Xbox One does not have one console-wide mod installer. For Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, start the game and choose Mods from its main menu, then follow the prompts to sign in or link your Xbox account to Bethesda.net. Other games need their own mod support and instructions.
Which Xbox One games support this method?
The documented in-game Bethesda Mods route applies to Fallout 4 and Skyrim Special Edition. It does not mean that every Xbox One game supports mods or that you can install arbitrary PC mod files on the console. Xbox Support’s page about enabling PC game mods covers PC games, not a general Xbox One console process: Xbox Support: Enable PC game mods.
If you are playing a different title, check that game’s official instructions for console mod support rather than looking for a universal Xbox installer.
Install mods through the game’s Mods menu
- Launch Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition and select Mods from the main menu.
- When prompted, sign in or link your Xbox account to Bethesda.net. Bethesda’s account-linking instructions explain that, once linked, you can add and remove mods through the in-game library: Bethesda Support: Link an Xbox account to Bethesda.net for Mods.
- In Fallout 4, browse or search for mods, then download them in the game. Bethesda describes the Xbox One Mods feature in its Fallout 4 Xbox One announcement and Fallout 4 and Skyrim mods announcement.
- Check a mod’s availability and the game’s remaining mod storage as you build your loadout. Bethesda warns that if a mod is removed from Bethesda.net, console players may no longer be able to view or interact with it.
Xbox One mod storage limits
Bethesda Support reports the following game-specific limits for Xbox One. Its support page does not show a visible publication date, so confirm the current figures there if storage is a deciding factor.

If Fallout 4 will not load after using mods
If Fallout 4 is stuck loading or will not start after mods have been activated, Bethesda’s console troubleshooting guidance recommends clearing that game’s Reserved Space. This removes the title’s stored mods, so you may need to download and arrange them again. It is a recovery step for this loading or startup problem, not a routine way to manage mods: Bethesda Support: Fallout 4 console loading and startup troubleshooting.
