Choose the display case from the statue outward, not from a generic “Zelda case” label. Measure the complete piece on its base—including weapons, capes, wings, hair, scenery, horses and LED controls—then select a case by usable internal dimensions and add clearance so nothing touches the lid or walls.
For many First 4 Figures Zelda pieces, a case with roughly 13–14 inches of usable internal height is a sensible starting point for a 12-inch statue, but the exact base and pose determine the final fit. A 9.5-inch figure and a 12-inch statue do not belong in the same-size enclosure.

Start with the statue’s real envelope
A display case must contain the statue’s maximum envelope, not just the height printed in a product title. A manufacturer may measure to the top of a head while the base, weapon, cape or scenery extends much farther sideways or forward. Some datasheets also omit accessory overhangs.
Set the statue on the exact base supplied with it before measuring. Include every permanent part that will remain attached in the case. If a sword, bow, wing, horse tack, hair strand or decorative effect can be removed, measure both configurations and design for the larger one if you intend to display it attached.

These figures are useful planning anchors, not universal case sizes. The 12-inch entry can require substantially more room than the 9.5-inch entry once clearance and an irregular base are included.
Measure your statue in six dimensions
- Assemble the display version. Attach the base, weapons, cape, wings, scenery and any other parts you will leave installed.
- Find maximum height. Measure from the bottom of the base to the highest point, including a raised weapon, hair tip or effect piece.
- Find maximum width. Measure the widest left-to-right span. A shield, outstretched arm, wing or weapon often determines this rather than the torso.
- Find maximum depth. Measure front-to-back, including a rear cape, tail, rockwork or control box.
- Record base dimensions separately. A broad or irregular base affects shelf support and may prevent the statue from being centered even when the overall case dimensions look adequate.
- Photograph the piece from several angles. Photos help a case maker identify overhangs that a single tape-measure reading can miss.
Measure to the furthest solid point, not to an approximate centerline. If a part is flexible or can be posed in more than one position, use the position that creates the largest envelope. Keep the measurements with the model number and edition; similarly named Zelda releases can have different bases and proportions.
Add clearance before choosing a case
The statue should not touch acrylic, glass, the lid or the rear panel. Contact can chip paint during installation, transfer pressure to a fragile accessory and make cleaning impossible. Clearance also gives you a safe path to lift the statue out.
Normal tabletop clearance
Wetop Acrylic’s sizing guidance recommends 10–15 mm of clearance on each side and at least 20 mm above the highest point. Those are internal clearances, measured between the statue and the case panels. Add the case’s base, lid and panel thickness separately when converting the required internal envelope into an advertised external size.
Clearance for complex poses
S-K Ltd recommends 30–50 mm of internal height clearance and 40–60 mm of total horizontal clearance for complex pieces. This is more conservative than the minimum spacing for a compact, static figure and is appropriate when the pose includes extended weapons, wings, a horse or tall scenery.

As a practical estimate, a statue listed at 12 inches tall often needs about 13–14 inches of usable internal height. Treat that as a planning figure derived from the listed dimensions and clearance guidance, not a fit guarantee.
Will a 300 mm acrylic case fit a 12-inch Zelda statue?
Not automatically. A 12-inch statue is approximately 305 mm tall before any clearance is added, so a case advertised as 300 mm tall cannot provide 300 mm of internal vertical space and cannot accommodate that statue upright. Even a nominally taller case may lose usable height to its bottom panel, top, lid and any raised floor.

Check whether the seller’s dimensions are internal or external. If the dimensions are external, subtract the base, lid and panel thickness before comparing them with your measured statue. A 300 mm external cube can have materially less than 300 mm of usable height. If the dimensions are internal, compare that number with the statue’s complete height plus your chosen top clearance.
Width and depth must pass the same test. A 12-inch Zelda statue with a 6.8-inch listed width and depth still needs room for side clearance, a wider base or a weapon that projects beyond the body. Never approve a case using height alone.
Choose the case material: acrylic or glass

Acrylic is the practical default for most tabletop collectors. Glass becomes more attractive when the case spans a large cabinet, remains in one location and has adequate structural support. Neither material fixes a sizing error; usable internal dimensions and safe support come first.

Specify UV protection and control the environment
Painted PVC and resin can fade or discolor with prolonged light exposure. A case near a window or under bright display lighting should use UV-filtering acrylic or glass. The National Park Service identifies UV-filtering glazing as an exhibit option and recommends closed cases to reduce light exposure.

A stated blocking or transmission figure gives you something to compare; an unqualified marketing phrase does not. UV glazing reduces one risk but does not make a home display a complete conservation environment.
- Keep the case out of direct sun, even when the panels have UV filtering.
- Keep it away from radiators, heating vents and other heat sources.
- Use curtains or blinds to reduce the total light dose in a bright room.
- Choose a closed case when dust exposure is a concern.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s permanent-case guidance treats cleanability, dust control, lighting, airtightness and approved materials as conservation-performance considerations. A household case will not necessarily meet museum standards, but those criteria explain why panel fit, seals and access matter beyond appearance.
Control dust with the right access design
A fitted lid, overlapping panels or a gasket can slow dust entry. No home display case is perfectly maintenance-free, and a tight seal can make access slower, so balance protection against how often you need to handle the statue.
Choose an access method
- Lift-off lid: Simple and inexpensive, but it needs enough overhead room to remove the lid without striking a light fixture or shelf above.
- Front-opening door: Convenient for a cabinet display and useful when the case is positioned under a low shelf; hinges and door swing require side clearance.
- Sliding panels: Save swing space but may reduce the opening width, making a broad base or outstretched weapon difficult to remove.
- Removable front or side panel: Helpful for large statues, provided the panel can be supported safely while cleaning.
Test the removal path before ordering. If the statue must be tilted, rotate an outline matching its largest dimensions through the planned opening. A case that fits the statue in place can still fail when you need to take it out.

Plan lighting without adding heat or trapped wiring
The National Park Service specification says, “Directional LED lighting is preferred for exhibit cases,” and calls for LED lighting inside the artifact chamber to give off no heat. Use that as a design principle: light the statue with low-heat, directional LEDs rather than placing a hot lamp inside a closed acrylic enclosure.
Some Zelda collectibles already contain their own electronics. Nintendo’s Hylian Shield Collector’s Edition listing describes bright LEDs beneath the stand’s gold rivet details. An aftermarket case should not block that effect or trap its switch, battery compartment or USB lead.
Lighting checklist
- Leave a reachable route to switches, batteries and USB connectors.
- Hide or route cables so they do not press against the statue or prevent the lid from seating.
- Keep power supplies outside the enclosed artifact chamber when possible.
- Check the case temperature after the lights have run for several hours.
- Use directional placement to avoid glare on the front panel and harsh reflections in photographs.
If the statue already has built-in LEDs, treat the case lighting as optional fill rather than automatically adding a second light source.

When a standard cube is enough
Choose an off-the-shelf cube when the statue is compact, static, centered on a regular base and comfortably below the case’s internal limits. Standard sizes are easier to replace and usually cost less than fabrication. Confirm every internal dimension and the opening size before purchase.

When custom fabrication is worth it
Order a made-to-measure case when the piece has a wide base, an extended weapon, wings, a horse, unusually tall scenery or built-in lighting. Custom work is also useful when a shelf, wall niche or cabinet opening imposes an unusual outer limit. Design the internal envelope first, then ask the fabricator to account for panel thickness, hinges, seals, base construction and cable routing.
Information to send with a custom quote
- Maximum assembled height, width and depth.
- Base dimensions and a photo of the underside if the base has feet or a cable exit.
- Photographs from front, rear and both sides.
- The required access direction and the minimum opening size.
- Shelf, cabinet or wall constraints, including the maximum external dimensions.
- Whether the case needs UV filtering, a lock, shelves or lighting.
- The location of switches, batteries and USB leads on the statue or base.
Compare cases on more than price
The least expensive case is a poor value if the statue cannot be installed without scraping, the panels scratch immediately or a replacement part is unavailable. Use this checklist when comparing listings or quotes:
- Usable internal height, width and depth: Are the figures internal or external?
- Clearance: Does the case leave space above, beside and behind the largest protrusion?
- Opening: Can the complete statue and base pass through without tilting into the lid?
- Material: Is acrylic’s lower weight preferable, or is a fixed glass cabinet better supported?
- UV specification: Is a blocking or transmission figure provided?
- Dust control: Does the lid overlap, gasket or lock securely?
- Base stability: Will the floor support the statue without flexing or sliding?
- Lighting: Are LEDs low heat, directional and serviceable?
- Scratch resistance and cleaning: Does the maker specify a safe non-abrasive method?
- Delivered cost: Include shipping, hardware, replacement panels and any custom fabrication fees.
Install the statue safely
- Prepare the location. Verify that the shelf or cabinet can support the combined weight of the case and statue, and that the case will not sit in direct sun or near a heat source.
- Clean before assembly. Remove dust from the statue, base and panels using the manufacturer’s approved method. Avoid abrasive cloths on acrylic.
- Assemble the empty case. Check that panels are fully seated and that the lid, door or gasket closes evenly.
- Plan cable routing. Feed LED wires through the intended opening before the statue blocks access.
- Place the base first. Center it using the internal measurements, not the outside of the case.
- Lower or slide in the statue slowly. Use two people for a large or fragile piece and watch the highest and widest protrusions.
- Verify clearances. Look from above and from both sides to confirm that no part touches a panel.
- Close and test. Run any lighting, confirm that switches and cables remain reachable, and check that the case does not rock.
Maintenance and common problems
Dust appears quickly
Check the lid overlap, door gasket and cable openings. Move the case away from fans, vents and frequently opened windows. Dust the exterior with the maker’s recommended non-abrasive method; repeated rubbing with a dry cloth can create static on acrylic and attract more particles.

Stop using paper towels, abrasive cleaners and household scouring products. Follow the case maker’s acrylic-cleaning instructions and use a clean, suitable cloth. Replace a badly damaged panel rather than polishing aggressively around the statue.
The statue barely fits
Do not force the lid or rotate a weapon against a wall. Re-measure the assembled piece, including the base and protrusions, then compare those numbers with the case’s verified internal dimensions. If the clearance is below the recommended range, exchange the case or order a larger custom enclosure.
LEDs create glare or warmth
Redirect the light, reduce its intensity or move the source outside the artifact chamber. Check for heat after extended operation and keep power supplies ventilated. A built-in statue light should not be supplemented with a hot lamp simply to brighten the case.
A quick decision path
- If the statue is under 10 inches, compact and static, start with a standard acrylic case whose internal dimensions exceed the measured envelope plus clearance.
- If it is around 12 inches tall, plan for approximately 13–14 inches of usable internal height and verify width, depth and opening dimensions independently.
- If it has wings, a horse, an extended weapon, broad scenery or integrated electronics, favor generous clearance or a custom case.
- If the case will sit near a window or strong lighting, specify measurable UV filtering and use a closed enclosure.
- If the display is permanent and furniture-like, compare a supported glass cabinet; otherwise, acrylic is usually easier to handle and customize.
The correct Zelda display case is the smallest enclosure that safely contains the statue’s complete envelope with room to install, remove, clean and light it. Measure first, verify internal dimensions, and treat clearance, UV exposure, dust control and access as functional requirements rather than cosmetic extras.
