If you are undecided, redeem Standard first and purchase the digital Ultimate Edition Upgrade later.
Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The physical release is a Standard Edition box with a digital download code, not a game disc. Current official storefronts do not list a PC edition.

These are official US list prices announced by Take-Two Interactive Software in 2026. Regional storefront prices, taxes and currency conversions can differ. Ultimate is not a different or expanded base game campaign; it is the Standard game bundled with an additional content upgrade.

Platforms and launch timing
Rockstar Games Customer Support currently lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as the supported platforms and says pre-orders are available for both. Take-Two announced the launch date as November 19, 2026, and the official PlayStation and Xbox storefronts show the same date.

No PC edition appears in the current official launch materials. That means you should not buy a console code expecting to activate it on a computer, and you should not treat speculation about a later PC release as part of the edition decision. The Standard and Ultimate products described here are console products for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
What the Standard Edition includes
Standard includes the complete base Grand Theft Auto VI game. There is no gameplay chapter or core mode removed to make the lower-priced edition. The principal difference from Ultimate is the absence of the Ultimate Edition Upgrade.
Vintage Vice City Pack
Rockstar says the Vintage Vice City Pack is included with pre-orders and purchases made before November 20, 2026. The pack contains the ’55 Vapid Stanier Sedan and Garage, additional outfits and hairstyles, and an exclusive weapon pattern. It is a time-limited purchase incentive, not a permanent difference between Standard and Ultimate.
Digital pre-order extras
Digital pre-orders include one month of GTA+ for eligible accounts. The subscription benefit has redemption and renewal rules that vary by platform; it does not turn Standard into Ultimate and is not a permanent entitlement to GTA+.
What the Ultimate Edition adds
Ultimate contains the Standard base game plus the Ultimate Edition Upgrade. Rockstar describes the bonuses as content threaded through Jason and Lucia’s story, with new items uncovered behind each chapter. The PlayStation listing characterizes the upgrade as a premium collection of vehicles, weapons, apparel and story action.

The value of these additions is subjective. They are meaningful if you want to collect named vehicles, experiment with extra customization or see the story-linked content as it becomes available. They are not necessary to access the complete base game, so paying for Ultimate solely because it sounds like a higher game tier is unnecessary.

How much does Ultimate really cost?
At US list prices, Ultimate costs US$20 more than Standard: US$99.99 versus US$79.99. That premium buys the Ultimate Edition Upgrade and its listed content. It does not include a separate physical Ultimate package, and it does not permanently include GTA+.
Regional pricing can change the actual gap. Check the final total in your own PlayStation or Microsoft storefront, including local taxes and currency conversion, before assuming the US$20 difference applies in your country.
Pre-order bonuses and the GTA+ month
Vintage Vice City deadline
The Vintage Vice City Pack applies to pre-orders and purchases made before November 20, 2026. If you buy after that cutoff, do not assume the pack is still included merely because the product page uses the same edition name.
PlayStation GTA+ terms
PlayStation terms say the free month must be redeemed by March 31, 2027. It then auto-renews monthly at the regular price until canceled, and the offer is limited to one redemption per account. If you do not want a recurring charge, cancel before the trial month ends.
Xbox GTA+ terms
Xbox terms say the free month must be redeemed within 180 days of placing the pre-order and is limited to one redemption per platform account. The exact local terms shown at checkout control your offer.
Because the redemption windows differ, save the purchase confirmation and read the platform-specific terms rather than treating the GTA+ month as an unconditional, permanent free subscription. The promotion is attached to eligible digital pre-orders; it is not an edition-exclusive gameplay feature.

Physical or digital: what you are actually buying
Physical Standard Edition
The physical GTA VI release is a Standard Edition box containing a digital download code. Rockstar explicitly says no disc is included. The package can still be useful as a gift or collectible retail box, but you will redeem the code through the platform account and download the game.
Physical copies are expected at retailers beginning November 12, 2026, ahead of the November 19 launch to support preloading. Codes redeemed before launch begin preloading at local midnight on November 12. The exact download time and available storage space are controlled by your console and storefront; no official storage figure is stated in the supplied launch materials.
Digital Edition
A digital purchase delivers the license directly to the PlayStation or Xbox account used at checkout. It is the straightforward choice if you want account delivery, do not need a box, or want the platform’s digital preload process. Digital pre-order benefits, including the GTA+ month, are governed by the account and platform terms.

Rockstar does not offer a physical Ultimate Edition package. A retailer box labeled as physical GTA VI is the Standard Edition code-in-box release. You can redeem that code and then buy the digital Ultimate Edition Upgrade through the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store, but the box itself does not become a physical Ultimate product.
Can you upgrade Standard later?
Yes. After redeeming the Standard code, you can purchase the digital Ultimate Edition Upgrade through the relevant PlayStation or Microsoft store. This is the official safety valve for uncertain buyers.
- Buy Standard from a retailer or storefront that matches your platform and account region.
- Redeem the code, or complete the digital purchase, on the account that will play the game.
- Confirm that the base game appears in your console library.
- Open the same platform store and locate the Ultimate Edition Upgrade.
- Review the displayed price and account eligibility, then purchase the upgrade if you want the bonus content.
- Install any additional content the console lists after the upgrade is applied.
The later-upgrade route remains digital for the upgrade. It does not create a physical Ultimate Edition or change the Standard box you purchased. Before buying, verify that the store is offering an upgrade for your redeemed edition rather than charging you for the full Ultimate Edition again.

Region, code and account checks
Code redemption follows the region associated with your platform account. Rockstar recommends buying from a retailer in the same country as that account to avoid activation problems.

PlayStation
PlayStation codes are grouped into regional territories. A code purchased for one territory may fail on an account registered in another, even when the console hardware is identical. Check the territory printed on the listing or code card before paying.
Xbox
Rockstar’s support article says Xbox codes are not region-locked. Account, storefront and local consumer-law rules can still affect availability, currency and add-on redemption, so confirm the product details shown for your account.
Japan expiration rule
Japan product codes expire 170 days after issuance because of regional regulations. If you are buying or gifting a Japanese code, confirm its issue date and redeem it promptly; do not assume an unused code remains valid indefinitely.
Buying from another country
A lower foreign price is not automatically a saving. For PlayStation, the territory mismatch can prevent activation. For Xbox, the code may not be region-locked, but the account’s store, currency and local terms can still affect what you receive. The safest choice is a code sold for the same country as the account that will redeem it.

Choose Standard when…
- You want the complete base game at the lowest official US price.
- You are indifferent to the named Ultimate vehicles, weapons, shops, apparel and story-linked extras.
- You prefer a retail box, while understanding that it contains a download code rather than a disc.
- You are unsure and want the option to decide after playing the base game.
Choose Ultimate when…
- You already know you want the ’95 Grotti Cheetah, additional safehouse vehicles, special weapons or the extra businesses and customization.
- You enjoy collecting optional items and want the Ultimate bonuses integrated into Jason and Lucia’s story progression.
- You would otherwise buy the upgrade later and prefer to pay for the bundle up front.
Buy Standard and upgrade later when…
You cannot tell whether the bonus content is worth US$20. This approach gives you the full game now and preserves the officially supported digital upgrade path after code redemption. It is particularly useful for a gift recipient whose platform account or content preferences you do not know.

A safe buying checklist
- Confirm the console. The launch products are for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Do not buy a console code for a PC expectation.
- Check the edition name. Standard is US$79.99 and Ultimate is US$99.99 in the United States before taxes; verify your regional total.
- Inspect the format. Physical means a Standard box with a download code and no disc. Ultimate is digital only, either as a full digital purchase or a later upgrade.
- Match the region. Buy from the same country as the platform account whenever possible, especially for PlayStation.
- Check bonus eligibility. Confirm the Vintage Vice City cutoff and read the GTA+ redemption deadline shown by your platform.
- Prevent unwanted renewal. If you redeem the free GTA+ month, set a reminder to cancel before the paid monthly renewal unless you intend to continue.
- Keep proof of purchase. Save the receipt, code details and account used for redemption until the game and all eligible bonuses appear.
Common mistakes and how to fix them
Expecting a disc in the box
Do not open the package expecting installation from optical media. The physical release is a code card or code insert for a digital download. Redeem it on the correct console account and make sure the account has enough storage and an internet connection for the download.
Buying a supposed physical Ultimate Edition
A physical Ultimate Edition is not available. If a listing implies otherwise, verify whether it is actually a Standard code-in-box product bundled with a separate digital upgrade offer. The official upgrade is purchased through the platform store after Standard redemption.
Redeeming on the wrong account
Codes are tied to the account that redeems them. If a family member will play on a different account, check your console’s sharing rules before redemption; moving a redeemed license later may not be possible.
Code rejected for region
For PlayStation, compare the code territory with the account’s country or region. Contact the retailer before attempting repeated redemptions. For any platform, retain the receipt and use the account region shown at checkout as the reference.
GTA+ starts charging unexpectedly
The promotional month can auto-renew. On PlayStation, cancel before March 31, 2027 if you have not redeemed it by then, and on Xbox redeem within 180 days of the pre-order or the offer can lapse. After redemption, manage the subscription through the platform account and cancel before the next billing date if you do not want recurring charges.
Ultimate content is not visible immediately
First confirm that the base game and upgrade were bought or redeemed on the same platform account. Restart the console, check the game’s add-on or manage-content screen, and allow any entitlement download to finish. If the store still shows only the Standard license, contact platform support with the receipt rather than buying the full game again.
Bottom line
Standard is the sensible default: it delivers the complete GTA VI experience for US$79.99. Ultimate costs US$99.99 and makes sense only when its specific bonus vehicles, weapons, apparel, shops, customization and story-linked content matter to you. Physical buyers receive a Standard download code, not a disc; uncertain buyers can redeem Standard and add the digital Ultimate Upgrade later. Match the code to your account region and treat the GTA+ month as a cancelable promotion, not as a permanent edition benefit.
