Choose a PC that meets Roberts Space Industries’ published minimums: a quad-core CPU with AVX, AVX2, and FMA3; a DirectX 11.1 graphics card with at least 4 GB of graphics memory; 16 GB or more of RAM; and a 150 GB or larger SSD. RSI also lists Windows 10 (64-bit) or Windows 11. These are minimum requirements—not a guarantee of performance or a recommendation for a particular resolution or frame rate.
Start with RSI’s published minimum requirements
RSI’s minimum system requirements, dated December 17, 2025, are the best baseline for checking a PC. The page says the listed minimums are strongly recommended for effectively installing, loading, and playing the games.

How to assess the CPU
Use RSI’s processor examples as architecture landmarks, not as a list of recommended current CPUs. The requirement is a quad-core CPU with AVX, AVX2, and FMA3; a newer-sounding product name or a high core count does not establish that every required instruction set is supported. Look up the exact processor model in its manufacturer specifications and verify all three features.

The official GPU floor is a DirectX 11.1 card with 4 GB of graphics memory. That baseline does not identify a modern card, graphics preset, resolution, or expected frame rate. Do not treat a card that clears the minimum as a promise of smooth play at a particular quality setting.

How much RAM and SSD space to plan for
RSI lists 16 GB or more of RAM and a 150 GB or larger SSD. Its page also recommends an NTFS-formatted drive with at least 100 GB available for the RSI Launcher and Star Citizen installation, plus at least 10 GB of additional SSD space for the pagefile. Keep those available-space figures distinct from the published SSD capacity minimum when checking a drive.
For a PC with a smaller SSD, check its actual free space and whether it can be upgraded. If you are considering a RAM or SSD upgrade, verify that the motherboard, available slots, form factor, and system configuration support the part before buying.

Check the operating system and support status
RSI lists Windows 10 (64-bit) or Windows 11 and says Linux and macOS are not currently supported. Its requirements page may change while the game remains in development, so consult the official listing again when making a purchase or upgrade decision.
Squadron 42 is not currently available to download. RSI’s February 4, 2026 availability article says eligible accounts will be able to download it after development is complete, the game has been tested, and it has been released. The article does not state a release date.

Compare candidate PCs without guessing at performance
For each system, check the exact CPU, graphics card, RAM, SSD, and Windows version against the published minimums. If multiple PCs meet them, choosing between those systems for higher performance requires separate, dated evidence tied to the resolution and frame-rate target you care about. RSI’s cited requirements do not provide those targets or validate a complete PC configuration.

- Reject or investigate a CPU listing that omits its exact model or instruction-set support.
- Confirm GPU graphics memory and DirectX support from the card’s specifications rather than relying on a generic “gaming PC” label.
- Check whether memory and storage are upgradeable if the system falls short.
- Do not infer a release date or final-release performance from the minimum requirements.
