First check the platform listed for the individual game on Humble: a Choice title is not necessarily a Steam key. If it is a Steam key, redeem it in Steam, then install the game from your Steam library on the Deck. If it uses another storefront or launcher, the route is different, and adding an already-installed app to Steam does not guarantee it will work on SteamOS.
Check how the game is provided
Open the game’s page in your Humble account and follow its current platform and claim instructions. Check whether it offers a Steam key or uses another storefront or launcher before trying to install it. The available platform and redemption method can vary by title; do not assume every Humble Choice game is a Steam key.

Redeem a Steam key and install the game
Activate the key in Steam
- Open the Steam client on a computer or in the Deck’s Desktop Mode.
- Choose + Add a Game, then Activate a Product on Steam….
- Follow the prompts and enter the key when asked. Valve documents this route in its Retail CD Keys instructions.
Install from the Deck library
After activation, the game appears in your Steam library. On the Deck, open the library, select the game, and choose the install option. Valve’s Steam Deck FAQ explains that installed games can generally be played offline unless the game itself requires an internet connection.

Check whether the game works well on Steam Deck
Look up the individual game in your Steam library and check its current Deck compatibility label. Valve uses four categories: Verified, Playable, Unsupported, and Unknown. These ratings and the review process can change; consult Valve’s Deck Verified page for the current criteria and status.
A label is a useful starting point, not a promise that every setup or update will behave identically. Playable titles may need adjustments, while Unknown means a rating has not been established. If you encounter a problem with a Steam library game, Valve’s Steam Deck Software Info & Troubleshooting Guide describes how to select the game, open Properties > Compatibility, and force a Steam Play compatibility tool. In that troubleshooting context, Valve recommends trying the latest Proton version.

For a title supplied through another launcher, first follow that title’s instructions to install the application on the Deck. Valve says, “Yes, you can run non-Steam games through Proton,” in the Steam Deck FAQ. That confirms general capability, not that a particular installer, launcher, or game will work.

- Open the desktop Steam client and choose Add a Game > Add a Non-Steam Game.
- Select the application that is already installed, then add it to Steam.
This creates a Steam shortcut; it does not install the app or guarantee it will run under SteamOS. Valve’s Desktop FAQ also notes that applications can be installed through Discover Software Center and that a physical keyboard and mouse may be needed in some situations.

What to try if a game will not launch
- Confirm the platform: check the Humble page again to make sure you claimed the right version and followed its instructions.
- For a Steam library game: check its current Deck rating and use the per-game compatibility settings in Properties > Compatibility if appropriate. Valve’s guide recommends the latest Proton version for the troubleshooting scenario it describes.
- For a non-Steam app: confirm the application is installed and that the shortcut points to it. A shortcut alone cannot resolve launcher or game compatibility issues.
- Account for online requirements: offline play is possible after installation only when the game does not require an internet connection.
