Start with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain if what you want is the closest mechanical follow-up to Metal Gear Solid: open mission spaces, reconnaissance, flexible equipment and the ability to improvise when a plan collapses. Choose Hitman: World of Assassination for disguises and replayable social stealth, Splinter Cell for tightly directed covert operations, Dishonored 2 for supernatural systems, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided for augmentations and dialogue-driven choices, Sniper Elite 5 for patient reconnaissance and distance, or Ghost of Tsushima for stealth inside a much broader historical action adventure.
If the most important part is Metal Gear’s own characters, continuity and survival-stealth identity, choose Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater. It is a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, not a spin-off that merely borrows the series’ ideas.

The fastest way to choose
“Stealth action” covers several very different experiences. Metal Gear Solid can mean open-ended infiltration, camouflage, gadgets, enemy awareness, cinematic espionage, close-quarters combat or simply the pleasure of recovering from a mistake. Decide which of those you want to preserve before looking at individual titles.

What “like Metal Gear Solid” can mean
Open-ended planning and recovery
In The Phantom Pain, missions take place in broad spaces where you can scout from a distance, mark threats, choose an approach and change tactics after detection. That combination is the closest match for players who remember Metal Gear as a toolkit rather than a single prescribed route. A failed stealth attempt does not automatically end the mission: you can relocate, suppress a threat, use equipment differently or complete the objective under pressure.
#1 Best Overall
- ERA: THE 1960'S BITTLE OF IDEOLOGIES: Przeżyj historię jako zimna wojna i zmiany krajobrazu geopolitycznego
- GAME:TRUST INSTINCT BATTLE: Outsmart enemies with camouflage, short circuit battle, stalking, interviewing, climbing, hunting and injury treatment
- SETTING: BATTLE OF REPADS JOUNGLES: Measure yourself with the environment where traps catch enemies and prey, threats law in the shadow, and noises alert predators
Identity-based stealth
Hitman approaches concealment through who you appear to be. A disguise can let you enter a restricted area, but suspicious behavior, restricted rooms and the target’s routines still matter. The challenge is reading a location, learning its social rules and arranging an opportunity. This differs from Metal Gear’s emphasis on line of sight, movement, noise, camouflage and exposure.
Disciplined covert operations
Splinter Cell is the better fit when you want authored missions and a deliberate pace. Its appeal is careful positioning, controlled movement and executing a plan cleanly, rather than wandering through a large sandbox looking for your own solution.
Systems, powers and alternate routes
Dishonored 2 and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided expand stealth beyond military infiltration. Dishonored gives you supernatural powers and vertical routes that can transform how you reach a target. Deus Ex combines concealment with augmentations, conversations and lethal or non-lethal decisions, making the character build and role-playing choice part of the stealth problem.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Reconnaissance and distance
Sniper Elite 5 concentrates on observation, range and suppressed shooting. It suits players who enjoy studying patrols, identifying objectives and solving a tactical problem from a carefully chosen position more than players seeking Metal Gear’s close-quarters theatrics.
Stealth as one tool in a larger adventure
Ghost of Tsushima places infiltration in a large historical action world. Exploration and direct sword combat remain important, so it is not a pure stealth replacement. Choose it when atmosphere, landscape and the ability to alternate between stealth and open fighting are as important as concealment.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain — the closest mechanical match
The Phantom Pain should be your default recommendation if the question is “What should I play after Metal Gear Solid V?” Its open mission spaces support reconnaissance before commitment: observe enemy positions, identify alarms and routes, decide whether to sneak, distract, extract or engage, then adapt when circumstances change.
Why it matches
- Flexible approach: objectives can be reached through different paths instead of one mandatory sequence.
- Tool-driven play: equipment changes the problem, allowing you to create distractions, neutralize threats, gather information or escape.
- Physical exposure: visibility, movement and enemy awareness remain central, preserving the feeling of being a vulnerable infiltrator.
- Recovery after mistakes: detection changes the situation without always ending it, rewarding improvisation rather than reloads.
It is not the best choice if your favorite Metal Gear moments were tightly scripted set pieces or a linear story campaign. Its structure gives you freedom at the cost of a less continuously directed mission flow.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsHitman: World of Assassination — choose disguises and replayable sandboxes
Choose Hitman: World of Assassination when you want stealth to revolve around deception, routines and identity. PlayStation describes it as a freeform sandbox stealth experience built around guile, player choice and mission replay value. Each location is designed to be revisited: learn a route, discover an opportunity, try a disguise, then return with a different plan.
Rank #2
- ERA: THE 1960'S BATTLE OF IDEOLOGIES: Relive history as the Cold War and geo-political landscape change
- GAMEPLAY: SURVIVAL BATTLE OF INSTINCTS: Outsmart enemies with camouflage, close-quarters combat, stalking, interrogating, climbing, hunting and treating injuries
- SETTING: THE JUNGLE BATTLE OF REPTILES: Pit yourself against an environment where traps catch enemies and prey, threats lurk in the shadows and noises alert predators
How its stealth differs from Metal Gear
A uniform is not universal permission. Your disguise determines which people accept you and which areas remain suspicious, while behavior can expose you even when your clothing is correct. The resulting tension is social rather than primarily physical. You are managing access, timing and appearances instead of relying mainly on camouflage and movement.
Hitman is the strongest choice for experimentation. If you enjoy testing how a location reacts to different identities and opportunities, its repeatable structure offers more deliberate variation than a one-pass infiltration mission. It is less suitable if you want military reconnaissance, squad support or a continuous battlefield campaign.
Splinter Cell — the disciplined alternative
Splinter Cell is for readers who prefer directed covert-operations missions over broad sandbox improvisation. The structure gives you a clearer authored route and asks you to execute with discipline: control exposure, move carefully and treat detection as a serious consequence.
Who should choose it
- Players who value a focused espionage brief over open-ended exploration.
- Players who enjoy repeating a section to improve execution rather than improvising through a prolonged alert.
- Players who want stealth to remain the central activity, not one option among many combat and traversal systems.
It will feel more constrained than The Phantom Pain. That constraint is the point: the game tests precision and concealment instead of asking you to invent a solution from a large inventory.
Dishonored 2 — supernatural stealth and vertical problem-solving
Dishonored 2 is the pick for players who want stealth levels to behave like interconnected systems. Supernatural powers open vertical routes and unusual approaches, while the environment provides opportunities that are not obvious from the main path.
What you gain
- Verticality: reaching a target from above or bypassing a guarded floor can be as important as hiding from patrols.
- Systemic interactions: powers, objects and enemy behavior can combine into solutions the designers do not state explicitly.
- Creative non-lethal play: you can pursue a low-casualty approach without limiting yourself to one corridor.
Its powers make it fundamentally different from Metal Gear’s grounded equipment. Choose it because you want that difference: stealth as creative traversal and experimentation, not because you expect a military simulation.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided — augmentations, dialogue and moral choice
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided suits players who want a stealth role-playing game. Missions contain multiple routes, and your augmentations influence which routes are practical. Conversations can open or close possibilities, while lethal and non-lethal choices change the way you solve problems.

- Do you want to spend resources and character upgrades on access, hacking, movement or concealment?
- Do you enjoy talking your way through a problem as much as sneaking past it?
- Are you comfortable with a slower pace in which exploration and dialogue can matter as much as immediate infiltration?
If the answer is yes, Deus Ex provides more role-playing authorship than a conventional stealth-action campaign. If you want the direct tactile rhythm of scouting, crawling and using field equipment, The Phantom Pain is the closer match.

Sniper Elite 5 — reconnaissance, distance and suppressed fire
Sniper Elite 5 is the specialist choice for observation and range. Broad tactical areas let you study a situation, select a firing position and use suppressed shooting to remove or bypass threats. The satisfaction comes from preparation and information: identifying objectives, understanding patrols and deciding when not to fire.
Where it fits in the comparison
Its stealth is less about slipping through every room and more about controlling sight lines and distance. It is a good choice when your ideal Metal Gear mission begins with binoculars and ends with a carefully timed shot. It is not the best substitute for close-quarters combat, disguise systems or elaborate social deception.
Ghost of Tsushima — stealth within a historical action world
Ghost of Tsushima offers stealth as one part of a larger historical action adventure. You can infiltrate camps and use surprise, but exploration, cinematic presentation and direct sword combat remain major pillars.
Choose it when you want a broad world and an atmospheric setting in which stealth can change the opening of an encounter. Do not choose it expecting every mission to enforce concealment or to provide the same gadget-focused improvisation as Metal Gear. Its flexibility comes from switching between play styles, not from making stealth the only valid solution.
Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater — the continuity choice
Choose Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater when the priority is Metal Gear’s own story, characters and survival-stealth identity. Konami’s description, reproduced by iTechGuides, states: “METAL GEAR SOLID Δ: SNAKE EATER is a remake of the 2004 game METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SNAKE EATER.” That makes it a direct route back into the series’ continuity rather than an unrelated alternative.
What makes it distinct
- Camouflage and survival: concealment is tied to the environment and survival conditions rather than only to an equipment menu.
- Close-quarters combat: grapples and deliberate takedowns remain part of the infiltration vocabulary.
- Directed campaign: the story and mission sequence are more authored than The Phantom Pain’s open-ended structure.
- Series context: its characters and themes matter if you want to understand Metal Gear’s larger timeline.
PlayStation describes the game as combining stealth with survival in an alternate Cold War and allowing players to use camouflage or close-quarters combat. That combination makes it the right recommendation for continuity and atmosphere, but not necessarily for the broadest sandbox freedom.

- Do not equate “stealth” with “Metal Gear.” Hitman’s social deception, Sniper Elite’s long-range reconnaissance and Dishonored’s powers produce very different decisions.
- Separate structure from atmosphere. A game can look like an espionage thriller while offering a linear challenge, or provide open systems without the same cinematic story emphasis.
- Decide how you feel about combat. Ghost of Tsushima makes direct combat a major pillar; Splinter Cell treats exposure more strictly; The Phantom Pain lets you improvise between stealth and force.
- Decide whether replay is a feature. Hitman is designed for repeated experimentation in the same spaces, while a directed campaign may be better if you want a clearly paced story.
- Check the platform before purchasing. Especially for Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, platform, edition and regional availability should be confirmed at the time of purchase.
The practical verdict
For one recommendation, pick Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain: it is the closest overall mechanical match for open-ended infiltration, scouting, adaptable tools and improvisation. Pick Hitman: World of Assassination if disguises and replayable social stealth matter more than military camouflage. Pick Splinter Cell for disciplined, directed espionage; Dishonored 2 or Deus Ex: Mankind Divided for powers or augmentations; Sniper Elite 5 for reconnaissance and suppressed shooting; and Ghost of Tsushima for stealth woven into a larger historical adventure. For the series’ own continuity, characters and survival-stealth formula, choose Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater.
