The right choice is a dual-wireless headset: low-latency 2.4 GHz through a USB dongle or base station for games, plus Bluetooth for a phone, music and calls. If you need game audio and a phone stream at the same time, confirm that the headset supports simultaneous 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth rather than merely offering both modes. A 3.5 mm or USB wired fallback is also valuable when the battery is empty or a device does not support the dongle.
Start by checking the exact console and PC compatibility, then compare connection behavior, music tuning, microphone controls, comfort and battery figures under the same conditions. A headset that is excellent for competitive latency may still be tiring, overly bass-heavy or awkward for music unless its EQ and fit suit your listening.

What a gaming-and-music headset must do
Gaming and music place different demands on a headset. Games benefit from a fast, stable link, accurate positional cues and easily accessible chat controls. Music benefits from a balanced stereo presentation, comfortable long-session wear and an EQ that does not force every recording into a gaming-oriented sound.
Dual wireless solves the device problem. The 2.4 GHz connection normally runs through a USB dongle or a base station and is intended to minimize delay. Bluetooth is convenient for phones, tablets and general music listening. Some models mix both connections, allowing a game to remain audible while a phone call or stream is active. Others make you switch modes, so read the manual for the exact behavior.

Do not assume that a headset advertised as “wireless” works with every console. Xbox, PlayStation, PC, Switch and mobile support can differ by model, transmitter and regional SKU. Verify the manufacturer’s compatibility list for the exact version before buying.
Step 1: Map your devices before comparing models
PC and Mac
Check whether the USB dongle is supported by your operating system and whether the headset’s control application is available for it. Bluetooth can handle music and calls, but 2.4 GHz is usually the better choice for games. If your computer has crowded USB ports or sits under a desk, a short extension cable can help position the dongle in clear air.
PlayStation
Confirm that the console accepts the headset’s USB transmitter and that the package includes the PlayStation-compatible SKU. Console firmware, USB audio rules and chat support can vary. A 3.5 mm connection through the controller is a useful backup, but it may change microphone and volume behavior.
Xbox
Xbox compatibility is particularly model-specific. Some headsets use Xbox Wireless, some include a dedicated Xbox USB transmitter, and some support only Bluetooth for phones while using a separate console method. The Xbox Wireless Headset is designed around Xbox and also supports Bluetooth 5.3 for a phone or PC, including simultaneous console-and-phone pairing.
Switch and mobile
For Switch, look for an explicit Switch listing rather than assuming any USB-C or USB-A dongle will work in handheld and docked modes. Mobile devices generally work over Bluetooth; a USB-C dongle may require an adapter and can obstruct charging. A wired 3.5 mm option avoids those issues when the device has a headphone jack.
Step 2: Choose the wireless modes you actually need
Low-latency 2.4 GHz for games
A dedicated 2.4 GHz link is the normal choice for rhythm games, shooters and any title where a noticeable delay is distracting. Ask three questions: Is the dongle included? Does it support your console? Can the headset stay connected to Bluetooth at the same time?

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Bluetooth for phones and music
Bluetooth is practical for a phone, laptop or tablet and is usually the easiest way to listen away from your gaming system. Codec support is not consistent across models or regions, so do not infer a particular codec from the Bluetooth version alone. For this category, comfort, tuning and reliable controls often matter more than a codec label.
Simultaneous connections
Simultaneous playback is the feature that most clearly separates a general wireless headset from a dual-purpose model. It lets the 2.4 GHz dongle carry game audio while Bluetooth handles a call, notification or music stream. The mix controls may be on the headset, in software or on the phone. Test whether one source ducks the other, whether the microphone switches to Bluetooth during calls and whether console chat remains available.
Step 3: Judge music sound without mistaking gaming features for fidelity
There is no authoritative published statistic that ranks the music fidelity of the shortlisted models, and there is no independent listening test supporting a definitive winner. Treat “best sound” as a fit-and-tuning decision rather than a laboratory ranking.
Look for a usable stereo profile
A balanced stereo setting is the safest starting point for albums, podcasts and acoustic recordings. Heavy bass can make explosions entertaining but obscure bass lines or vocals. Listen for clear midrange speech, controlled low end and treble that remains comfortable at the volume you actually use.
Use EQ and music presets
App-based EQ lets one headset serve different jobs. Razer’s guidance for the Kraken V4 separates game, movie and music EQ recommendations, illustrating why a music preset can be preferable to leaving a spatial gaming mode enabled. Save a stereo music profile and switch to spatial processing only when a particular game benefits from it.
Be cautious with spatial audio
Virtual surround and spatial modes are designed mainly for positional cues. They can widen a game but may add processing, change vocals or make a stereo recording sound unnatural. Keep a direct stereo mode available for music and compare at matched volume.

Step 4: Compare microphone and chat controls
For multiplayer, inspect the microphone design and the controls you can reach without opening software.
- Microphone type: A boom is generally easier for consistent chat. JBL specifies a cardioid boom microphone on the Quantum 950.
- Mute behavior: Flip-to-mute, a physical button and an on-screen indicator are easier to trust than a software-only toggle.
- Sidetone: Mic monitoring prevents you from shouting, especially with closed ear cushions.
- Game/chat balance: A dedicated mix control is faster than changing two independent volumes. Xbox provides game/chat balance and mute controls.
- Detachable versus retractable: Detachable microphones are easier to remove for music; retractable designs are harder to lose but can add moving parts.
Check whether Bluetooth calls change the microphone source. Some headsets use a different Bluetooth hands-free profile during a call, which can reduce music quality while the call is active.
Step 5: Treat comfort and weight as core specifications
Weight is not the only comfort factor, but the difference can be substantial. JBL lists the Quantum 950 at 398 g, while ASUS lists the ROG Delta II at 318 g. Clamp force, pad depth, headband pressure, heat retention and glasses clearance can matter more than a specification-sheet difference.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Choose breathable fabric or replaceable cushions if you play in a warm room.
- Check that the ear cups fully surround your ears and do not press on glasses arms.
- Look for a headband that spreads pressure instead of concentrating it at the crown.
- Consider whether you will wear the headset for a three-hour game, a full workday or short sessions; the ideal clamp differs.
If a retailer permits returns, wear the headset for at least an hour before deciding. Initial softness does not reveal heat buildup or pressure at the temples.
Step 6: Compare battery claims under matching conditions
Battery numbers are “up to” claims. Connection mode, ANC, lighting, haptics, volume and firmware can all reduce runtime. Compare figures only when the modes and features match.
| Headset | Published battery figure | Conditions and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| HyperX Cloud Alpha 2 Wireless | Up to 250 hours; up to 125 hours with simultaneous connections | HyperX/HP figures for 2.4 GHz mode and for simultaneous 2.4 GHz plus Bluetooth; both are maximum claims. |
| JBL Quantum 950 | Up to 30 hours Bluetooth-only music; up to 25 hours 2.4 GHz-only music | JBL specification-sheet figures for music playback in the stated single-connection modes. |
| ASUS ROG Delta II | Up to 110 hours | ASUS maximum claim; the page’s headline figure should not be treated as simultaneous-mode runtime. |
| Razer Kraken V4 | Up to 50 hours | Razer maximum under its stated conditions; lighting and other features can change actual runtime. |
| Xbox Wireless Headset | Up to 20 hours | Xbox maximum claim; actual life varies with use and settings. |
A full-day requirement usually means more than the headline number. If you need game audio and Bluetooth together, use the simultaneous figure where one is provided. Keep the charging cable accessible, and check whether the headset can play while charging.

Model-specific buying notes
HyperX Cloud Alpha 2 Wireless
This is the battery-first option. Its published figures distinguish 2.4 GHz-only use from simultaneous 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth, which is exactly the distinction to look for when a “full day” includes phone audio. The included 3.5 mm capability gives you a recovery path if the battery is empty or a device does not accept the transmitter. Confirm the exact platform support before purchase.

The Quantum 950 combines a low-latency 2.4 GHz dongle, Bluetooth 5.3, wired operation, ANC, spatial sound and a base station. Its 50 mm dynamic drivers and 398 g weight should be considered together: the feature set is extensive, but the headset is comparatively heavy. JBL also states that the microphone, cable, ear cushions and hammock can be replaced by the user, which may improve long-term serviceability.
ASUS ROG Delta II
The ROG Delta II is the broadest tri-mode choice in this shortlist. ROG SpeedNova 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth and 3.5 mm wired operation cover PC, Mac, PlayStation, Switch, Xbox and mobile according to ASUS’s product information. Its listed 318 g weight is lower than the JBL figure, but fit and clamp still determine comfort. Treat the up-to-110-hour claim as a maximum rather than a simultaneous-mode guarantee.
Razer Kraken V4
The Kraken V4 targets users who want 2.4 GHz HyperSpeed and Bluetooth 5.3 with simultaneous audio. Its published battery claim is up to 50 hours under stated conditions. The separate game, movie and music EQ guidance is useful if the headset will spend as much time on albums as on games; save a neutral or music-oriented profile instead of leaving spatial processing on for everything.
Xbox Wireless Headset
Xbox owners get the clearest platform alignment here. Xbox states that the headset can connect to a console and a phone simultaneously, with Bluetooth 5.3 for mobile or PC music and chat, and up to 20 hours of battery life. Game/chat balance and mute controls are built around console use. If you mainly play on PlayStation or Switch, select a model with explicit support for those systems instead.

- Update first: Charge the headset and install any required firmware or control application before pairing.
- Connect the 2.4 GHz path: Insert the USB dongle or connect the base station to the console or computer. Select the headset as the system’s output and chat device.
- Pair Bluetooth: Put the headset in Bluetooth pairing mode, select it on the phone and confirm that media and call permissions are enabled.
- Test simultaneous audio: Start a game, play a short phone stream and adjust the headset’s mix controls. Confirm that console chat still works when Bluetooth audio is active.
- Save profiles: Store a stereo music EQ and a game profile. Disable spatial processing for music if vocals or instruments sound altered.
- Test recovery: Unplug the dongle, connect the 3.5 mm cable or USB audio path, and verify that you can still hear and speak before a real trip or tournament.
Common problems and fixes
There is a delay in games
Switch from Bluetooth to the 2.4 GHz dongle, move the dongle away from USB 3.0 hubs and other radios, and check that the headset is not in a phone-only mode. If the console does not recognize the transmitter, verify the platform SKU and USB audio settings.

Bluetooth music interrupts game sound
The headset may support both radios but not simultaneous playback. Check its manual for a mixing function, then test whether a phone call takes priority. If simultaneous use is unsupported, use a single connection at a time or route phone audio through the console or PC.
The microphone works on PC but not console
Re-select the headset as the input device, check the physical mute position and confirm that the console supports microphone input from that transmitter. A 3.5 mm controller connection can work as a fallback, but it may require a different chat setting.
Battery life is far below the headline
Compare your use with the quoted mode. ANC, RGB lighting, haptics, high volume and simultaneous radios all consume power. Turn off features you do not need, reduce volume and check for firmware updates before concluding that the battery is defective.

A practical buying checklist
- Does the exact SKU support your console, PC, Mac, Switch or mobile device?
- Is a 2.4 GHz dongle or base station included?
- Can 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth play simultaneously, or must you switch?
- Is there a 3.5 mm or USB wired fallback?
- Can you save a stereo music EQ separately from a gaming profile?
- Does the microphone offer physical mute, sidetone and game/chat balance?
- Will the clamp, pads and weight remain comfortable with glasses and long sessions?
- Is the battery figure quoted for your intended mode, and can the headset operate while charging?
- Are cushions, microphones, cables or other wear parts replaceable?
- Have you checked current regional compatibility, warranty, stock and Bluetooth codec details?
Bottom line
For a wireless gaming headset with Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz, prioritize simultaneous dual-wireless operation, explicit support for every platform you own and a wired fallback. Choose the HyperX Cloud Alpha 2 Wireless when battery endurance dominates, the JBL Quantum 950 when ANC, a base station and replaceable parts matter, the ASUS ROG Delta II for broad tri-mode compatibility, the Razer Kraken V4 for profile-based simultaneous audio, or the Xbox Wireless Headset for an Xbox-centered setup. Whichever model you choose, use 2.4 GHz for games, Bluetooth for phone listening, and a stereo music EQ for recordings that deserve unprocessed sound.
