A prompt-based tool for publishing inside Roblox, a visual editor with publishing allowances, and a general-purpose engine with AI integrations solve different problems. Compare the destination, project scope, portability, AI limits, and full recurring cost before committing.
Start with the game you want to release
Write down three things before comparing tools: the kind of game you plan to make, the platforms you need to reach, and how much control you want over the project. A quick 2D prototype for one platform has different needs from a larger game intended for desktop, mobile, or consoles.
- Workflow: Decide whether you want to describe a game in prompts, build visually, work in a conventional engine with AI assistance, or connect an external AI agent.
- Scope: Check whether the product supports your intended 2D, 2.5D, or 3D project and whether its workflow is aimed at simple games or broader development.
- Destination: Name the store, platform, or host you actually need. A publish button does not necessarily mean you can export a portable project for other platforms.
- Control: Verify whether you can access project files, make manual builds, and meet the requirements of your intended store.
For example, if your project must ship outside Roblox, Roblox Build is not a general-purpose export route. If you want an engine that lists web, desktop, mobile, and console options, Unity may be relevant, but the plan and build requirements still need checking.
How the main workflows differ
GDevelop: visual creation with tiered AI and publishing allowances
GDevelop describes its editor and engine as open source under the MIT license. Its plans combine AI credits, cloud project limits, and publishing allowances, so compare the particular plan limits with your intended workflow rather than treating the product as one fixed package. The official GDevelop plans page lists 40 AI credits per month on Free, and 200, 1,000, and 3,000 AI credits per week on its listed Silver, Gold, and Pro tiers. It does not establish how many useful iterations or finished features those allowances buy.

The same page lists cloud project limits of 3, 50, 100, and unlimited across Free, Silver, Gold, and Pro. It lists publishing to gd.games across tiers, desktop and Google Play publishing with tier-specific daily limits, and iOS publishing allowances on Gold and Pro. It also lists manual export to any platform using development tools. Confirm what those tools require and whether the relevant company revenue or funding threshold affects eligibility before selecting a tier. Although the page advertises annual-payment savings of up to 40%, the plan prices were not exposed in the reviewed page, so calculate the current total directly from its live terms.
GDevelop may suit creators who prefer visual development and want AI and publishing allowances laid out by tier. Check which actions consume AI credits, the current paid price, and whether your target build is covered before paying.

Unity: a general-purpose engine with several AI routes
Unity is a conventional, general-purpose engine rather than a prompt-to-game publishing service. Its AI tools page describes an in-editor assistant, AI gateway, MCP server, official plugin, and CLI; Unity says these tools require Unity 6.0 or later. The Unity AI tools page says the CLI, MCP server, and official plugin are free to use without concurrency limits. The in-editor assistant instead requires credits or a qualifying subscription.
Unity says Pro, Enterprise, and Industry customers receive assistant access through their paid plan. Personal users can use a 14-day trial that converts to $10 per month. An external agent can also connect through the AI gateway, using that provider’s own subscription rather than Unity credits. Account for that separate provider cost if you choose this route.

Unity’s pricing page lists Personal as free for hobbyists and small indie teams, with web, desktop, AR/VR, and mobile publishing. It lists Pro at $210 per month on the monthly billing option shown and says Pro adds console and Apple Vision Pro builds. Check the current business eligibility terms and plan requirements on that page before choosing a subscription. Unity may fit creators who want a broad engine and flexibility in how they use AI, but the engine plan and AI service are not always the same cost.
Roblox Build: prompt-led creation for Roblox
Roblox Build is a mobile-first workflow: describe a game, playtest it, iterate through chat, and publish to Roblox. Roblox Creator Hub says the tool currently focuses on simpler 2D and 2.5D games. Its Build documentation says a game can be shared privately with up to 10 friends before publishing; it also specifies account and minimum-age requirements for playtesters. The documentation does not state a cost or usage-credit schedule, so check the current product terms rather than assuming it is free or has a particular limit.
Rank #4
Roblox’s newsroom announcement dated July 16, 2026, describes Build as integrated with Roblox Studio through shared backend, models, and chat history, so work can continue in Studio. That announcement is a dated product description; use the current Creator Hub help page for operational details. Build is appropriate to consider when Roblox is the intended destination, not when you need a portable game export to other stores or engines.
Compare the features that determine fit
| Decision | What to verify | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Creation workflow | Prompt generation, visual editor, in-editor assistant, external agent, or code-first engine | Determines how much learning, hands-on control, and iteration the process requires. |
| Game scope | 2D, 2.5D, or 3D support and the complexity the workflow is intended to handle | A tool aimed at simpler projects may not suit a larger production. |
| Publishing destination | Web, desktop, mobile, console, or a single host platform | A destination mismatch can make an otherwise appealing tool unusable for release. |
| Export control | Project portability, manual build tools, source or project access, and store requirements | “Publish” may mean hosting on the vendor’s platform, not portable export. |
| AI limits | Monthly or weekly credits, which actions consume them, trial duration, and supported editor version | A credit count alone does not reveal how much useful iteration it provides. |
| Full cost | Engine subscription plus AI assistant, external agent, assets, cloud, and publishing costs | The lowest headline plan may not represent the cost of the workflow you need. |
| Terms and data | Commercial eligibility, rights and declarations for AI-generated assets, and data-sharing controls | These terms can affect commercial use and release responsibilities; review the current official terms. |
Work out the full cost before choosing a plan
Separate the cost of access to the engine from the cost of AI use and publishing. The official figures below are vendor plan terms accessed October 7, 2026, not independent measures of quality or productivity. They can change; confirm the live pages before subscribing.

Best Value
| Product or plan detail | Published figure | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| GDevelop Free AI allowance | 40 credits per month | GDevelop plan-page allowance; the page does not translate credits into a number of finished features. |
| GDevelop paid-tier AI allowances | 200, 1,000, and 3,000 credits per week | Listed for Silver, Gold, and Pro, respectively; verify credit consumption and current plan prices. |
| GDevelop annual payment | Advertised savings of up to 40% | Offer and actual plan total may change; the reviewed page did not expose the plan prices. |
| Unity Personal in-editor assistant | 14-day trial, then $10 per month | Unity’s stated terms for Personal users; this is separate from any external AI provider subscription. |
| Unity Pro | $210 per month | Monthly billing option listed on Unity’s pricing page; check current plan and eligibility terms. |
| Roblox Build | Cost and usage-credit schedule not stated | Roblox Creator Hub documentation reviewed does not specify them; check current product terms. |
For a realistic budget, list costs that can sit outside the engine plan: a separate AI provider, paid assets, cloud storage, platform-specific build requirements, and publishing costs. The appropriate total depends on your chosen workflow and release target, so do not infer it from a free plan label or an AI-credit count alone.
Use this decision path
- Name the release target. If you want to publish within Roblox, assess Build. If you need several listed web, desktop, mobile, or console destinations, compare GDevelop’s current publishing allowances with Unity’s plan options.
- Match the tool to your game and workflow. Consider Roblox Build for its documented simpler 2D/2.5D focus, GDevelop for visual creation, or Unity for a general-purpose engine with multiple AI integration routes.
- Confirm a real export path. Check whether the tool provides a portable project or manual build tools for your target, rather than assuming “publish” means export to any store.
- Check AI prerequisites and limits. For Unity’s described AI tools, confirm you use Unity 6.0 or newer. For GDevelop, verify credit consumption and publishing caps on the plan you would actually use.
- Calculate the recurring total. Add the engine plan, AI usage or provider subscription, and any relevant cloud, asset, or publishing expenses. Verify the current terms before subscribing.
- Review commercial and data terms. Confirm eligibility, AI asset rights or declaration requirements, and data-sharing controls for the specific product and release.
What the available comparisons can and cannot tell you
Official product pages establish listed features, plan terms, and stated limitations; they do not establish which tool makes a game faster, produces better results, or is best for every creator. No reliable independent comparative benchmark is established here. Treat plan figures as time-sensitive vendor claims and choose based on verified workflow and destination fit, not an assumed ranking.
