Choose a first-person roguelike shooter if you want to aim weapons through a 3D space, read elevation and distance, and move through levels while fighting. Choose The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth if you want fixed 2D rooms, projectile-dodging patterns, radically changing item combinations, and a dark solo or local co-op run structure. The right choice is less about which label sounds better than about which kind of attention you enjoy every few seconds.

Pick the FPS side when spatial aiming is the fun
- You like putting the reticle on a target and adjusting aim continuously.
- You enjoy movement that uses distance, elevation and 3D positioning rather than only a room outline.
- You want the physical feel of a shooter even when a run resets.
- You are comfortable learning an individual game’s rules for weapons, drops and upgrades, because first-person roguelikes do not all use the same systems.
Pick Isaac when reading rooms is the fun

Isaac’s co-op options
The Steam listing for The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth includes single-player, shared and split-screen play, and Steam Remote Play Together. That makes it a practical choice for local co-op or for inviting another player into the same run through Steam’s remote feature.
