Choose champions for the encounter you want to beat, not from a universal “best” list. Start with the mode and objective, then select skills that cover the fight’s damage, survival, buffs, debuffs, and control needs. Check affinity, gear, and team synergy before using rarity or Team Power to break a tie.
Start with the mode and the fight’s objective
A champion who helps clear waves may not solve a boss fight or an Arena matchup. Before choosing a lineup, name the problem your team needs to solve: deal damage quickly, survive sustained attacks, land a key debuff, recover health, control enemies, or counter a particular opposing lineup.
RAID lets players save separate team setups for general battles, Faction Wars, Chimera, Doom Tower, Hydra, and PvP. Some modes also let you set skill instructions by round. Use those setups to build for specific jobs rather than expecting one roster to perform equally well everywhere. Plarium’s Team Setup guide describes these options.
Read skills to identify each champion’s real job
Plarium groups champions into four types: Attack, Defense, HP, and Support. These are useful first clues: Attack champions focus on damage; Defense champions are durable and can disrupt enemies; HP champions are durable and can draw attacks; Support champions provide healing, buffs, and debuffs. But a type label is not a substitute for reading the actual skills. Check what a champion does, how the abilities work, and whether those effects help with your specific fight. For an unfamiliar champion, Plarium’s beginner advice is to turn off Auto and try the champion in Manual mode while reviewing the skills in the Champion profile. This helps you see how abilities work together before committing resources. Read Plarium’s beginner tips.
Build a team that covers the fight’s needs
Evaluate the lineup as a whole. One champion may bring damage while another keeps the team alive or makes enemies easier to defeat. The right mix depends on the encounter; no fixed number of damage dealers or Support champions works for every roster and mode.

- Damage: Can the team defeat enemies within the time or survival limits of the fight?
- Survival: Does it have the protection, healing, or durability it needs to withstand incoming damage?
- Useful effects: Do the team’s buffs, debuffs, or control abilities address the encounter?
- Synergy: Does one champion enable another, or are several champions duplicating a job the team already covers?
Buffs temporarily improve allies; debuffs weaken enemies or apply other harmful effects. A debuff must get past the target’s Resistance, and Accuracy and Resistance are relevant to that check. Review the effects and cooldowns in the actual skill descriptions, then consider whether the champion’s stats support the plan. Account for affinity matchups
Affinity can affect both damage and the reliability of an attack. The cycle is Force beats Magic, Magic beats Spirit, and Spirit beats Force; Void has no direct affinity advantage or disadvantage. According to Plarium Support’s affinity guide, an affinity advantage gives a skill a 50% chance to land as a Crushing Hit and adds 15 percentage points to Critical Hit chance. An affinity disadvantage reduces damage by 20% and gives a 35% chance of a Weak Hit.

These mechanics matter when a plan depends on a particular attack or debuff landing. If the target’s affinity is unfavorable, consider another champion or a different approach where your roster allows it.
Compare gear and build investment, not just set names
Gear affects whether a champion can perform its assigned job. Each champion can equip six Artifact types—weapon, helmet, shield, gauntlets, chestplate, and boots—and one accessory of each of three types: ring, amulet, and banner. Gear sets add effects; Plarium gives Shield and Stun as examples. Compare the resulting stats and utility for the role rather than choosing a set name in isolation. When comparing two candidates, consider what stats, masteries, and blessings each needs to contribute effectively, along with the investment your account can support. Independent build directories can offer a second opinion, but their advice may change and should be checked against the current skill kit and the mode you are preparing for. Use Team Power as context, not a win prediction
Team Power is the sum of the individual Champions’ Powers; it does not guarantee that a team will win. Plarium says, “Team synergy and counter-pick are a much more accurate way to defeat your opponents.” A lower-power team may suit a matchup better if its skills work together and answer the opponent’s lineup. Choose who to build first based on your next bottleneck
There is no universal first-investment list established by the available official guidance. For a beginner, Plarium recommends learning Campaign and using gear earned there before moving heavily into Dungeons. Treat that as general beginner guidance, not a rule for every account or endgame goal. Focus resources on a small, useful core that helps with your current progression, then choose the next champion to address the content your team cannot yet handle. A practical checklist for comparing two champions
When two roster options compete for the same slot, weigh them against the actual fight rather than asking which is universally stronger.
- Does the champion’s kit fit the target encounter and mode?
- What useful skills does the champion bring, and how consistently can they be used?
- Does the champion fill a needed role—damage, protection, healing, buffs, debuffs, or control—or duplicate an existing one?
- How does the champion’s affinity match up against the target?
- Can your available stats, gear, masteries, and blessings support the role?
- Does the champion add synergy to the lineup, and is the champion useful in other modes your account plays?
The best choice depends on your roster, progression, gear, and the mode or stage you are trying to clear. Champion balance and mode details can change, so treat tier lists and build recommendations as time-sensitive guidance rather than guarantees.
