Pokémon GO’s Holiday Part 1 Timed Research had three task pages followed by a final reward claim. On page one, complete the shared tasks, then choose Spark for an Ice-type route or Sierra for a Fire-type route. The research was tied to the December 2024 event and its original deadline was December 27, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. local time; that date has passed, and the available sources do not establish that the research is available now.
Holiday Part 1 event dates and research deadline
Niantic scheduled Holiday Part 1 from Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. through Sunday, December 22, 2024, at 9:59 a.m. local time. During the event, players received 2× XP for catching Pokémon and half hatch distance for Eggs placed in Incubators during the event. Dedenne wearing holiday attire debuted, and Niantic also highlighted the debut of Shiny Sandygast. Niantic’s event announcement.

The announcement advertised the paid, event-exclusive Timed Research for US$2.00 or the equivalent local pricing tier. Its advertised rewards included two Premium Battle Passes, one Incubator, 1,500 Stardust, and encounters with event-themed Pokémon. These were historical ticket details, not a current offer; tickets could not be purchased with PokéCoins.
Niantic stated: “The tasks associated with this Timed Research must be completed and their rewards must be claimed before Friday, December 27, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. local time.” Because that original deadline is past, this walkthrough explains the tasks as they appeared during the event; the sources do not establish that players can buy or complete the research now.

Choose Spark or Sierra
Spark leads to the Ice-type route, which lists a Vulpix encounter on page two. Sierra leads to the Fire-type route, which lists a Shadow Vulpix encounter. The later catch and power-up tasks follow the selected type; snapshots, Field Research, and Power Spot tasks are the same on both routes. Both routes list Sandygast on page three.
| Choice | Type-specific tasks | Page-two listed encounter | Shared route tasks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spark | Catch Ice-type Pokémon; power up Ice-type Pokémon | Vulpix | Snapshot five different wild Pokémon; complete five Field Research tasks; collect MP from three Power Spots |
| Sierra | Catch Fire-type Pokémon; power up Fire-type Pokémon | Shadow Vulpix | Snapshot five different wild Pokémon; complete five Field Research tasks; collect MP from three Power Spots |

Claim the final reward page
After the three task pages, the final page is a claim-reward step: its task reward is 2,500 XP, and the listed total reward is 2,500 Stardust. Niantic’s deadline applied to both completing tasks and claiming their rewards, so finishing a task without claiming it by the cutoff did not meet the stated requirement.
