If you can access The Great Detective, follow the Guest Relations investigation from Athelton Jones at the 20th Anniversary Grounds in Tanaris: question Team Solid, investigate the beach clues, speak with the four people at the scene, then accuse Scrapes to Jones. The quest is part of the limited-time 20th Anniversary story, so check your in-game quest availability first; historical guides do not establish that it can still be started in October 2026.
How to complete The Great Detective
This is a Guest Relations investigation tied to World of Warcraft’s 20th Anniversary content. Use the in-game objective and progress indicator if they differ from the approximate coordinates or progress percentages below; those details come from historical third-party walkthroughs and may change.
1. Start the investigation and question Team Solid
- At the Anniversary Grounds in Tanaris, speak with Athelton Jones to begin the investigation.
- Find the nearby Team Solid NPCs around
/way Tanaris 63.80, 51.05. Talk to all three repeatedly, selecting newly available dialogue until they explain where Herrkrop went. NPC positions are reported around 63.80–63.81, 51.05–51.07. Wowhead’s quest entry and the historical RaidLine walkthrough describe this part of the sequence.
2. Examine the beach clues
- Go to the abandoned chaise lounge around
/way Tanaris 66.00, 59.51and use the Idol of Ohn’ahra clue tool there. RaidLine reports that this advances the investigation to 48%. - Head to the opposite shore, around
/way Tanaris 66.23, 40.61. Use the Torch of Pyrreth near the sand piles until the body clue appears, then interact with the body. The quest database entry and RaidLine identify the Torch of Pyrreth as the reveal tool.
3. Question the people at the scene
Speak with Athelton Jones, Nat Pagle, Julia Henning, and Scrapes. The historical walkthrough reports these approximate positions:
- Athelton Jones: 66.33, 40.65
- Nat Pagle: 65.89, 40.39
- Julia Henning: 65.76, 41.20
- Scrapes: 66.20, 40.69
RaidLine says the progress bar reaches 96% after these conversations.

4. Accuse Scrapes
Return to Athelton Jones and accuse Scrapes. Contemporary walkthroughs describe this as the final step that completes the investigation sequence.
Can you still start the quest?
The quest belongs to the 20th Anniversary Guest Relations story. A November 2024 guide said the Anniversary Event was scheduled to end on January 6, 2025, and a report that month said the Guest Relations local stories would no longer be obtainable after the event. Those historical reports do not confirm whether the quest has since returned or is available by another route, so verify access in your current game rather than assuming a new character can begin it.

Eligibility details are also not settled by the available sources: Wowhead’s Alyx page displays a level requirement of 30, but its community reports conflict about expansion ownership and subscription requirements. - Return to the Team Solid NPCs and exhaust any newly available dialogue options.
- At the beach, use the specified clue tool near the relevant object or sand piles, then interact with the revealed clue.
- Speak to each of the four people at the scene and watch the in-game objective or progress indicator before returning to Jones.
The walkthrough’s coordinates and 48%/96% markers are historical guide details, not guaranteed current-game values. If a marker differs, follow the quest text and what the current client registers.
