To complete The Mysterious Shade in Path of Exile 2, finish Secrets in the Dark, clear the Grim Tangle roots with Una, and collect both Memorial Key Pieces from Draven and Asinia. Use them to open the Memorial Gate, defeat Lachlann of Endless Lament, then take Count Lachlann’s Ring to Una in Clearfell. After the Hooded One’s revival, speak to him to finish the quest.
1. Finish Secrets in the Dark and clear the Grim Tangle
Secrets in the Dark is required before you can pass the roots blocking the route through the Grim Tangle. Once that quest is complete, return to the Grim Tangle and summon Una. Talk to her about the roots so she clears the way. The Grim Tangle is an exploration area with enemies, and its instance layout is not fixed.
2. Find the Memorial Gate
Continue through the Grim Tangle to reach the Cemetery of the Eternals. Speak with Lachlann the Lost beside the Memorial Gate. He asks you to find two Memorial Key Pieces, which means you must complete both nearby dungeon branches before the gate will open.
3. Get the two Memorial Key Pieces
Defeat Draven in the Mausoleum of the Praetor
From the Cemetery of the Eternals, enter the Mausoleum of the Praetor and defeat Draven, the Eternal Praetor. He provides one of the key pieces.

Defeat Asinia in the Tomb of the Consort
Enter the Tomb of the Consort from the Cemetery and defeat Asinia, Praetor Consort, to obtain the other key piece. Both pieces are required; neither dungeon branch can be skipped for the Memorial Gate.
4. Open the Memorial Gate and defeat Lachlann
Return to the Memorial Gate and use both key pieces. Go through with Lachlann the Lost and defeat Lachlann of Endless Lament. Collect Count Lachlann’s Ring after the fight; you need it for the handoff to Una.

5. Give the ring to Una and finish the quest
Return to Clearfell Encampment and give Count Lachlann’s Ring to Una. Watch the Hooded One’s revival scene. When his quest marker appears, speak to him to complete The Mysterious Shade.

The Mysterious Shade unlocks Sorrow Among Stones. Count Lachlann’s Ring and an Uncut Support Gem are listed as rewards for Sorrow Among Stones, the related quest—not as rewards for The Mysterious Shade itself.

After the Hooded One has been revived, he becomes available in camp as a free item-identification NPC. Put the items you want identified in your character’s inventory; items left in the stash cannot be identified through this service.
The steps above follow walkthroughs last updated December 18, 2025. Quest steps can change in later game patches, so check the current Act 1 objectives if the live game no longer matches them.
