- Pick up Winter Night from Eva Levante. Visit Eva in the Tower while the Dawning is active and acquire the quest.
- Defeat 75 combatants with snowballs. The quest reference lists snowball final blows as the objective.
- Defeat 25 combatants with upgraded snowballs. Before pursuing these final blows, purchase both Long Winter and Stay Frosty from Eva, as specified by the quest reference.
- Bake and deliver one Classic Butter Cookie to Eva. Use the Dawning oven and deliver the finished cookie to her.
- Return to Eva after completing the objectives. The quest reference says this is when you receive the Dawning Memento.
Bungie’s 2023 announcement confirms the quest’s connection to the reward, while the specific counts and upgrade requirements come from the community-maintained Winter Night quest reference. Read the live quest objectives and check Eva’s current vendor options before grinding, since a future event version may differ.
How to get snowballs and upgraded snowball final blows
The quest reference says snowballs spawn after combatants are defeated with weapons or abilities in applicable locations or Vanguard Ops. It also identifies Long Winter and Stay Frosty, both purchased from Eva, as the upgrades needed for the upgraded-snowball objective.

- Look for snowballs in locations or Vanguard Ops where they spawn; the reference does not claim they are available everywhere.
- Track the two final-blow counts separately in the active quest, rather than assuming progress on one objective also completes the other.
What the Dawning Memento does
The Dawning Memento is a cosmetic item. The community-maintained Dawning Memento item reference says it can be applied to a shaped weapon, with cosmetic bonuses unlocking as that weapon levels.
That reference also describes additional Mementos as possible drops from A Gift in Return after you have obtained the first one, and says you can hold only one Memento at a time. Treat these as item-reference details, not a guarantee of a drop: the additional acquisition is described as random.

When Winter Night is available
The Dawning is a limited-time event, so do not assume Winter Night is available outside its active window. Bungie’s Dawning guide covers the event’s oven, materials, snowball upgrades, and Event Card rewards; it says Event Card rewards cannot be claimed after the live event ends.
Bungie’s 2025 preview listed that year’s Dawning dates as December 16, 2025 through January 6, 2026. Those dates establish the schedule for the 2025 event only; the reviewed sources do not confirm whether Winter Night will return in the 2026 Dawning or whether its objectives will stay the same. Check Bungie’s current event information and the in-game quest list when the next Dawning begins.

Why snowball kills may not count
Bungie Help acknowledged reports during the 2024 event that some players’ snowball final blows were not tracking. The same historical report noted that abandoning Winter Night could leave it unavailable for reacquisition. The report does not establish whether either problem persists.
- Confirm that Long Winter and Stay Frosty are purchased for the upgraded-snowball objective.
- Check the active quest text and the correct objective counter while defeating combatants with snowballs.
- Avoid abandoning the quest merely as a troubleshooting step; the 2024 report described reacquisition problems for some players.
If the counter still fails to advance, consult Bungie Help for current support guidance rather than relying on an old event workaround.
