Open KytyPS5’s game or library configuration dialog, select Controller, and adjust the controls there. Vibration intensity scales the DualSense rumble request from 0 to 100 percent, Speaker volume controls the pad’s speaker independently, and the lightbar can either use a fixed custom color or return to Default so the game controls it. The same dialog assigns keyboard input to a player; connected gamepads occupy the remaining player slots in connection order.
For reliable detection, connect or pair the DualSense before launching the game, verify that the operating system exposes it as a gamepad, map controls in the input screen, then test buttons, sticks, speaker, lightbar and rumble in a game menu. The procedure below also explains why trigger effects may be unavailable, why Linux hotplug can fail, and how USB and Bluetooth differ in the documented KytyPS5 behavior.

What KytyPS5’s controller settings actually control
KytyPS5 separates physical connection, input mapping and feedback controls. The Controller section does not create a new rumble effect; it changes how KytyPS5 applies effects requested by the game. Understanding that distinction makes troubleshooting much easier: a slider can scale an existing request, but it cannot make a game that never asks for rumble vibrate.
| Control | Available setting | Documented behavior |
|---|---|---|
| DualSense lightbar | Custom color with preview, or Default | A custom choice holds the selected color. Default lets the game control the lightbar. The interface warns that Bluetooth color updates may take several seconds. |
| Vibration intensity | Horizontal slider from 0 to 100 | The default is 100%. KytyPS5 scales the game’s requested DualSense vibration over USB and Bluetooth. At 0%, rumble is suppressed; at 100%, the requested strength is passed through; intermediate values make it gentler. |
| Speaker volume | Horizontal slider from 0 to 100 | The default is 50%. The UI identifies 50% as the previous default and documents up to 6 dB of additional software gain at 100%. |
| Keyboard player | A player assignment in the controller dialog | The selected player receives keyboard input. Connected gamepads fill the remaining player slots in connection order. |
Every player uses the same input mapping. The keyboard-player selector therefore changes who receives keyboard events; it does not create a separate set of button bindings for each player.

Prepare the connection before opening a game
Connect a DualSense by USB or Bluetooth
Plug the controller in by USB or pair it over Bluetooth before starting the game. This order is part of the project’s setup guidance because KytyPS5 needs the operating system to expose the device when it initializes its input layer. If you connect after launch and the controller does not appear, close the game, connect the pad, and start again before changing mappings.
Use a DualSense-class device when you need DualSense haptics or adaptive trigger effects. A generic gamepad can still provide ordinary button, stick and rumble input, but the implementation’s DualSense-specific effects depend on a haptics backend that recognizes the appropriate hardware and connection path.
Confirm that the operating system sees a gamepad
Before blaming KytyPS5, check the host operating system’s game-controller list or a simple gamepad tester. The relevant test is whether buttons and axes produce input at the operating-system level. A charging-only cable, an unpaired Bluetooth device or a missing host driver will not become visible merely by changing an emulator slider.
Linux build requirements
The project warns that a Linux build made without SDL audio or udev development packages may lack sound support and gamepad hotplug support. Install the required SDL audio and udev development packages for the distribution, then rebuild KytyPS5, or use a build compiled with those dependencies. If the controller works only when connected before launch, missing hotplug support is a likely explanation.
Configure the controller step by step
- Connect the controller first. Attach the DualSense by USB or pair it over Bluetooth, then confirm that the operating system exposes it as a gamepad.
- Open the game or library configuration area. Select the entry for the game you intend to run and open its controller or input settings dialog.
- Open the Controller section. This is where KytyPS5 exposes the lightbar, vibration, speaker and keyboard-player controls.
- Set Vibration intensity. Drag the horizontal slider to the percentage that suits the game and your controller. The value is a multiplier on the game’s requested rumble, so changing it affects subsequent haptic output without replacing the game’s effect pattern.
- Set Speaker volume independently. Move the speaker slider separately from vibration. The upper end adds software gain according to the UI’s documented scale; it does not increase the mechanical strength of rumble.
- Choose lightbar behavior. Select Custom to choose a fixed color and preview it, or choose Default to return control to the game. When using Bluetooth, wait several seconds before deciding that a color change failed.
- Assign Keyboard player. Select the player who should receive keyboard events. Gamepads then occupy the other player slots in the order in which KytyPS5 sees them.
- Open the input-mapping screen. Bind host keyboard, mouse or gamepad inputs to the DualSense’s sticks, triggers, face buttons and other controls. Select a binding and use Clear to remove that selected binding; Clear does not erase the entire configuration.
- Save the configuration. Return to the game and enter a menu where button presses, analog movement and feedback can be observed without risking an active match or level.
- Test each feature. Confirm a face button, both sticks, a trigger, the speaker, the lightbar and rumble. If the game is frozen during emulation, wait until you have confirmed that the emulator is still running before treating the lack of input as a controller failure.
How KytyPS5 applies rumble and trigger effects
KytyPS5’s controller implementation keeps the vibration values requested by the game. When you change Vibration intensity, it reapplies that cached request using the new scale. Conceptually, a requested motor strength is multiplied by the selected percentage and then sent to the controller; lowering the slider therefore reduces the same effect rather than selecting a different preset.

- Haptic feedback - Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions with dual actuators which replace traditional rumble motors. In your hands, these dynamic vibrations can simulate the feeling of everything from environments to the recoil of different weapons. .Operating temperature : 41 °F to 95 °F (5 °C to 35 °C)
- Adaptive triggers - Experience varying levels of force and tension as you interact with your in-game gear and environments. From pulling back an increasingly tight bowstring to hitting the brakes on a speeding car, feel physically connected to your on-screen actions.
- Built-in microphone and headset jack - Chat with friends online using the built-in microphone or by connecting a headset to the 3.5mm jack. Easily switch voice capture on and off at a moment’s notice with the dedicated mute button. Internet and account for PlayStation Network required.
- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
When the haptics backend is available, the implementation sends DualSense haptic vibration. Trigger-effect strengths are scaled through the same setting family. This is why a supported DualSense can react to both ordinary rumble and game-defined trigger resistance while a generic pad may respond only with conventional rumble.
Why a lower value can still feel strong
The slider scales the game’s request. It does not normalize every game to one physical intensity, and it cannot compensate for differences in game effect design, firmware or connection support. If one title asks for a much stronger effect than another, the same percentage can feel different. Reduce the value and test again in the same game menu when you want a meaningful comparison.
Why trigger effects may be absent
Trigger effects require three conditions: a DualSense-class controller, a connection path supported by the haptics backend, and a game that requests the effect. If any condition is missing, ordinary buttons and rumble can still work while adaptive trigger behavior does not. Do not interpret working vibration as proof that trigger effects are available.
Map controls without losing the rest of the layout
Understand the shared mapping model
KytyPS5 uses one input mapping for every player. The Keyboard player setting decides which player receives keyboard input; it does not clone or isolate mappings. Gamepads fill the other player positions in connection order, so the order in which multiple pads are detected can determine which physical controller becomes player one, two or another slot.
Bind the controls you actually use
In the mapping screen, assign host inputs to the DualSense’s left and right sticks, triggers, face buttons and other controls. A keyboard key, mouse input or another gamepad input can be used as the host-side source where the mapping screen offers that input type. Test analog controls separately from digital buttons: a stick that is bound to the wrong axis can appear to work while producing unusable movement in a game.

No controller appears in KytyPS5
- Connect or pair the controller before launching the game.
- Check the operating system’s game-controller view. If the pad is absent there, fix the cable, pairing or host-driver problem first.
- On Linux, check whether the KytyPS5 build includes SDL audio and udev development support. A build made without the required packages can lose gamepad hotplug support.
- Restart KytyPS5 after the controller is visible to the operating system.
Buttons work but rumble is too strong or too weak
- Return to Controller and change Vibration intensity.
- Test the new value in the same game menu. The setting scales the game’s cached rumble request; it does not invent a new effect.
- If there is no rumble at any value, confirm that the game requests vibration, that the controller is a DualSense or otherwise rumble-capable device, and that the haptics backend is available.
Trigger effects do not respond
- Verify that the device is a DualSense-class controller.
- Try the connection path supported by your haptics backend; ordinary gamepad support does not imply DualSense trigger support.
- Check the game itself. A title that does not request adaptive trigger effects cannot produce them through the emulator.
The keyboard controls the wrong player
Change Keyboard player in the Controller section. Because gamepads fill remaining slots in connection order and all players share one mapping, reconnecting pads can also change which physical device occupies a slot.
The Bluetooth lightbar appears not to change
Wait several seconds after applying the color. KytyPS5’s UI specifically warns that Bluetooth DualSense color updates can be delayed. If the color still does not change, test the same custom color over USB to separate a wireless update delay from a broader configuration problem.
The game is frozen and the controller seems dead
First determine whether emulation is still progressing. A frozen game can stop responding to input and feedback even when the controller connection is healthy. Confirm that KytyPS5 is running before remapping controls or reinstalling drivers.

Practical settings choices
Suppress all rumble while keeping other feedback
Set Vibration intensity to 0. This suppresses the game’s requested rumble while leaving the separate speaker and lightbar controls available. If a title uses trigger effects through the same haptics setting family, those effects are also subject to the selected scale.
Use full game-requested strength
Set the vibration slider to 100 when you want KytyPS5 to pass the requested strength through without reduction. This is the documented default, not a promise that every game will feel equally strong.
Reduce noise without muting the controller speaker
Lower vibration intensity while leaving Speaker volume at the level you prefer. The two sliders are independent. The interface documents 50% as the previous speaker default and up to 6 dB of software gain at 100%; choose the lowest level that remains clear in your environment.
Let each game manage the lightbar
Choose Default instead of a custom color. This returns lightbar control to the game, which is useful when a title uses color changes to communicate status.
A repeatable verification checklist
- The controller was connected or paired before the game started.
- The operating system reports a working gamepad.
- The intended player is selected under Keyboard player.
- Each required stick, trigger and face button has one tested binding.
- Clear was used only on mistaken bindings, not as a full-layout reset.
- Vibration was tested at the chosen intensity in a game menu.
- Speaker volume was checked independently from rumble.
- The lightbar behavior matches the selected custom or Default mode.
- Bluetooth users allowed several seconds for lightbar updates.
- Linux users confirmed that the build includes the dependencies needed for sound and hotplug.
Once these checks pass, controller behavior is usually determined by the game’s requested effects, the selected mapping and the connection path rather than by an additional hidden KytyPS5 control.
