Classic Blizzard games do not share one settings screen. Start by identifying the exact game, edition, patch and platform, then open that title’s in-game Options, Video/Graphics or System menu. StarCraft: Remastered uses Options > Video, Diablo III uses Options > Video, and World of Warcraft uses Esc > System > Graphics. Hotkeys are handled separately in several games, and remastered editions expose controls that were absent from the original releases.
For the fastest practical setup, remap the actions you use most, keep fixed keys and control groups in mind in StarCraft: Remastered, lower visual effects before lowering frame-rate limits in WoW Classic, and use gamma, contrast, font scaling and audio sliders as accessibility tools rather than treating them as cosmetic extras. The sections below separate original clients from remasters so that a setting is not applied to the wrong edition.

- Diablo II (original): the legacy manual documents lighting, shadows, perspective and gamma controls.
- Diablo II: Resurrected: the remaster adds modern display options, extensive mouse, keyboard and controller bindings, and accessibility controls. Blizzard documents it for Windows PC, Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.
- StarCraft: Remastered: uses the original real-time-strategy input model with broad hotkey remapping but retains fixed function-key and control-group behavior.
- Warcraft III: Reforged: patch 2.0 added an in-game hotkey customization screen.
- World of Warcraft Classic: the cited setup guidance assumes a PC with a keyboard and mouse; interface details can change between Classic versions.
If a control described below is missing, check that you are not running the original client instead of its remaster, or a different Classic-era patch. Blizzard organizes support by title rather than by one universal accessibility panel.

Configure controls and hotkeys
StarCraft: Remastered
Open the game’s hotkey options and assign ordinary commands to keys that match your hand position and keyboard layout. Group frequently used commands by location: production and camera actions should be reachable without releasing movement keys, while low-frequency functions can remain on less convenient keys.
Two limitations are intentional. Function keys and control groups cannot be remapped. Plan around those fixed inputs instead of repeatedly searching for a way to move them. Control groups remain tied to the game’s established number-row behavior, and the F-key functions retain their original roles.

This removes the accidental interruption without changing the rest of the F-key system.
After binding, enter a practice game and test every high-frequency command: select, move, attack, stop, build, rally, production queues and camera movement. A key can appear available in the menu yet conflict with a keyboard layout, operating-system shortcut or another command. Test with the same language and hardware you use for normal play.
Warcraft III: Reforged
In version 2.0 and later, use the in-game hotkey customization screen rather than editing external files. Bind commands and abilities to positions that minimize finger travel, then load a short custom game to verify that unit, hero and item commands all trigger correctly.
Keep a written copy or screenshot of your preferred layout before experimenting. If a patch restores defaults, you can rebuild the scheme quickly. Check for duplicate assignments when a command appears not to respond: the intended key may still be assigned to a higher-priority action.

- The Diablo Prime Evil Collection includes Diablo II: Resurrected, Diablo III, the Reaper of Souls expansion which includes Act V, Adventure Mode and the Crusader class, and the Rise of the Necromancer pack, with the Necromancer class, and additional cosmetic items. This collection also includes the Mephisto pet and the fearsome wings, Hatred’s Grasp, for Diablo III.
Diablo II: Resurrected mouse and keyboard
Blizzard documents twelve bindable keys and skills for mouse-and-keyboard play, including the neutral Interact action. Assign Interact deliberately instead of relying on a crowded attack or pickup key; it is useful when the cursor must open objects, speak to characters or collect items without changing the active skill.
Place movement-adjacent skills on keys you can reach without lifting your hand. Put potion, town and defensive actions where they remain accessible while the other hand controls the mouse. Test bindings in a safe area, then in combat, because a key that feels comfortable in menus may be difficult to press while moving and aiming.
Diablo II: Resurrected controllers and one-handed play
The controller scheme is designed for heavy modification. Reassign the actions you use most often and test alternate analog-stick assignments if one hand has limited reach. Keep movement, interact, evade or defensive actions within the easiest range; place infrequent inventory functions farther away.
Bindings are stored per game setup, so verify them after switching between controller and mouse-and-keyboard input. On consoles, also check the platform’s own button-remapping layer. The game can only respond to the inputs the operating system or console presents to it.

Make classic graphics readable and efficient
Original Diablo II: prioritize lighting and visibility
The original manual lists three Lighting Quality levels: Low, Medium and High. For the fastest performance, Blizzard recommends Lighting Quality: Low, Blended Shadows: Off and Perspective: Off. These settings remove expensive effects and the perspective treatment that can make older hardware work harder.
Use Gamma when the image is too dark rather than raising every detail setting. Gamma brightens the scene without adding lighting effects. Increase it gradually: excessive gamma can wash out item colors and reduce the contrast that helps separate enemies from terrain.
If the game runs smoothly but important objects disappear into dark areas, restore one visual option at a time. Raising Lighting Quality or enabling Blended Shadows changes the appearance, while Gamma addresses overall brightness. Test each change in the same dungeon or outdoor area so that you are comparing like with like.

Diablo II: Resurrected Legacy graphics
When using the Legacy graphics presentation, compare the three available emulation modes:
- GDI: a basic original-style rendering path.
- Glide: emulates the 3D accelerator presentation associated with the original game.
- Resurrected: applies the remaster’s rendering treatment while displaying the Legacy game view.
Choose the mode that gives you the clearest sprites and acceptable frame pacing on your hardware. Filtering and scaling can make one mode easier to read than another, especially on a modern high-resolution monitor. The PC version also exposes a VFX quality option; lower it when spell effects or environmental effects cause drops while the rest of the image is stable.
StarCraft: Remastered video options
Use the game’s Video menu to control presentation and synchronization. Turn on VSync when visible tearing distracts you or when the monitor and game output arrive out of phase. If VSync introduces noticeable input delay on your system, compare a short session with it off and use a frame-rate cap or display-level synchronization instead.
Remastered visuals are intended to preserve the original game rather than redesign its mechanics. Rob Bridenbecker, who led Blizzard’s Classic Games team, described the goal as: “It should be just like putting on your glasses, everything crisps up, but it’s still the same game.” That distinction matters when choosing a setting: improve clarity and stability without expecting modern gameplay systems to appear.
World of Warcraft Classic: lower the expensive settings first
For slow or choppy play, Blizzard’s manual recommends changing the largest contributors before relying on synchronization or frame-rate limits. Lower the display resolution first, then reduce FarClip, World Detail and Animation. FarClip controls how far the world is drawn; World Detail affects scene complexity; Animation changes the quality or quantity of animated elements.
Make one change at a time and revisit the same crowded area, raid entrance or city street. If performance improves after reducing a setting, you have identified a useful trade-off. If it does not, restore that setting and test the next one so that you do not sacrifice image quality without gaining stability.
Use accessibility controls as part of the setup
Scale text and interface elements
Diablo II: Resurrected documents larger fonts and Windows UI scaling. Increase both when item names, menus or tooltips are difficult to read at your normal viewing distance. Windows scaling affects the surrounding desktop and can make the game easier to use on a high-density display, while an in-game font option changes text inside the game.

- Exclusive Red with Black Smoke Marble 2x LP Vinyl Record
Apply the smallest increase that solves the problem, then check whether enlarged text overlaps other interface elements. If it does, adjust the Windows scale and the game’s font option separately rather than maximizing both.
Improve visual contrast
Use gamma and contrast controls when dark scenes, low-contrast terrain or bright effects hide important information. In the original Diablo II, Gamma is the documented brightness control. In Diablo II: Resurrected, the accessibility settings include gamma and contrast adjustments.
Raise contrast when objects blend into the background; raise gamma when the entire scene is too dark. These solve different problems. After changing either one, inspect neutral colors and item text so that a visibility gain does not turn into glare or washed-out highlights.
Turn on explicit combat feedback
Diablo II: Resurrected includes miss text. Enable it when visual effects make hit confirmation difficult or when hearing a successful attack is unreliable. Text feedback is especially useful for ranged attacks and status effects that are hard to distinguish in a crowded fight.
Balance audio channels for attention and hearing
The remaster exposes separate sliders for voices, user-interface cues, footsteps and combat impacts, in addition to broader audio controls. Raise the channels that carry information you need and lower ambience or effects that mask them. Blizzard accessibility lead Drew McCrory wrote: “Another key piece of accessibility is key bindings. Allowing players to set their station fully is critical.” The same principle applies to audio: tune the mix for your situation, whether you are streaming, sharing a room or keeping overall volume low.
Test audio with a repeatable sequence: open a menu for UI sounds, speak to a character for voice volume, walk for footsteps and enter a low-risk fight for impacts. This makes it easier to identify which channel needs adjustment instead of raising the master volume.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteControl frame pacing, VSync and caps
Change in-game detail before applying a frame-rate cap. A cap can make output more consistent, but it cannot compensate for a scene that is already too demanding. Once resolution, effects and world detail are reasonable, use the title’s synchronization control when tearing or uneven presentation remains.
Best Value
Blizzard documents these VSync locations: Diablo III at Game Menu > Options > Video, StarCraft: Remastered at Options > Video, and World of Warcraft at Esc > System > Graphics. The setting is title-specific; changing VSync in one game does not change it in another.
World of Warcraft also supports a console frame-rate command. Enter /console maxfps 30 in the chat box to cap the game at 30 frames per second. Use this only when a 30-FPS ceiling suits your display and workload; it is a deliberate limit, not a universal fix for stutter.
Troubleshoot by symptom
The image tears
- Open the game’s Video or Graphics menu and enable VSync.
- Play the same scene for several minutes and watch for both tearing and input delay.
- If delay is unacceptable, disable VSync and try a stable frame-rate cap or the display’s synchronization feature.
The game is slow or choppy
- Lower resolution.
- In WoW Classic, reduce FarClip, World Detail and Animation in that order.
- In original Diablo II, set Lighting Quality to Low, turn Blended Shadows off and turn Perspective off.
- In Diablo II: Resurrected, test the three Legacy modes and lower PC VFX quality if effects trigger drops.
- Only after these changes, test a frame-rate cap or synchronization option.
Text or item names are hard to read
- Increase the game’s font size where available.
- Apply Windows UI scaling on PC if the entire interface is too small.
- Adjust gamma or contrast for dark or low-contrast scenes.
- Check a busy inventory and a dark outdoor area before keeping the new values.
A hotkey does nothing
- Confirm that the command is not one of StarCraft: Remastered’s fixed F-key or control-group functions.
- Look for a duplicate assignment in the hotkey screen.
- Test the key with the intended keyboard layout and controller profile active.
- Restart the game after saving if the interface does not immediately reflect the change.
Audio feedback is masked
- Raise voices, UI cues, footsteps or combat impacts individually.
- Lower ambience and effects that compete with the needed channel.
- Retest in a menu, conversation and combat encounter rather than judging from the title screen.
Recommended setups for common players
Competitive real-time-strategy player
Use a consistent keyboard layout, keep StarCraft’s fixed control groups in your muscle memory, disable F1 Help if it causes interruptions, and test VSync against input latency before committing to it. In Warcraft III: Reforged, build the hotkey layout in the 2.0 customization screen and verify hero, item and production commands in a short match.
Recommended Free Tools
Player on older PC hardware
Begin with resolution and the game’s largest visual costs. Original Diablo II’s Low lighting, disabled blended shadows and disabled perspective are the manual’s fastest combination. For WoW Classic, reduce resolution, FarClip, World Detail and Animation before capping the frame rate. In Diablo II: Resurrected, compare Legacy emulation modes rather than assuming the newest-looking mode is fastest.
Player with low vision
Increase font size and Windows UI scaling where applicable, then tune gamma and contrast separately. Enable miss text in Diablo II: Resurrected and adjust audio channels so voices, UI cues and combat impacts remain distinct. Check the result in the darkest and busiest environments you regularly play.
One-handed or alternative-input player
Use Diablo II: Resurrected’s twelve mouse-and-keyboard bindable actions or its heavily modifiable controller layout to keep movement, Interact and defensive skills within easy reach. Test alternate analog-stick assignments and the platform’s own remapping tools, then confirm that the game profile remains active after changing input devices.
Keep the configuration maintainable
Record your working values after every major change. Note the game edition, patch, display resolution, synchronization state and control profile. When a patch changes a menu or resets bindings, restore the known-good layout first, then make one adjustment at a time.
