Configure claim capacity per player role in serverconfig.json, under the roles section. The relevant keys are LandClaimAllowance (total claim volume), LandClaimMinSize (minimum X/Y/Z dimensions), and LandClaimMaxAreas (maximum number of separate, non-adjacent areas). To enable or disable the system for an existing world, use /worldconfig allowLandClaiming true or /worldconfig allowLandClaiming false. Stop a hosted server before editing its configuration, save the file, and restart it. Defaults can vary by Vintage Story version, so inspect the live file rather than assuming a value.

What you can configure
Vintage Story separates land-claim controls into two levels:

- Role limits: values in
serverconfig.jsondetermine how much land a role may claim, the smallest permitted cuboid, and how many separate areas it may create. - World availability: the
allowLandClaimingworld setting determines whether players are allowed to use the claiming system at all.
This distinction matters. Increasing a role’s allowance does not turn claiming on if the world setting is false, and changing the world setting does not change the amount granted to each role.
Role settings in serverconfig.json
Open the server’s serverconfig.json and find the roles section. Each role entry has its own claim values. Edit the role or roles whose players need different limits; changing one role does not automatically change another.

| Key | Controls | Default or documented value |
|---|---|---|
LandClaimAllowance |
Total claimable volume for the role, measured in cubic metres | Four chunks: 4 × 32 × 32 × 32 = 131,072 m³, as calculated from the hosting-guide default |
LandClaimMinSize |
Minimum dimensions of a claim cuboid, expressed as X × Y × Z | Conflicting documentation lists either 5 × 5 × 5 or 6 × 6 × 6; verify the value in the live file |
LandClaimMaxAreas |
Maximum number of non-adjacent claim areas for the role | 3 |
LandClaimAllowance is a volume budget, not a simple “number of blocks” displayed on a map. A cuboid’s volume is its X dimension multiplied by its Y dimension multiplied by its Z dimension. For example, a 16 × 16 × 16 cuboid uses 4,096 m³ of allowance. The documented four-chunk default is 131,072 m³ because a chunk is treated as 32 × 32 × 32 blocks for this calculation.
LandClaimMaxAreas concerns separate areas. A player can use the allowance in one contiguous region or divide it among non-adjacent regions, subject to this count and the remaining volume. Raising the area count does not add volume; it only permits more separate areas when enough allowance remains.
The minimum-size setting applies to each cuboid’s X, Y and Z dimensions. Because published guides disagree about whether the default is 5 × 5 × 5 or 6 × 6 × 6, treat the number as version- and configuration-dependent. Read the value currently shown in your server file before documenting or promising a minimum.
How to edit a hosted server
The control-panel workflow described by hosting providers is consistent. Use it whenever you are changing role limits through the file.

- Stop the server. In the hosting control panel, use the Stop command and wait until the server is fully offline. Editing while the process is running risks having unsaved settings overwritten when it shuts down.
- Open the server files. Navigate to
server_data > serverconfig.json. Some panels present the same file through a “Server Config” or similar configuration tab instead of a file browser; the field names remain the same. - Locate the Roles section. Scroll to
roles, then identify the role entry you intend to change. Do not place role keys in the world-configuration section; they belong to the role object. - Edit only the needed values. Set
LandClaimAllowance,LandClaimMinSizeand/orLandClaimMaxAreasfor that role. Preserve the existing JSON punctuation, quotation marks and nesting. - Save the file. If the panel has both an editor Save button and a separate Apply button, use both as required by that panel.
- Start the server. Restart the instance and wait for it to finish loading before testing a claim.
- Test with a player in the edited role. Try a claim that meets the configured minimum dimensions, then check whether the allowance and area count behave as intended. Test with a non-adjacent second or third area if you changed
LandClaimMaxAreas.
Make a backup copy of serverconfig.json before editing. If the server refuses to start after a change, restore the backup first; a malformed JSON edit is more likely to prevent loading than an incorrect numeric value.
Editing a local or self-hosted installation
The same settings apply when you run the server yourself. Stop the Vintage Story server process, open its active serverconfig.json, edit the appropriate role object, save, and restart. The important detail is using the file belonging to the server instance and world you actually launch; editing a duplicate installation or an unused copy will have no effect.
Keep a record of the old and new numbers. This makes it easier to identify whether a later problem came from the claim settings or from a different server change. After restarting, confirm the role assignment and test from a player account that has that role rather than relying only on an administrator account.
Turning land claiming on or off
The world-level switch is allowLandClaiming. The official World Configuration reference describes it as whether players are allowed to use the land-claiming system, with a default of true. Use the in-game command:

/worldconfig allowLandClaiming true
/worldconfig allowLandClaiming false
Use true to permit claiming and false to disable it. The command is the appropriate method for an existing world. The wiki notes that world configuration values in serverconfig.json are set there only before a world is created; changing that file after the world already exists is not the supported way to alter the existing world’s world settings.
Run the command with the permissions required by your server account. If the command is rejected, check the in-game help for the exact syntax and your account’s administrative privileges. After changing the value, attempt a small legal claim with a regular player to verify the result.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsChoosing practical values for each role
Set volume first
Decide how much total protected space a role should receive, then enter that amount as LandClaimAllowance. Think in cubic metres: doubling one dimension doubles the volume consumed by a cuboid, while doubling all three dimensions multiplies consumption by eight. A role with 131,072 m³ can allocate that budget in many shapes, but the allowance does not guarantee that every shape will fit if a proposed claim exceeds the remaining volume.
Use the minimum size to prevent tiny claims
LandClaimMinSize defines the smallest X, Y and Z dimensions accepted for a claim cuboid. Larger values discourage one-block or very narrow reservations; smaller values allow finer-grained protection. Because the documented default conflicts, inspect your own file and communicate the actual value to players.

Use area count for separated bases
Set LandClaimMaxAreas according to whether players should be able to protect multiple distant bases, outposts or resource sites. The cited default is three non-adjacent areas. Increasing this number without increasing allowance can leave players with more slots but no remaining volume, so treat the two settings as separate limits that interact in practice.

The four-chunk allowance calculation is arithmetic based on the guide’s stated default: 4 × 32 × 32 × 32 equals 131,072 cubic metres. It is not a published gameplay statistic or an independent benchmark. If your installed version displays a different value, use the installed configuration as authoritative for your server.
Minimum-size documentation is inconsistent: one BisectHosting guide reports 5 × 5 × 5, while a separate BisectHosting commands guide reports 6 × 6 × 6. Do not silently choose one number when writing server rules. Check the live serverconfig.json, then validate it with an actual claim attempt.
The official World Configuration page was last verified for Vintage Story 1.21.6. Releases newer than that may alter defaults, command behavior or configuration names. Before upgrading, compare the new version’s in-game help and changelog with your saved settings, and recheck the generated configuration after the first launch.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Troubleshooting common configuration problems
Players cannot claim anywhere
- Run
/worldconfig allowLandClaimingwith the value explicitly set totrue. - Confirm the command was issued in the intended world and by an account with permission to change world settings.
- Restart only if your host requires it for the command to take effect, then test with a normal player account.
A larger allowance appears to have no effect
- Verify that you edited the role the player actually has, not a similarly named role.
- Check that the file was saved in
server_data > serverconfig.json(or the panel’s corresponding server-config form). - Stop and restart the server after saving; role values are read from the server configuration at startup.
- Remember that allowance is volume. A claim can still fail if its cuboid exceeds the remaining cubic-metre budget or violates the minimum dimensions.
A second area is rejected
- Check
LandClaimMaxAreasfor the player’s role; the cited default is three. - Determine whether the proposed area is non-adjacent and therefore counts as another area under the role’s limit.
- Check the remaining
LandClaimAllowance; an unused area slot does not create additional volume.
The server fails to start after editing
- Restore the backup of
serverconfig.jsonto return to the last known-good file. - Inspect commas, braces, quotes and numeric values around the edited role entry.
- Start the server, then make one change at a time so the problematic edit can be isolated.
The minimum-size result differs from documentation
Use the value in the running server’s configuration and a controlled claim test. The two published defaults (5 × 5 × 5 and 6 × 6 × 6) cannot both describe every installation, and the official configuration reference is verified only through version 1.21.6.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
A safe change-and-test checklist
- Record the server version and whether the world already exists.
- Back up
serverconfig.json. - Stop the server before file edits.
- Change role limits only inside the relevant
rolesentry. - Use
/worldconfig allowLandClaiming true|falsefor an existing world’s on/off state. - Restart after saving role settings.
- Test with the affected role: one minimum-size claim, one claim using a known volume, and additional non-adjacent areas when applicable.
- Recheck settings after a game-version upgrade.
Configuration examples
The following illustrates the shape of the values, not a universal replacement for your server’s existing role object. Keep all other keys already present in that object.
{
"roles": {
"player": {
"LandClaimAllowance": 131072,
"LandClaimMinSize": 5,
"LandClaimMaxAreas": 3
}
}
}
In this example, LandClaimMinSize is shown as a single illustrative value only. Your installation may use a different default, and the conflicting documentation means you should copy the value you have verified rather than blindly applying 5. If your file represents the minimum as a dimension object or another format, preserve that format and edit the existing fields instead of replacing the role block with this simplified illustration.
Version and administration notes
Claim defaults and command names are volatile across Vintage Story versions. The official configuration page’s 1.21.6 verification date is a useful reference point, not a guarantee for later releases. After updating, open the server’s generated configuration, compare the three role keys and the world setting, and use the current in-game help for command syntax.
Keep role limits documented for your community: state the allowance in cubic metres, the minimum X/Y/Z dimensions, the number of separate areas, and whether claiming is enabled in the current world. This prevents players from confusing a role limit with a world-wide switch and gives administrators a precise checklist when diagnosing a rejected claim.
