The most reliable way to get PS5 audio to speakers is through HDMI: connect the console to a TV or compatible sound system, then route sound from that device to the speakers. Ordinary Bluetooth speakers cannot pair directly with a PS5. For wired speakers, the TV or an audio receiver usually needs to provide a compatible output.
How PS5 audio connections work
The PS5 sends audio through its HDMI OUT port to a TV or compatible sound system. PlayStation confirms that players can use HDMI OUT to connect to a TV or sound system: PlayStation PS5 audio output settings. Your next connection depends on the ports and audio-routing options on the TV, soundbar, receiver, or powered speakers.
Connect a soundbar or AV receiver with HDMI
Use one of these arrangements, depending on your equipment: connect the PS5 to the soundbar or receiver, then connect that device to the TV; or connect the PS5 to the TV and have the TV route audio to the sound system. Which arrangement works—and whether it supports the video and audio formats you want—depends on the devices and their settings. Check the relevant manuals rather than assuming every HDMI, ARC, or eARC port behaves the same way.
- Connect the PS5 HDMI OUT port to an HDMI input on the soundbar, receiver, or TV, as appropriate for your setup.
- Connect the soundbar or receiver to the TV if your chosen arrangement requires it.
- On the PS5, open Settings > Sound > Audio Output. Choose the output device and HDMI device type that match the connected equipment.
- If you select AV amplifier as the HDMI device type, set the channel count and speaker positions to match your system.
- Select the correct input on the TV, soundbar, or receiver.

Connect wired powered speakers
For speakers with an analog or other non-HDMI connection, the practical route is usually through the TV or an audio receiver: send audio and video from the PS5 over HDMI, then connect the speakers to a compatible output on that device. The PS5 support material identifies HDMI OUT and USB ports, but does not document a general analog speaker output. Do not assume a cable or converter will work without checking the ports and manuals for the PS5, display, and speakers. PlayStation’s PS5 setup guide shows the console’s connections.
Can you connect Bluetooth speakers directly to a PS5?
No. PlayStation’s Bluetooth-audio error guidance states that a Bluetooth audio device is not compatible with PS5 consoles: PS5 Bluetooth audio error guidance. Do not expect ordinary Bluetooth pairing from the console to work.

Wireless audio may still be possible through a TV with compatible Bluetooth audio support or a transmitter connected to an audio output. That is a separate connection handled by the TV or transmitter, not native PS5 Bluetooth pairing. Compatibility and possible audio delay vary by equipment, so confirm the exact devices and their manuals before relying on this route.

- On the PS5, open Settings > Sound > Audio Output. Select the intended output device and confirm the HDMI device type.
- Check that the TV or display is set to the HDMI input receiving the PS5.
- For troubleshooting, connect the PS5 directly to the display and temporarily remove other audio or video devices from the chain.
- Try a different HDMI cable and a different HDMI input on the display.
- Check the TV, receiver, and soundbar manuals for input selection, audio routing, and any firmware requirements.
