To copy an uncopylocked Roblox experience, open its details page, confirm the About tab says “This experience’s source can be copied,” then select the three-dot menu, choose Edit, and save it from Roblox Studio. Use File > Save As for a local editable copy or File > Publish to Roblox As to upload a copy. Copy access is not blanket permission to republish someone else’s work.
Copy a copy-enabled Roblox experience
- Open the experience’s details page on Roblox.
- Select the About tab and look for the notice “This experience’s source can be copied.” If it is not there, Roblox’s documented copy flow is unavailable for that experience.
- Click the three-dot menu near the experience title and select Edit. Roblox Studio should open the experience. See Roblox’s instructions for copying an experience.
- In Studio, choose the save option that matches what you need:

Copying access is not permission to claim or republish the work
The copy notice enables the documented Studio workflow; it does not transfer ownership of the experience or grant blanket rights to republish its contents. Roblox Support recommends asking the creator before publishing a copied experience. Roblox’s Terms of Use say: “Unless Creator has express written permission or a written license from the content creator to do so, Creator must not copy or make any modification to someone else’s item, content, or UGC and Publish it as Creator’s own content.”
Why an experience may not be copyable
The creator has not enabled copying
Roblox says private and public experiences are locked by default so only the owner or group can edit their place files. If the About tab lacks the copy notice, use another experience or ask its creator; the documented workflow does not provide a way to bypass the setting. The experience uses Paid Access
Roblox says Paid Access experiences cannot be copied, including if copying was allowed previously. The documented guidance offers no supported workaround. Details are in Roblox Support’s Paid Access article.

Allow copying on an experience you own
- Open Creator Dashboard and select the game.
- Go to Configure > Places, then select the start place.
- Open Permissions, enable Allow users to download a copy of this Place, and save.
- Others can then open the game’s main page and use the three-dot menu to choose Edit in Studio, according to the Creator Hub instructions.
Roblox describes the setting as allowing others to use an experience as a template; disabling it prevents direct copying of what you made. More detail is available in Roblox Support’s explanation of disallowing copying.
