If you mean a character that behaves like a bot inside a Roblox game you are making, build an NPC in Roblox Studio with a model and Luau scripts. If you mean automating a Roblox player account or having a third-party tool play for you, Roblox policy prohibits disruptive automation and restricts apps that perform gameplay actions on users’ behalf.
Choose the right kind of Roblox bot
“Bot” can mean two very different things in Roblox:
- An NPC in your own experience: a character whose behavior you create with scripts. Roblox provides Studio resources for adding and customizing NPCs; this is the supported how-to path here.
- An automated player account or gameplay tool: a bot that moves, farms, or otherwise plays for a user. Roblox’s policies set limits on this kind of automation, so this guide does not cover building or operating one.
Create an NPC in Roblox Studio
1. Add a starting model
Open Roblox Studio and add an NPC kit from the Studio Toolbox. Roblox’s NPC kit guide explains how to choose a kit, find it in your Toolbox inventory, and add it to a place. Kits can be customized. You can also make a simpler custom character model; Roblox describes a common starting point as a Model containing a mesh or two and a Humanoid.
2. Check the model and its scripts
A typical NPC has a Humanoid, which provides character-related behavior, and scripts that determine what it does—for example, whether it roams or attacks. Inspect the kit before changing it so you understand which scripts already control behavior, and test changes in your own experience.

3. Write behavior in Luau
Roblox creators use Luau to script experiences. Use scripts to define the NPC’s decisions and actions, keeping that behavior within the game you are developing. The right logic depends on the character and intended behavior; a roaming NPC and a stationary shopkeeper need different rules.
Make the NPC navigate around obstacles
For movement through a map with walls or other obstacles, use PathfindingService. The basic approach is to create a path from the NPC’s current position to a destination, compute it, and move the Humanoid through its waypoints.

- Choose path agent settings that fit the NPC, including its radius, height, whether it can jump, and waypoint spacing.
- Call
PathfindingService:CreatePath()with suitable agent parameters, then compute a route from the NPC to its destination. - Move the Humanoid along the returned waypoints, handling jump actions where the route requires them.
- Listen for the path becoming blocked. If the route is blocked, recompute it rather than assuming the NPC can keep following the old waypoints.
Roblox’s pathfinding documentation covers path visualization and navigation modifiers in Studio. Inspect the route in the actual map and adjust the geometry or agent settings if a route cannot be computed or followed. A path that works for one rig or map is not guaranteed to work for another: model size, obstacles, and map layout affect the result.

Roblox’s Community Standards prohibit “Using bots or other automation that is programmed to run disruptive tasks.” Its Creator Third Party App Policy lists “Executing automated in game actions such as movements” among prohibited actions by third-party apps on behalf of users. Roblox’s Terms of Use also say to access APIs only through documented means and not misrepresent or mask the identity of the user or API client.

Those policy statements concern disruptive automation, third-party apps automating user gameplay, and API use. They do not categorically prohibit a creator from scripting an NPC inside their own experience. Keep your work on the NPC side of that line; do not use it to automate player accounts or evade Roblox’s rules.
