Open the Skater menu, marked with a skateboard-and-pencil icon. Choose Appearance to edit your skater, or Apparel and Accessories to change what they wear. EA says you can make these changes at any time.
Where to find character customization
- Open the Skater menu, identified by its skateboard-and-pencil icon.
- Select Appearance to adjust your skater’s look, or open Apparel and Accessories to browse wearable items.
- Choose and apply the available options in the category you want. EA does not specify a platform-specific controller button sequence for opening this menu, so use the on-screen menu navigation.
EA’s help page says skater edits can be made at any time. The available inventory may change with game updates and seasons.

What you can customize
Appearance
Appearance is the category for changing the skater itself. EA’s May 2024 developer article described options such as body height, shape, and features. That article documents design details from that date; it does not guarantee that every option remains available in the same form now.
Apparel and accessories
Use Apparel and Accessories for clothing and wearable items. EA describes customization broadly to include hats, clothes, footwear, and accessories. Its 2024 article also named wardrobe categories such as tops, pants, headwear, eyewear, footwear, and socks; treat those as examples rather than a complete, current catalog.

Board cosmetics are separate
The Board option is also in the Skater menu, but it changes the skateboard rather than your character’s appearance. EA lists deck, grip tape, wheels, trucks, and stickers among the board-customization options.
Do you have to unlock or buy cosmetics?
EA describes the base game as a free download with optional in-game purchases of virtual currency for virtual items. A developer FAQ also said players could customize skaters immediately and earn further cosmetics through gameplay, while a developer statement described earning currency and rewards through play without spending money. Those statements are historical guidance, not a guarantee about the access conditions for every item today.

Season content can have specific availability and reward conditions. For example, EA’s Season 3 page announced tattoos and styles associated with Jenkem, HUF, Dime, Vans, adidas, and Thrasher. Those were season-related examples, not proof that those items are currently in the store or obtainable in the same way. Check the item’s current details in-game before expecting to unlock or purchase it.
Appearance changes versus control settings
If by “customize my character” you mean changing how skating feels, use Gameplay > Controls instead. EA documents the Streamlined, Classic, and Experienced control presets, with individual adjustments under Gameplay > Controls. These settings change gameplay controls; they do not alter your skater’s appearance.
