You can personalize your Xbox Series X|S Home screen by changing its background and colors, pinning games and groups, and organizing what appears near the top. Xbox’s April 30, 2026 update confirms support for up to ten Home groups and custom colors. Some decluttering options, however, were announced as Xbox Insider features in 2025 and are not confirmed here as available to everyone.

Change the Home screen’s look

Choose a background

Xbox Home can display a personalized background, including an option to match the background to the recently played game you highlight. Series X|S also supports dynamic backgrounds. Xbox’s July 2023 Home redesign was intended to make more of the player’s background visible while moving recently played games and other content lower on the screen. See Xbox’s July 2023 Home redesign announcement.

Background choices and detailed setup steps can depend on the console interface and available options. Check the personalization controls on your console; the official background support page does not provide readable step-by-step instructions in the source available for this guide.

Use a dynamic background

Dynamic backgrounds are supported on Xbox Series X|S. Xbox’s April 30, 2026 update named Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred, Invincible VS, Kiln, and Overwatch as recent examples. That list is not presented as a complete catalog. Xbox One is not included in this Series X|S dynamic-background feature description.

Set a custom color

  1. Open Settings > General > Personalization > Customize the guide.
  2. Use the sliders to choose a hue and shade for your custom color.
  3. To remove the subtle color accent in the Guide, turn it off in the same area.

Xbox says your last custom color remains saved when you switch back to a system color. These custom-color controls were announced in the April 30, 2026 Xbox update: Xbox’s April 2026 update.

Pin games and organize Home with groups

Groups let you keep favorite games and curated selections together on Home. Xbox also supports system groups, including Quick Resume. As of the April 30, 2026 update, you can add up to ten groups to Home, up from two previously.

Xbox says group pinning can be managed in My Games & Apps. The update also made pinning and reordering easier and added clearer indicators to show which groups are already on Home. It does not specify a complete controller-button sequence, so use the on-screen prompts on your console rather than relying on an assumed button path.

Can you hide system apps or pin recent games separately?

Xbox’s May 2025 announcement described an Insider rollout for hiding system apps and pinning up to three recently played games or apps on Home. The initial rollout was for Alpha Skip-Ahead and Alpha Insiders, with an update posted May 22. The announcement does not establish that these controls are now available to every Xbox player, so check the Home or personalization settings on your console for their current availability. The historical rollout details are in Xbox’s May 2025 Insider announcement.
