To defeat Orin in Baldur’s Gate 3, burn through her Unstoppable charges with attacks that hit several times, then stop the Reapers from chanting so they cannot renew her protection. Keep the kidnapped companion’s safety in mind before and during the fight. Dark Urge players also face a choice: accept Orin’s one-on-one duel or turn the encounter into a standard party battle.
Before the fight, account for the hostage
The encounter takes place in the Temple of Bhaal in Act III. Dialogue choices can have permanent consequences: Orin may kill her captive if you choose certain dismissive responses, fail a check, or, as the Dark Urge, refuse her duel. According to the BG3 Wiki’s Bhaal Temple encounter guide, a companion who dies on the altar or during the ensuing fight cannot be resurrected. Treat the hostage’s survival as part of your objective, not as a concern to handle after Orin is defeated.

Standard party fight
Use this plan if you are not playing the Dark Urge, refuse the duel, or interrupt an accepted duel. Your two priorities are to remove Orin’s Unstoppable charges and disrupt the Reapers sustaining the Boon of Bhaal.

Dark Urge one-on-one duel
If you accept Orin’s challenge as the Dark Urge, the encounter is intended to be a duel. Keep your companions outside the marked ring: if another party member crosses it, the duel is interrupted and normal combat continues. Refusing the duel also leads to the standard party encounter, but the wiki warns that Orin kills the hostage in that branch.
If you acquired the Slayer form before Act III, you can choose to transform during the pre-duel conversation. The wiki describes this as an optional path in which Orin fights in her humanoid form; it is not required to win.

How to break Orin’s Unstoppable protection
Unstoppable absorbs damage by consuming charges, so a single large hit is often a poor opening while the condition remains. Prefer attacks or spells that land several hits: each hit can remove a charge, letting you get through the protection faster. The BG3 Guides walkthrough lists Magic Missile, Scorching Ray, Eldritch Blast, fighter multi-attacks, and a Monk’s Flurry as examples. Their usefulness depends on your build and the game’s current mechanics; choose the multi-hit options your party can reliably land.
Do not assume one charge count applies to every difficulty or version. Larian’s Patch 4 notes say Unstoppable’s maximum changed from 10 to 12. The community-maintained wiki describes 7 charges on Explorer and Balanced, and 12 on Tactician and above when the Boon renews the condition. Those are different scopes: the patch note gives a maximum, while the wiki reports difficulty-specific charges associated with renewal. The useful tactical point is to deal with the source of that renewal rather than plan around a number as if it were universal.

Stop the Reapers from renewing the protection
The Reapers’ chanting activates the Boon of Bhaal, which renews Orin’s Unstoppable condition. Assign party members to interrupt the chanters or remove them from the fight, while others focus on Orin. Area attacks and ranged attacks can help clear cultists, according to the BG3 Guides walkthrough. Once the chanting is no longer sustaining the boon, your multi-hit attacks can make progress without the same cycle of renewed protection.
If Orin’s mechanics behave differently than expected, consider the game’s patch history. Larian’s final patch notes document fixes to her Immutable Form passive in Slayer Form and to the timing of the Boon of Bhaal when Orin is surprised. Older advice about exact timing or action-by-action sequences may not reflect the current behavior.

Position carefully around the temple’s chasm
The arena has a chasm that can kill a character who is shoved over the edge. Avoid leaving vulnerable party members where they can be pushed into it; walls and pillars offer safer positions, as recommended by BG3 Guides. This is especially important when splitting your attention between Orin and the chanting cultists.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Keep characters away from exposed edges when possible.
- Use cover and solid terrain to reduce the chance that a shove ends a character’s turn—and life—immediately.
- Before committing to a risky move, check where the target will land if it is pushed.
A practical priority order
- Protect the captive. Make dialogue choices with the possible execution outcome in mind.
- Commit to the intended encounter. In a Dark Urge duel, keep companions outside the marked ring unless you want to switch to a party fight.
- Spend multi-hit attacks on Unstoppable. Use the attacks your party can land reliably to remove charges.
- Disrupt the Reapers. Stop their chanting so the Boon of Bhaal cannot keep renewing Orin’s protection.
- Mind the chasm. Keep your characters out of positions where a shove can send them over the edge.
These priorities are more reliable than following a fixed turn-by-turn script: party composition, difficulty, encounter branch, and patch behavior can all affect how the fight unfolds.
