To defeat the Matriarch in ARC Raiders, enter the Matriarch map condition with a coordinated squad, high-penetration weapons and ample ammunition. Target the knee joints, fight from cover or elevated ground, and reposition around gas mortars and summoned ARC units. The detailed tactics below come from a November 2025 guide; Embark’s preview of the October 8, 2026 Frozen Trail update does not confirm whether Matriarch mechanics changed, so check current in-game behavior.
Find the Matriarch map condition
Embark introduced the Matriarch in the North Line update as a powerful ARC machine encountered during a specific map condition. Check the map condition before deploying: the event is not guaranteed to be active on a particular map or at a particular time.

Prepare your weapons, ammunition and squad
Choose weapons for penetration and flexibility
The 2025 guide recommends the Jupiter, Hullcracker or Bettina as high-penetration options. It does not provide a controlled comparison or current patch measurements, so treat these as suggestions rather than a definitive ranking. Consider whether your loadout can also deal with the ARC enemies the Matriarch summons.
Bring enough ammunition
Plan for sustained fire against the boss and extra ammunition for summoned enemies. The guide stresses carrying plenty, but does not establish a precise amount for a current build.

Coordinate with other players
Bring a squad and agree on how to handle the boss and any adds before the fight. Other players may also be present, and cooperation across squads is not guaranteed. In a February 2026 interview, Embark design lead Virgil Watkins described the intended encounter scale as “a couple of dedicated squads, maybe, working together while also dealing with other players.” That points to a contested raid activity, not an assurance that the lobby will cooperate or that rewards will be shared equally.
Fight from cover and target the knee joints
The guide identifies the Matriarch’s knee joints as a damage target. It does not publish a tested comparison showing how much more damage they take, so use them as the guide’s recommended aim point rather than a quantified weak-point claim.

Use elevated positions and cover to reduce exposure to the Matriarch’s cannons. The guide also suggests Barricade Kits for additional protection. Keep enough space and a route to move if the boss’s attacks or other threats make your position unsafe.
Manage gas, summoned ARC units and the energy dome
Do not stay in gas mortar zones
The guide advises waiting for gas mortars to expire rather than pushing through their zones. Leave room to reposition when hazards appear; avoid committing your whole squad to a spot with no safe way out.

Account for summoned enemies
The guide reports that the Matriarch may summon Bastions, Bombardiers, Leapers, Rocketeers, Wasps and Hornets. Keep ammunition available for these threats, and coordinate whether to clear them or maintain pressure on the boss based on what is happening in the fight.
Treat the dome as a positioning phase
According to the 2025 guide, the energy dome blocks projectiles for a time while exposing weak points that players inside it can attack. Use that as a tactical cue to reassess your position, but verify the dome’s behavior in your current build; the guide does not establish precise timing or confirm how the mechanic works after the October 8, 2026 update.

Check current mechanics and rewards in game
Embark’s August 12, 2026 preview said the Frozen Trail update would arrive October 8, 2026, with a new map and high-level cooperative ARC activity. The preview does not specify changes to the Matriarch’s mechanics, event locations, weapon effectiveness or loot. Consequently, the locations and tactics above are useful starting points from an older guide, not confirmation of the live post-update encounter.
The November 2025 guide lists a Matriarch Reactor, a possible Aphelion blueprint, a Magnetic Accelerator and other ARC materials among the rewards, and says the Reactor can be used to craft Aphelion. Those drops and recipes have not been established here as current. Check the in-game reward and crafting information before planning a run around them.
