Change the server setting
This procedure is for Minecraft Java Edition servers. The setting is in the server’s server.properties file; some hosting dashboards expose the same option in a control-panel setting.

- Stop the server.
- Open
server.properties. - Find
enforce-secure-profile=trueand change it toenforce-secure-profile=false. - Save the file, then start the server again.
The change takes effect after the restart. If the file already contains enforce-secure-profile=false, the setting is already disabled. If you use a hosting panel rather than editing the file, look for the equivalent secure-profile enforcement option; the exact panel label and location depend on the host.
What the setting changes
enforce-secure-profile controls whether the server requires players to present a Mojang-signed public key. With the setting enabled, players whose key is missing, invalid, expired, or badly signed are rejected. Disabling enforcement allows players without a verified key to join.
#1 Best Overall
| Value | Effect on joining | Reporting implication |
|---|---|---|
true |
Players without an acceptable Mojang-signed key cannot join. | Chat reporting relies on verified keys; enforcement limits play to players with them. |
false |
Players without a verified key can join. | Messages from unverified players cannot be reported to Mojang. |
The option is therefore not a universal off switch for chat reporting. It removes the server’s requirement for verified keys, which changes who can join and whether their messages are reportable. The available information does not establish whether a signed player’s report button disappears when enforcement is disabled.
Decide whether disabling enforcement fits your server
When access matters more
Turning enforcement off may suit a server that needs to admit players who do not have verified keys. The tradeoff is that those players’ messages cannot be reported to Mojang through the signed-message reporting path.

Leave the value at true if the server should reject players whose signed public keys are missing or invalid. This is the default value described for the setting, though the exact default history around Minecraft 1.19.1 is not fully settled by the available sources.
Custom chat systems
Some custom chat plugins send messages using the System Chat Message packet. Those unsigned messages cannot be reported, even though the server’s setting may still require signed player profiles. Disabling profile enforcement does not make unsigned plugin messages reportable.

- The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
- UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
- Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
- The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
- Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.
Version and default-value context
The setting’s default is described as true. Community sources differ in how they characterize the transition around Minecraft 1.19.1: one says it has been true from 1.19.1 onward, while another describes it as false in the 1.19.1 pre-release. The most consistent reading is that the pre-release used false and the final 1.19.1 release used true, but that version-specific history is not firmly confirmed here.
For an existing server, check the value actually present in server.properties rather than relying on an assumption about the version’s original default. This is especially useful if the file has been carried forward or edited by a host panel.

Limits and unresolved behavior
- Messages from players without verified keys cannot be reported to Mojang.
- Unsigned messages sent by custom chat plugins cannot be reported.
- It is not established whether disabling enforcement removes the client-side report button for players whose messages are signed.
- This guidance covers Java Edition. Bedrock Edition behavior has not been established here.
About third-party alternatives
A Modrinth mod called No Chat Reports exists, but its compatibility and behavior have not been verified here. The server-property change above is the documented configuration approach covered in this guide; do not assume a mod is compatible with a particular server version or setup without checking its own current compatibility information.
