To remove promoted apps from the classic Windows 10 Share pane, open any Share dialog, right-click an empty area, and clear Show app suggestions. Close and reopen the dialog to verify that the Store-app installation entries have disappeared; your installed sharing apps remain available.
If you mean suggestions in the taskbar’s My People hub rather than the file or link Share dialog, use Settings > Personalization > Taskbar and switch off Show My People app suggestions. These are separate controls, so changing one does not change the other.

How do I turn off “Show app suggestions” in the Windows 10 Share pane?
The setting is available from the Share dialog itself. It is not in Windows 10 Privacy settings and does not require uninstalling the suggested apps.
- Start a share action from an app or from File Explorer. For example, select a file, open its Share command, or use an app’s command for sharing a link or document.
- Wait for the classic Windows 10 Share dialog to appear.
- Right-click an empty area inside the dialog, away from an app tile or command.
- Clear Show app suggestions.
- Close the Share dialog, start the share action again, and confirm that the promotional Store entries are gone.
The remaining entries are the normal share targets already installed and registered for that kind of content. Clearing the checkbox hides the promotional suggestions; it does not disable sharing or remove an installed app.

What are the suggested apps Windows 10 places in Share?
Windows 10’s refreshed Share experience, introduced with the Creators Update, combines ordinary share targets with promotions for Store apps that are not installed. A promoted tile can show an Install label and take you to the Store instead of immediately sending the file or link.
Microsoft described these as promoted apps and said they are selected according to popularity in the user’s region. That means two computers can show different suggestions even when they run the same Windows 10 release. The suggestions are advertising-like recommendations inside the sharing surface, not evidence that an app is required to complete the share.

Why can’t I find “Show app suggestions”?
The checkbox is not guaranteed to appear in every Windows 10 build or every application that invokes sharing. Windows 10 sharing behavior can vary by installed build and by whether the app opens the classic system Share dialog or supplies its own sharing interface.
Check that you opened the system dialog
Try sharing a file from File Explorer or another application that uses the classic Windows 10 Share surface. A custom in-app share window may not expose the system context menu, so right-clicking there will not reveal the setting.
Right-click an unused part of the dialog
The command is attached to the dialog background. Right-clicking an app tile, an icon, or the selected file may open a different menu or do nothing. Resize or reposition the window if necessary so a blank area is visible, then try again.

Allow for build differences
Some later Windows 10 builds or individual apps may omit the option. There is no documented Windows 10 replacement switch that universally restores the checkbox. If the control is absent, you can still distinguish promotional tiles from installed share targets, but the documented per-dialog toggle may not be available on that system.
How do I turn off suggestions in the Windows 10 My People hub?
My People suggestions belong to the taskbar People hub, not the classic file and link Share dialog. To disable them, open Settings > Personalization > Taskbar, find Show My People app suggestions, and turn it off.
This setting affects recommendations shown when you open the People area on the taskbar. It does not hide Store promotions in a Share dialog, so use the right-click method in the earlier section for those.
Registry alternative for My People
If the Taskbar page does not expose the switch, the documented registry alternative is under the current user account:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionContentDeliveryManager
Set the DWORD value SubscribedContent-314563Enabled to 0. Registry edits affect the signed-in user, not every account on the computer. Create a backup or export the key before editing, and sign out or restart the shell if the taskbar does not update immediately.

My People was no longer being developed in Windows 10 version 1909 and later, according to TenForums’ documentation. Consequently, the option or the hub itself may be absent on newer Windows 10 installations; absence does not indicate that the classic Share-pane setting has been applied.
Are Windows 10 Privacy settings the same as Share suggestions?
No. Windows 10 places several personalization controls under Settings > Privacy > General, including Show me suggested content in the Settings app and Let Windows track app launches to improve Start and search results. Those options govern suggestions in Settings or personalization of Start and Search.
Microsoft does not document either Privacy switch as a control for app promotions in the Share dialog. Changing them can alter other recommendations while leaving the Share-pane tiles untouched.
What is the difference between the three suggestion surfaces?
Use the surface that matches what you see. The controls have different scopes and, in one case, different operating-system applicability.

Can I use DisableShareAppPromotions on Windows 10?
Do not treat DisableShareAppPromotions as a Windows 10 fix. Microsoft’s official applicability table lists the policy for Windows 11 version 24H2 and later: a value of 1 disables promotional apps, while 0 leaves them enabled.

Some third-party management documentation describes an “Windows 10 and later” platform selection, but that broader wording conflicts with Microsoft’s applicability table. For a Windows 10 computer, use the Share dialog’s checkbox when it is present. Do not deploy the Windows 11 policy expecting it to control the Windows 10 Share experience.
What should I do after changing the setting?
Test the exact surface that bothered you. A setting can appear successful while you are checking a different interface.
- For Share promotions, reopen the same type of Share dialog and look for the disappearance of Store tiles or Install labels.
- For My People, open the taskbar People hub and check that its app recommendations no longer appear.
- For Settings or Start/Search suggestions, revisit the Privacy > General controls; changing the Share checkbox will not alter those areas.
- If an installed app is still listed as a share target, that is expected. The Share checkbox hides promotional entries, not registered applications.
Does disabling suggestions affect sharing files or links?
No. The action changes which entries are displayed in the Share chooser. It does not remove the Share command, block a recipient, change the file, or uninstall an app that is already on the computer.

Microsoft Support states that Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. The operating system continues to run, but Microsoft can stop changing or documenting older UI behavior. As a result, labels and the exact Share experience may differ between Windows 10 builds and between applications.

That support status does not change the procedure on a system where the checkbox is present. It does mean that an absent control should be treated as a build or app limitation rather than evidence that a newer Windows 11 management policy will work.
A quick troubleshooting checklist
- Promoted tiles still appear: make sure you cleared the checkbox in the classic Share dialog, then closed and reopened that dialog.
- No context menu appears: right-click a blank background area, not an app tile or the file preview.
- The option is missing: test sharing from File Explorer or another app that uses the system dialog; custom share windows may not provide it.
- My People suggestions remain: use the separate Taskbar setting or the current-user registry value.
- Privacy changes had no effect: Settings, Start, and Search suggestions are separate from Share-pane promotions.
- An administrator wants a policy: the documented
DisableShareAppPromotionsapplicability is Windows 11 version 24H2 and later, not Windows 10.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will turning off Share app suggestions uninstall apps already on my PC?
No. The checkbox only removes promotional entries from the Share chooser. Installed applications remain installed and can continue to appear as normal share targets when they support the content type.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhy do two Windows 10 PCs show different suggested Share apps?
Promoted apps are selected using popularity in the user’s region, so the list can differ by location. Windows build and the application that opens the Share surface can also change what is displayed.
Can I disable Share suggestions for every Windows 10 user with one policy?
The documented Windows 10 method is the Share-dialog control, while the registry alternative described for My People is under HKEY_CURRENT_USER. Microsoft lists DisableShareAppPromotions for Windows 11 version 24H2 and later, so it is not an official Windows 10-wide solution.
What if My People is missing from my Windows 10 taskbar settings?
My People was no longer being developed in Windows 10 version 1909 and later, and some installations may omit the hub or its switch. That absence concerns the taskbar feature and does not control the classic Share dialog.
Do Windows 10 Privacy settings block Store promotions in Share?
No documented Privacy > General option controls the Share-pane promotions. Those switches affect suggested content in Settings or personalization of Start and Search, so use the Share dialog’s own context-menu checkbox instead.
