To swim on the surface, complete Keroppi’s Finding Flippers quest and craft the Flippers. To dive underwater, raise Kuromi’s friendship to level 6, complete her Deep Diving quest, then craft the Snorkel. Once you have it, use the vertical control to descend or rise while swimming.
Flippers and Snorkel unlock different abilities

You need the Flippers before the Snorkel progression becomes useful: they are the earlier surface-swimming unlock, while the Snorkel is the item that enables diving. Both are in-game items; you do not need physical snorkeling gear.
How to unlock surface swimming
- Progress to Lilypad Lagoon. Follow the main questline until you reach the Power up the Gate objective and gain access to the area.
- Talk to Keroppi. Find him in Lilypad Lagoon and accept Finding Flippers.
- Collect the quest materials. The GamesRadar walkthrough says Keroppi provides the Fins and asks you to find one Strap. It places the Strap in a chest northwest of Keroppi, near a small pier in the green pond. If it is not there, check the quest marker and current in-game objectives; item locations may vary with updates.
- Craft the Flippers. Take the materials to Chococat’s crafting table. According to the walkthrough, the Flippers work passively after crafting and do not need to be equipped.
How to unlock the Snorkel and diving
- Raise Kuromi’s friendship to level 6. Apple’s App Store guide identifies this as the requirement for the diving quest. It suggests pumpkin jack-o’-lanterns as a useful early two-star gift.
- Complete Deep Diving. GamesRadar’s walkthrough says Kuromi is at the entrance to Spooky Swamp and that the quest involves retrieving a locket underwater and bringing it back to her. Completing it awards the Snorkel recipe.
- Craft the Snorkel. GamesRadar lists the recipe as 10 Rubber, 2 Sparks, and 2 Ingots. Those ingredient amounts are from a secondary walkthrough rather than an official guide, so use the in-game crafting menu as the authority if its recipe differs in your version.
Controls for moving underwater
Swim into deep water after crafting the Snorkel. Steer horizontally with your normal movement control, then use the separate vertical control to change depth:
- Touchscreen: Use the up/down control on the right side of the screen.
- Controller: Use the right joystick to move up or down in the water.
The controls reference describes the right-side control as the depth input; it is separate from the normal movement control used to steer.

Manage stamina while exploring
Diving consumes stamina, so longer underwater searches can be easier with more stamina available. The mechanics reference says Mermaid Outfit pieces reduce stamina loss while diving. Increase your stamina and use any stamina-support options you have unlocked before setting out for an extended search.
GamesRadar reports that, if stamina runs out, the character automatically swims back to the surface and does not drown. Treat that as a walkthrough-reported behavior rather than a guaranteed mechanic for every current game version.

If you still cannot dive
- You have Flippers but no Snorkel: Flippers enable surface swimming only. Check that Kuromi’s friendship is level 6, then complete Deep Diving and craft the Snorkel.
- You cannot reach the quest area: Continue the main story until Lilypad Lagoon is accessible for Keroppi’s quest, or progress to the Spooky Swamp entrance for Kuromi’s quest.
- You have the Snorkel but cannot change depth: Enter deep water and use the separate vertical input—right-side up/down control on touch, or the controller’s right joystick—rather than the horizontal movement control.
- A listed item or recipe does not match: Follow the active quest and crafting-menu requirements in your game. The detailed locations and recipe above come from a secondary walkthrough and may be version-specific.
