To use emojis in Roblox on a Windows PC, join an experience with chat enabled, press / to focus the chat bar, press Windows + ., choose an emoji, and press Enter to send it. You can also type : followed by part of an emoji name to use Roblox’s built-in suggestions when the experience supports the current text-chat system.
Use the Windows emoji picker
- Join a Roblox experience that has chat enabled.
- Press / to open or focus the experience chat bar. On some international keyboard layouts, try if / does not work.
- Press Windows + . (period). Microsoft documents this shortcut for Windows 10 and Windows 11. Windows + ; may also open the panel.
- Choose an emoji or search for one in the Windows emoji panel.
- Press Enter to send the message.
Common examples include 😀 😂 😎 ❤️ 👍 🎉 and 🔥.

The emoji panel inserts characters into the currently focused text field. It normally works with Roblox’s standard chat input, but it is not a guarantee for every custom chat interface or experience.

Use Roblox’s built-in emoji autocomplete
Experiences using Roblox’s current TextChatService chat window can suggest emojis as you type:
- Open the chat bar with /.
- Type a colon: :.
- Continue with part of an emoji name and no spaces, such as :smil.
- Select a suggestion with the mouse, or move through the suggestions and press Enter.
- Continue typing and press Enter to send.
The exact suggestions and names can vary with Roblox’s implementation, so do not assume that every emoji alias works everywhere. Roblox’s documentation also uses / to trigger command autocomplete, which is separate from emoji suggestions.

If there is no chat bar, the problem may not be your keyboard. Roblox says Experience Chat depends on the experience, account settings, communication permissions, age-check requirements, and regional availability.

- Press /, then try if you use an international keyboard layout.
- Click inside the Roblox window and try again.
- Check whether the experience developer has enabled chat.
- Test another experience that uses the standard Roblox chat interface.
- Check your communication settings and whether the account has completed the required age check.
- Consider parental-consent requirements and regional restrictions.
- Restart Roblox if the chat field has lost keyboard focus.
Roblox currently states that Experience Chat requires an age check and that users cannot enable chat in settings until they complete one. Roblox also states that users ages 5–9 need parental consent for Experience Chat, while users under 16 need parental consent for Direct Chat. These requirements may change, so check Roblox Support’s Experience Chat guidance for the latest rules.
Why an emoji may appear as a box or question mark
Supported emojis may vary by device, font, chat system, and experience. Newer or compound emojis can render differently on different operating systems. Roblox may also filter, alter, or suppress chat content, and a custom chat interface may handle Unicode text differently from the default one.

Try these fixes in order:
- Click directly inside the Roblox chat bar before pressing Windows + ..
- Send a plain-text message to confirm that chat itself works.
- Try a widely supported emoji such as 😀 or 👍.
- Use Roblox’s : autocomplete instead of the Windows picker.
- Try another standard-chat experience.
- Restart Roblox and test again.
Do not expect every flag, skin-tone combination, or multi-character emoji sequence to display identically on every device.

Roblox emotes animate your avatar; they do not insert emoji symbols into chat. When available, open the emotes menu from the experience interface and choose an animation. You can also try chat commands such as:

/e pointDefault emotes include actions such as dance, point, and cheer. Other avatar emotes can be purchased and equipped through the Roblox Marketplace. An experience can hide or disable its emotes wheel, but Roblox’s creator documentation says disabling the wheel does not automatically prevent emotes from being performed with a chat command.
