To do the Coffin in skate.—often called “Skate 4”—hold the four inputs at the same time. On PS5, hold L2 + R2 + Square + X. On Xbox, hold LT + RT + X + A. Use the triggers, not the bumpers.

Press and hold all four buttons together. The skater grabs both sides of the board and lies flat on their back in the Coffin position. The current default input does not require an ollie first or a separate right-stick movement.

How to land the Coffin reliably
- Ride forward with a little momentum.
- Choose a relatively straight, flat section rather than a turn or crowded area.
- Press and hold the two triggers and two face buttons simultaneously.
- Release the inputs when you want to return to normal riding or transition into another move.
Steering remains possible while Coffining, but it is considerably less responsive than normal riding. Straightaways give you more time to hold the position and reduce the chance of hitting cars, buildings, or other obstacles.

Using the Coffin on ramps
For a ramp objective such as the Play Dead AR Program tutorial, activate the Coffin before leaving the kicker’s lip. The skater should already be in the position as they enter the jump; triggering it after takeoff may be too late for the objective.
You can also perform the Coffin while riding down a large ramp and use it to gain substantial air. If there is enough airtime, exit the position in the air and transition into another trick. Because steering is limited, line up the approach before activating the move.

skate. is currently in early access on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, so menus and control documentation can be updated as new tricks are added. EA’s current route to the move list is:

On the controller prompt for Settings, use X on Xbox or Square on PlayStation. The Coffin appears in Skatepedia under Grabs. See EA’s current control guide for the in-game documentation.

If the Coffin is not triggering
- Check the buttons: PS5 uses L2, R2, Square, and X. Xbox uses LT, RT, X, and A.
- Check the triggers: L2/R2 and LT/RT are not the bumper buttons.
- Press the inputs together: The documented command is a simultaneous four-button combination.
- Try a straight approach: Begin on a flat stretch with forward momentum instead of while turning or near an obstacle.
- Check Skatepedia: Open the move list through Menu → Settings → Skatepedia → Grabs in case your early-access build presents updated control information.
Some guides list Triangle on PlayStation or Y on Xbox, sometimes alongside an upward right-stick input. Those instructions conflict with the current published Coffin references. The documented default command is the four-button combination listed above.
EA’s current documentation says Skatepedia is updated as new tricks are added, but the cited material does not announce that the Coffin has been removed, renamed, or given a different command.
