On PC, install Fortnite’s optional High-Resolution Textures component through the Epic Games Launcher: open Library, select Fortnite’s three-dot menu, choose Options, check High-Resolution Textures, then select Apply. It is not a separate third-party download. Epic says the option is not currently available on iOS or Android.

Download the texture component on PC

  1. Open the Epic Games Launcher and select Library.
  2. Find Fortnite and open its three-dot menu.
  3. Select Options.
  4. Check High-Resolution Textures, then select Apply.

These are Epic Games Player Support’s documented installation steps. The launcher may need to download additional files after you apply the selection. Check the component size shown in your own Options screen before proceeding if disk space is limited. Epic’s instructions for turning on high-resolution textures

What the option changes—and what it costs

High-Resolution Textures are an optional part of Fortnite’s installation. Enabling them increases the installation size; leaving them unchecked or removing them can reduce the space Fortnite uses. Epic’s installation-size guidance describes the option as increasing the size of Pre-Download Streamed assets and recommends unchecking it when saving space. The actual component size displayed in your launcher is the most useful figure for your installation, because Epic’s support pages give different estimates. Epic’s Fortnite installation-size guidance

One Epic low-frame-rate troubleshooting page says removing the high-resolution textures saves over 14 GB and gives a 17 GB total for the configuration described there. A separate Performance Mode guide says removing them saves over 15 GB. Those figures do not match, and neither should be treated as a universal current install size. If you cannot find a related launcher option

The Pre-Download Streamed Assets control is not the setting you need to enable High-Resolution Textures. Epic says that this option’s absence from Fortnite’s launcher options is intentional; there is no need to restore it or search for a hidden control. Epic’s explanation of the missing Pre-Download Streamed Assets option

Should you keep High-Resolution Textures installed?

Choose based on your available disk space and whether you want the optional texture component. If your drive is tight, leave it unchecked or remove it; if you have room and want the component, enable it in Options. Epic documents removing it as a way to free space for players using Performance Mode, but enabling High-Resolution Textures itself is not an FPS improvement.

Performance Mode is a separate rendering setting. Epic says it may increase FPS and requires restarting Fortnite after changing the rendering mode. Its older-machine guidance also mentions an SSD or at least 6 GB of RAM as ways to help the game fit in memory and reduce hitches and stutters; those are general performance suggestions, not requirements for downloading the texture component. The FPS examples on Epic’s support pages concern specific older laptops at 720p and are not current-hardware benchmarks or measurements of this texture setting.
