Reinstall Minecraft on Windows PC

Install or reopen Minecraft Launcher using the official Minecraft download page or Microsoft Store.

Sign in to Launcher with the same Microsoft account used to purchase Minecraft.

Open the Launcher library, select Minecraft, and choose the install option.

Minecraft’s installation guidance directs owners setting up a new computer to use the purchasing Microsoft account and install from the Launcher library. Java Edition and Bedrock are sold together on PC: Minecraft says ownership of either PC edition entitles you to the other. That bundle applies to PC, not to purchases made on unrelated platforms.
Download it again on console or mobile
Open the store or game library on the device where you originally bought Minecraft, signed in to the account that owns the purchase. Find Minecraft there and choose its install or download option. Store names and menu labels can change, so follow the current console or device interface.

Minecraft’s platform instructions describe updating and direct existing owners to update when prompted. They do not establish one fixed reinstall path for every current console interface.

If Minecraft opens in Trial mode

Check the Microsoft account. On Windows, make sure Launcher is signed in to the account that purchased the game. Minecraft’s support guidance identifies account mismatch as a key check when an owner cannot access the full game.

Check Game Pass. If you play through Xbox Game Pass on Xbox or PC rather than a standalone purchase, confirm the subscription is active. Access through a subscription depends on that entitlement being current.

Repair Launcher if needed. If the correct account is signed in and the issue persists on Windows, follow Minecraft’s Launcher troubleshooting guidance and repair the Launcher.

Check the platform and edition before downloading
A Minecraft license generally stays with the platform store and account where it was purchased. The official installation guidance lists separate storefronts for Windows, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and mobile. Do not assume that buying Bedrock on a console or phone also gives you the Windows PC version.
There was a specific historical transition for owners of Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition: Minecraft’s FAQ said they could use the in-game prompt or find the newer Minecraft in the eShop to download the Bedrock version free. This applies to that legacy Switch Edition migration, not to other platforms or purchases.
Protect local worlds before uninstalling
Store ownership and save files are separate concerns. The official guidance cited here does not establish whether uninstalling Minecraft preserves local worlds on every platform. Before deleting the game or its data, check the platform’s save and backup behavior so you do not remove worlds you want to keep.
