To download Google Keep notes as HTML, use Google Takeout: select Keep, create an export, download the archive, extract it, and open the files in Takeout/Keep with a browser. The current Takeout layout commonly provides one HTML file per note, plus an archive_browser.html file that explains the archive. This is the supported way to export all your notes at once; Google Keep’s single-note sharing command creates a Google Doc instead of an HTML file.
How do I download all Google Keep notes as HTML?
Google Takeout is the bulk-export route. It creates a copy of the Keep data attached to the Google Account you use for the export, rather than removing anything from Keep.

Use the account that owns the Keep notes you want to export. If you have several Google accounts open, verify the profile before starting Takeout.
- Open Google Takeout. The product list contains many Google services. Deselect the products you do not need so the resulting archive is smaller and easier to inspect.
- Select Keep. Leave Google Keep selected and choose Next step.
- Choose a delivery method. For the most straightforward workflow, select Send download link via email. Takeout can also deliver the archive to Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or Box.
- Create the export. Select Create export. Google prepares the archive; the link is not necessarily available immediately.
- Download the archive from the email. Open Google’s message, select Download archive, and complete any account-verification prompts.
- Extract the downloaded file. Unzip a ZIP archive. If you selected TGZ, use an archive utility that supports that format.
- Open the Keep folder. In the extracted archive, go to
Takeout/Keep. The note files are normally stored there as HTML documents. - Open a note in a browser. Double-click an
.htmlfile or use your browser’s Open File command. For an overview of the archive’s organization, openarchive_browser.html.
The export is a downloaded snapshot, not a live connection to Keep. Changes made after the export request but before Google finishes creating the archive may not appear in that download.
Where are the HTML files in a Google Keep Takeout?
After extraction, the usual path is Takeout/Keep. Each note is represented by an HTML document in that folder or its relevant subfolder, while archive_browser.html provides navigation and format guidance.

Finding the folder on your computer
- Windows: Open the downloaded ZIP in File Explorer, choose Extract all, then open the extracted
Takeoutfolder followed byKeep. - macOS: Double-click the ZIP in Finder. Open the resulting folder, then
Takeout/Keep. - Linux: Use your file manager’s archive extraction command or a command-line archive utility, then browse to
Takeout/Keep.
Keep the complete extracted folder together while browsing. Opening a note file directly usually works, but the archive browser can make it easier to understand which files belong to the same export.
What if I do not see an .html extension?
Google’s official Keep description lists the data categories in an export but does not promise a permanent per-note filename or extension. The current, commonly documented layout uses HTML note files, yet Google can change Takeout’s packaging. Check archive_browser.html and inspect the Keep folder before assuming the export failed.
What does a Google Keep HTML export contain?
The Keep export is broader than plain note text. Google says the download can include the following information associated with your notes:
- Note text and checklist or list items
- Voice recordings
- Drawings
- Images
- Note color
- Pinned and archived status
- Collaborators
- Your Keep labels
These items may appear as part of the HTML view or as accompanying files in the archive. The HTML is therefore useful for reading and preserving a human-viewable record, while the surrounding archive preserves associated exported data.

What the export does not guarantee
- Deleted data is unavailable. Takeout cannot download Keep content that has already been deleted and is no longer available to the account.
- Managed accounts may be restricted. A work or school administrator can control whether account data may be exported, so an organization-managed account may show different options or prevent the export.
- It is not a real-time mirror. The archive reflects the data Google captured while creating that export. Edits made during the process can be absent.
Which Takeout delivery and archive format should I choose?
For most people, an email link and ZIP archive are the least complicated combination. Other choices are useful when you already organize backups in a cloud drive or need a different archive format.

Can I export one Google Keep note without creating a Takeout archive?
Yes, but Google’s single-note option produces a Google Doc rather than an HTML file. Open the note in Keep, choose More, and select Copy to Google Docs.
This route is practical when you need editable document content from one note. It is not a substitute for an HTML Takeout when you need a folder of all notes, Keep-specific state, labels, collaborators, or attached media represented in the archive.

Should I use HTML or JSON for Google Keep data?
Choose HTML when people need to read the notes in a browser. Choose JSON when software or a later data-processing workflow needs structured fields, but do not assume that every Takeout service exposes identical fields or packaging.
- HTML: Human-readable pages that open in a standard browser and are convenient for browsing or printing from the browser.
- JSON: Structured data that is more suitable for scripts, parsing, or migration work when the required fields are present.
Google’s broader Takeout documentation describes HTML and JSON as export formats for documented activity records and notes that fields vary by service and user action. Keep’s exact format choices and file layout can therefore change as Google updates Takeout.
How do I open and preserve the exported notes?
Open the files safely
- Finish extracting the archive before opening individual files.
- Open
archive_browser.htmlfirst if you need orientation. - Open note files in a standard browser such as the browser you normally use for local HTML files.
- If a note references an image, drawing, or recording, keep the surrounding extracted folders in place rather than moving only the HTML file.
Keep an untouched copy
Make one backup copy of the original downloaded archive before renaming, sorting, or editing extracted files. The archive is your original snapshot; a separate working copy lets you reorganize files without losing the source package.
Use clear folder names
If you create multiple exports, place each one in a dated folder outside the extracted archive. For example, a folder named Google-Keep-Takeout-2026-10-26 makes it clear which snapshot you are viewing without changing any files inside the export.

Why can’t I find a note after downloading Keep?
Missing notes usually result from account selection, archive timing, deletion, or account-management rules rather than from the browser. Check the following in order:
- Confirm the account. Make sure Takeout was opened under the Google Account that owns the note.
- Search the extracted location. Look inside
Takeout/Keep, not only at the top level of the archive. - Open the archive browser.
archive_browser.htmlcan clarify the package structure and available files. - Check when the note changed. A recent edit may have occurred after Google captured the export snapshot.
- Check whether the note was deleted. Deleted Keep data is not available for download.
- Consider account administration. Work and school accounts can have administrator-controlled export restrictions.
If the archive opens but a media item does not display, restore the complete extracted directory from the original archive and open the HTML again. Moving only a page can separate it from files that the page expects to find nearby.

It is a useful offline snapshot, but it should be treated as an export rather than a synchronization service. A later Takeout creates a new archive; it does not update an older folder automatically.
For a dependable record, retain the original archive, note the account and date used, and create a fresh export when you need a newer snapshot. Keep the archive protected because it may contain personal text, recordings, images, drawings, labels, and collaborator information.

What should I do before sharing exported HTML files?
Review the extracted folder for private note content and attachments before sending it to anyone. Because the export can include collaborators and media as well as text, sharing one HTML page may not represent the full privacy impact of sharing the surrounding archive.
- Share only the specific file or files needed for the task.
- Keep the original archive private and provide a copy for any editing or review.
- Check whether labels, pinned status, archived status, or collaborator details reveal information you did not intend to disclose.
- Delete temporary copies from shared computers after the transfer is complete.

Verify that you used the account that owns the notes and remember that the archive is captured during a specific export window. Notes deleted before capture and edits made while the archive was being prepared may not be represented.
Can a work or school account use the same Keep export process?
The steps are generally the same, but an administrator can restrict exporting for a managed account. If Keep is unavailable in the Takeout product list or the export is blocked, the account administrator may control that setting.
