Address Bar Quick Actions were experimental Edge commands that let you start browser tasks by typing an intent such as Update into the address bar. The documented setup is to open edge://flags/#omnibox-pedal-suggestions, set Omnibox Pedal Suggestions to Enabled, restart Edge, and then enter an action phrase. That procedure comes from a March 20, 2021 guide and may not work in a current Edge release because Microsoft’s current documentation no longer lists the flag. Check whether the flag is present in your installed build; if it is missing, use Edge’s supported keyboard shortcuts instead. Browse with Copilot is a separate, newer automation feature and is not required for Quick Actions.
What were Address Bar Quick Actions in Microsoft Edge?
Address Bar Quick Actions, also called “pedals” in Edge’s experimental terminology, were suggestions that appeared when a typed phrase matched a built-in browser command. Instead of opening a settings page and navigating through menus, you could type an intent in the address bar and select the resulting action. The March 2021 documentation describes discrete commands rather than general web automation.

This distinction matters today. Microsoft’s current shortcut documentation still covers address-bar controls, while its current pages reviewed for this guide do not document edge://flags/#omnibox-pedal-suggestions. Treat the flag method as historical: it is worth checking in your build, but its presence and behavior are not guaranteed across Edge channels, versions, regions, or managed installations.

Is Omnibox Pedal Suggestions still available in my Edge version?
There is no universal yes or no. The flag was documented in 2021, but current Microsoft pages do not promise that it remains in every release. The only reliable check is to open the flag URL in your own Edge installation and see whether the setting exists.
What the current status means
- If the page opens and lists Omnibox Pedal Suggestions, you can try the historical enablement procedure below.
- If Edge reports that the flag is unavailable, redirects, or shows no matching experiment, your build does not expose that method. Do not try to substitute a similarly named flag.
- If the flag is present but no action appears after restarting, the phrase may not match one of the commands supported by that build, or the experiment may be incomplete or disabled for your channel.
Edge’s learning-center material cautions that “Features and functionality subject to change.” That warning is especially relevant to flags, which are experimental controls rather than permanent settings.
How do I enable Address Bar Quick Actions with the historical Edge flag?
When the flag exists, the process is short: open the exact flag page, change one drop-down, restart Edge, and test an intent phrase. The steps below reproduce the procedure documented by TheWindowsClub on March 20, 2021.
- Open a new tab. Launch Microsoft Edge and create a fresh tab so the address bar is ready for an internal Edge URL.
- Open the experiment page. Enter
edge://flags/#omnibox-pedal-suggestionsin the address bar and press Enter. This is anedge://page, not a web search. - Find the setting. Locate Omnibox Pedal Suggestions in the list of experiments.
- Enable it. Open that setting’s drop-down menu and change Default to Enabled.
- Restart Edge. Select the Restart button shown by the flags page. Edge must relaunch before the change can take effect.
- Test an intent. After Edge reopens, type
Updatein the address bar. The historical guide says an Update Microsoft Edge action should appear as a suggestion.
Select the action suggestion rather than pressing Enter on a normal search. If the suggestion is not shown, use the troubleshooting section below before assuming that the browser update function itself is broken.
Which phrases and commands can Quick Actions recognize?
The 2021 guide gives several examples, but it does not publish a complete command vocabulary. Use these phrases as tests, not as a guarantee that every current Edge build supports each one.

These examples describe the feature’s intended scope: one browser command triggered from a typed phrase. They should not be read as evidence that Quick Actions can fill forms, click arbitrary controls on a website, or coordinate several tabs.

The most common explanation is that the experimental flag is no longer included or active in your build. Work through the checks in order so you can distinguish a missing feature from a setup mistake.
The flag URL does not show Omnibox Pedal Suggestions
Current Edge documentation does not list this flag, so its absence is an expected possibility rather than proof that your installation is damaged. There is no supported setting to recreate an experiment that has been removed. Use the keyboard shortcuts in the next section for dependable address-bar control.
The setting is still on Default
Return to edge://flags/#omnibox-pedal-suggestions, locate the setting, and verify that the menu says Enabled, not Default. A default value does not mean the feature is active; it leaves the decision to Edge’s build configuration.
You enabled it but did not restart Edge
Flags are applied during browser startup. Select Restart on the flags page, or close and reopen every Edge window if the restart control is no longer visible. Then test the phrase again.

You typed a phrase that is not recognized
The historical article lists only a small set of examples and does not claim that arbitrary wording works. Start with the documented test, Update, and then try the exact examples such as Clear cache or translate this page. A normal search result after typing does not indicate that the address bar is malfunctioning; it indicates that no Quick Action matched the input.
The action appears, but the result is not what you expected
Remember that the suggestion is a browser command, not a search query. Choose the action row itself. If you press Enter while the search suggestion is selected, Edge will search for the words instead of running the command.
You are using a managed or different Edge channel
Flags can vary between release channels and may be controlled by an organization. The historical instructions do not establish availability for enterprise-managed devices, beta channels, macOS, or any particular region. If your installation differs from the 2021 example, rely on the shortcuts documented for your platform rather than forcing an experimental setting.
What are the dependable address-bar shortcuts in current Edge?
Microsoft’s current shortcut page documents these controls for Windows and Mac. They do not require the Quick Actions experiment and are the practical fallback when the flag is absent.

Choose based on what you need to automate. Quick Actions were a typed-phrase experiment for individual Edge commands; shortcuts are stable keyboard controls; Browse with Copilot is a separate automation capability designed for broader interaction.

Browse with Copilot is not an update to the old flag and does not restore Quick Actions when the flag is absent. It is an alternative for users who need multi-step webpage interaction, while shortcuts remain the least dependent option.

Start by deciding whether your goal is navigation, searching, or a browser command. The current shortcuts cover the first two categories even when the experimental command suggestions are gone.
For navigation
Press Ctrl+L or Alt+D, type the destination, and press Enter. If you copied a complete URL, Ctrl+Shift+L pastes it and goes directly to that address.
For searching
Press Ctrl+E or Ctrl+K, enter your query, and submit it. This avoids accidentally editing the existing page address while keeping the search action explicit.

For a conventional website name
Type the site name and press Ctrl+Enter when the intended result is the conventional www. plus .com form. This shortcut is a formatting aid, not a Quick Action and not a guarantee that the resulting domain exists.
Should I leave the flag enabled if it is present?
You can leave it enabled if the suggestions work and you prefer typed commands, but remember that it is an experimental flag rather than a current Microsoft-supported workflow. If it causes confusing suggestions or does nothing, return to the same flag page and set it back to Default, then restart Edge.
Changing the value affects the experiment, not the documented keyboard shortcuts. Those shortcuts remain available as the fallback regardless of whether the flag is enabled, absent, or reset.
What is the practical answer for a current Edge user?
Try the historical flag once: open edge://flags/#omnibox-pedal-suggestions, enable Omnibox Pedal Suggestions, restart, and test Update. If the setting is missing or the action does not appear, stop troubleshooting the flag and use Alt+D, Ctrl+L, Ctrl+E, Ctrl+K, or Ctrl+Shift+L according to the task. Consider Browse with Copilot only when you specifically need multi-step clicking, typing, or tab navigation and your Microsoft 365 Premium rollout supports it.

Can I install Omnibox Pedal Suggestions as an Edge extension?
The documented method is an internal Edge flag, not an extension installation. If the flag is absent from your build, the available documentation does not provide an extension package or supported replacement that recreates those exact suggestions.
Will resetting the flag remove my bookmarks or saved passwords?
The procedure changes the Omnibox Pedal Suggestions experiment and requires a browser restart. The historical instructions do not describe deleting bookmarks, passwords, or other profile data; reset the flag only if you want to return the experiment to its default state.
