Overwatch 2’s console setup prompts you to scan a QR code or enter an alphanumeric code, then confirm the link in-game. Blizzard says crossplay is enabled by default; PC players already use Battle.net and do not need this console-linking step.
Link your console account to Battle.net
-
Create a Battle.net account first if you do not already have one.
-
Launch Overwatch 2 on your console and continue through the welcome screen until the game displays a QR code and an alphanumeric code.
-
Scan the QR code with your phone, or enter the displayed code on Blizzard’s account-linking page: https://account.battle.net/connections.

Check the link if crossplay is not working
Confirm that the console account is connected to the Battle.net account you meant to use. Also check that you have not opted out of crossplay in the game’s settings. Blizzard’s original FAQ describes an in-game opt-out and mentions Xbox system settings, but its current exact menu path is not established here; avoid relying on a guessed sequence of menu labels.
Know how matchmaking differs by platform and input
Crossplay lets players on supported platforms play together, but mixed PC-and-console groups do not necessarily share every matchmaking pool or mode. Blizzard’s launch FAQ said Competitive players were separated into console and PC pools, with mixed console-PC groups limited to non-Competitive modes. Newer guidance distinguishes the console Mouse and Keyboard Pool, formerly called the PC Pool, from controller users playing with PC friends. Blizzard’s December 2025 Defense Matrix update is the newer source for those input-pool and aim-assist details.

Console controller with PC friends
Console players using controllers retain aim assist in cross-play matches with PC friends, according to Blizzard’s December 2025 update. Older launch-era guidance saying aim assist was disabled in these matches is outdated.
Console mouse and keyboard
Console players using mouse and keyboard join the Mouse and Keyboard Pool. Blizzard says aim assist is disabled in the Competitive Mouse and Keyboard Pool, including when a player there uses a controller. This is distinct from a controller player grouped with a PC friend.

Crossplay does not itself merge progression
Crossplay is about playing together across platforms; cross-progression and account merge concern eligible progression and cosmetics across linked accounts. Linking for crossplay should not be treated as a promise that progress or cosmetics will transfer immediately. Blizzard’s account-merge FAQ explains confirming which console accounts to merge and says linked console progress is stored on the Battle.net account.
Before confirming a merge or changing an existing link, verify which console account is attached to the Battle.net account. Blizzard’s FAQ says only one account per platform can be linked and describes a one-year cooldown for linking new accounts after unlinking. Since account-linking policies may change, consult current Blizzard support before unlinking or switching accounts.
