A 1TB M.2 2230 NVMe SSD such as the Crucial P310 is a candidate for handheld PCs that accept that exact drive size—not a universal upgrade for every handheld. Check your model before buying: the 2024 ROG Ally X uses an M.2 2280 drive, while Valve’s Steam Deck specifications list an M.2 2230 module and caution that it is not intended for end-user replacement. If you want more room without replacing the internal drive, supported models also offer microSD expansion.
Is $0.13 per GB a current price?
No current price for a specific SSD is established here. At decimal capacity, $0.13 multiplied by 1,000GB works out to about $130 for a 1TB drive, but that arithmetic is not a verified offer or a claim about the P310’s current price.
For context only, Tom’s Hardware listed a $114.99 MSRP for the Crucial P310 1TB in 2024. Windows Central reported a temporary $84.99 Amazon deal in December 2025. Those are historical figures, not current prices or proof that the drive is available at either amount.

These specifications show why “handheld gaming PC” is too broad a compatibility category. A drive’s interface and physical length both matter. The Crucial P310 2230 is a potential 1TB option for compatible 2230 devices, including Steam Deck and ASUS ROG Ally examples named by Crucial/Micron; that does not make it a fit for every Ally model.

Internal SSD or microSD: which route makes sense?
Replace the internal SSD
An internal replacement can increase built-in capacity, but it involves a hardware replacement workflow. Crucial provides a handheld-console installation guide, while Valve’s Steam Deck specifications caution that the socketed module is not intended for end-user replacement. Consider the device maker’s guidance and your comfort with opening hardware before proceeding. Match the exact model and drive length rather than relying on a product being described as a handheld SSD.
For a compatible 2230 device, the Crucial P310 1TB (CT1000P310SSD2) is one candidate. Micron/Crucial rates the P310 2230 for sequential reads up to 7,100 MB/s and sequential writes up to 6,000 MB/s. These are manufacturer-rated maximums, not measured game loading times or a guarantee of handheld performance.

Add a microSD card
Where the device has a card reader, microSD is a removable way to add storage without swapping the internal SSD. It is a separate upgrade route, not an equivalent replacement in performance: the available evidence does not establish a controlled comparison of microSD and SSD game-loading speeds. Check your device’s specifications and intended card compatibility before buying.
How to check whether an SSD will fit
- Identify the exact handheld model and revision. Use the manufacturer’s product specifications, not just the device family name.
- Find the internal SSD form factor. Look for the listed M.2 length, such as 2230 or 2280. Do not assume a 2230 drive fits a 2280 slot or vice versa.
- Check the upgrade guidance. Read the device maker’s warnings and the drive maker’s installation instructions before opening the system.
- Compare the actual capacity and price. Calculate price per usable GB from the current offer you can verify; do not treat a past MSRP or deal as today’s price.
- Decide whether removable storage is sufficient. If your handheld supports microSD and you prefer not to replace hardware, compare compatible cards as a distinct option.
What the P310’s speed rating does—and does not—tell you
The P310’s quoted read and write rates describe manufacturer-rated sequential transfer maxima. They are useful as product specifications, but they do not establish how quickly a particular game will launch, load levels, or perform on a given handheld. No hands-on game-loading comparison is established here, so choose based first on exact compatibility, capacity, price, and whether you are comfortable with the replacement process.
