To find an official Super Mario game for Nintendo Switch, start with Nintendo’s Mario games catalog, open the individual game page, and verify the platform and edition before choosing physical or digital. Nintendo’s pages show the available purchase routes; stock, prices, and promotions can change, so check the live listing before buying.
Where to find official Mario games for Switch
- Open Nintendo’s Super Mario games and merch page. It features games with Mario and friends and lets you filter by system and edition, including Nintendo Switch and physical or digital formats. The catalog is a changing snapshot, not a guarantee that every title is in stock.
- Select a game, then inspect its individual product page. Confirm the title, Nintendo Switch platform, and edition you intend to buy.
- Choose the purchase route shown on that page: a digital purchase through Nintendo or a route to retailers for a physical copy. Check the current price and availability at checkout.
Nintendo’s games catalog describes its store as offering digital downloads and physical games. Nintendo Support says most games available through Switch eShop can also be purchased online at Nintendo.com, but advises checking the specific game’s information page for availability.

How to check the platform and edition
Do not rely on a Mario image, search result, or marketplace title alone. On the official product page, look for Nintendo Switch as the system and distinguish the standard Switch game from a Switch 2-specific edition or upgrade. Compatibility can vary by title, so do not infer it from another game’s listing.
Example: Super Mario Odyssey
Nintendo’s physical Super Mario Odyssey page identifies a Nintendo Switch physical edition and offers a retailer-finding route. Its digital listing identifies Nintendo Switch and says Switch 2 compatibility is supported, with behavior consistent with Nintendo Switch. Nintendo describes Odyssey as a 3D Mario adventure and names Nintendo as its publisher and developer. Check each other game’s own page for its platform and compatibility details.
#1 Best Overall
- A variety of playable characters are available, some with unique attributes that affect gameplay and platforming physics.
- Younger and less-experienced players will love playing as Toadette, who is brand new to both games, and Nabbit, who was formerly only playable in New Super Luigi U. Both characters offer extra assistance during play.
- Multiplayer sessions are even more fun, frantic, and exciting thanks to entertaining character interactions. Need a boost? Try jumping off a teammate’s head or getting a teammate to throw you.
- Features a wealth of help features, like a Hints gallery, reference videos, and a Super Guide in New Super Mario Bros. U that can complete levels for you if they’re giving you trouble.
- Three additional modes—Boost Rush, Challenges, and Coin Battle—mix up gameplay and add replayability, while also upping the difficulty for players who want to try something harder. Players can use their Mii characters in these modes.
Physical game card or digital download?
| Choice | What to verify | Where to buy |
|---|---|---|
| Physical game card | Confirm the Nintendo Switch edition, seller, region, condition, stock, and current price. The product page may direct you to retailers. | Nintendo’s physical listing and its retailer route; availability varies. |
| Digital download | Confirm the game’s digital listing, system, and any compatibility notes. | Nintendo eShop or Nintendo.com when the specific title is offered for online purchase. |
For an Odyssey search, a clear phrase is “Super Mario Odyssey Nintendo Switch physical game.” Read the listing carefully: a digital code, Switch 2 edition, merchandise item, or used copy is not the same thing as a new Switch physical game.

Nintendo Support’s digital-purchase FAQ says a Nintendo Account used for a Nintendo.com digital purchase must have accessed eShop on a Switch-family system at least once. You also need a supported system, an internet connection, and eShop access to download. The FAQ’s Americas service-country list is Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, and the United States. Because account and regional availability guidance can change, check the current FAQ and your local Nintendo site before purchase.
How to assess accessories and secondhand listings
For controllers and other gaming peripherals, Nintendo advises looking for the Official Nintendo Licensed Product Seal, saying, “Always look for this seal when buying video game systems, accessories, and related products.” Nintendo also warns that unlicensed products may not work or may have compatibility problems. The seal applies to accessories and peripherals; it is not a test that authenticates a used game card.
