Identify the exact horror game first
“The horror game” is not a product name. Several games can appear under similar search terms, and a listing may differ by country, edition, platform, or access method. Write down the exact title before you begin. If you only know a character, series, or a distinctive word from the name, use that information in the Store search and inspect each result rather than downloading the first match.

Search the PlayStation Store
- From the PS5 home screen, open PlayStation Store.
- Use the Store search field and enter the exact title, including any subtitle or number.
- Open the product page that matches the game you intend to play.
- Check that the page offers a PS5 version or identifies PS5 compatibility. A PS4 listing, add-on, soundtrack, demo, or bundle is not necessarily the full PS5 game.
- Read the purchase or download options shown for your account and region. The listing is the authoritative place to confirm the current price, edition contents, language options, and whether access comes from a purchase or a subscription.
Store labels and offers can vary by account and country. If the title does not appear, try the publisher’s complete title, check spelling, and verify that you are browsing the intended regional Store. - From Games home, open Game Library.
- Select Your Collection. This section lists digital games associated with the account.

- Select Download. The PS5 adds the game to its download queue and begins installing it.
- Open the control center and choose Downloads/Uploads to watch the download and installation progress.
- When installation finishes, select the game from Games home to launch it.
Before selecting Download
Pause on the game tile long enough to confirm that it is the full title, not an add-on or a similarly named edition. If several entries are present, compare their names with the Store receipt or product page. This simple check avoids starting the wrong item and then wondering why the expected game or campaign is missing.
The account matters at every stage. A console can have several users, but each user can have a different collection. If the purchase was made on another account, switch to that purchasing account before searching the library. A family member’s profile will not automatically show every entitlement owned by someone else.
What “installed” can mean during the process
Some games make an initial portion playable before every file has arrived. The PS5 can therefore show a playable state while additional content continues installing. Let the remaining download complete before assuming that every mode, level, or feature is available. If a menu appears limited during this period, first check Downloads/Uploads rather than treating the behavior as a failed purchase.
Verify the correct edition before launching
If more than one tile appears, compare the edition names and platform labels with the Store page you bought. Deluxe, standard, cross-generation, trial, and add-on entries can be listed separately. Select the full game rather than an expansion or a separately listed bonus item. The Store page and your transaction record are the best references for what the account actually owns.
Start the download remotely
You can queue an owned digital game from the PlayStation Store website or PlayStation App when you are away from the console. The account used remotely must be the account associated with the PS5.
- Open the PlayStation Store website or PlayStation App and sign in to the purchasing account.
- Open Game Library > Purchased.
- Select the horror game.
- Choose Download or Download to Console, depending on the interface.
- Confirm that the intended PS5 is linked to the account. Remote downloading depends on that console association.
- Ensure automatic downloads have been configured on the PS5. Without that setup, a remote request may not begin as expected.
- When you next use the console, check Downloads/Uploads to confirm that the queue started and that installation completed.
Remote downloading is a queue request, not a way to purchase anonymously or bypass account checks. The console must be associated with the same account, the Store must recognize the entitlement, and the title must be offered for that account’s region and platform. If any of those conditions is missing, start the process on the PS5 and inspect the listing there.

If the game is missing from Game Library
A missing title is usually an account, purchase, visibility, or license issue rather than a need for new equipment. Work through these checks in order.

Open the PS5 account settings and verify that the active user is the account that purchased or redeemed the game. Family members or a second PSN account can use the same console but have different libraries. Sign out and return to the purchasing account before checking Game Library > Your Collection again.
2. Check transaction history
Review the account’s transaction history for a completed purchase. A canceled, failed, or incomplete transaction will not create a downloadable entitlement. If the transaction is absent, check the receipt or payment account used and make sure you are not looking at a different regional account. A payment confirmation from a different profile does not transfer ownership to the current user.
3. Check hidden games
A title deliberately hidden from the library will not be visible in the normal collection view. Use the library’s hidden-content setting to unhide it, then return to Your Collection and search again. Hiding a game does not remove the entitlement; it only changes whether it is shown in the ordinary collection view.
4. Restore licenses when the game is locked
If the game shows a padlock or appears unavailable despite a successful purchase, use the PS5’s Restore Licenses function while signed in to the owning account. After the license refresh completes, reopen the library and try Download again. 5. Recheck the listing and region
If the game was purchased as a bundle, trial, upgrade, or add-on, the item in your library may not have the name you expect. Return to the Store and search the exact title. A listing available in another country, or a PS4-only product, will not necessarily appear as a downloadable PS5 game on your account. Check the country attached to the purchasing account rather than relying on a web result or another person’s Store view.
6. Check whether access was subscription-based
If you obtained the game through a subscription catalog, confirm that the subscription is active and that the title is still included for your region. A subscription entitlement can disappear from the usable library when the service or catalog status changes. The downloaded files may remain on the console, but access still depends on a valid entitlement.
If the download is stuck or will not start
Pause and resume the queue
Open the control center, select Downloads/Uploads, highlight the stalled game, and choose Pause. Wait briefly, then choose Resume. This refreshes a queue that has stopped without requiring you to discard the downloaded data.

Cancel the pending item and retry
If pausing and resuming does not work, cancel and delete the pending download from Downloads/Uploads. Then return to Games home > Game Library > Your Collection, select the game, and choose Download again. This creates a fresh download request; it does not cancel a completed purchase. Recheck the title after restarting so you do not accidentally queue an add-on or trial.
Check PlayStation service status
When the queue repeatedly fails or the Store itself is unavailable, check PlayStation’s service-status page before changing account settings. A service interruption can prevent authentication, purchasing, or delivery even when the console and network appear normal. Once services recover, retry the download from the library.
Separate a download problem from an installation problem
If the item is still transferring, its progress appears in Downloads/Uploads. Digital download versus a disc
The procedure above is for digital ownership. A disc follows a different path and should not be treated as a way to perform the requested Store download.

The official PS5 Quick Start Guide distinguishes disc play from digital purchasing and downloading. If your console has no disc drive, a physical copy cannot replace a digital entitlement. Buying a disc therefore does not solve a request specifically asking how to download from the Store.
Check availability before you expect a download
The title may not be sold in your region
PlayStation Store catalogs are regional. A horror game visible on a website, in a video, or on another person’s console may not be listed for your account’s country. Search while signed in to the account that will play the game and use that listing’s availability as the deciding evidence.
The game may have several editions
Standard, deluxe, cross-generation, launch, and bundle editions can have different contents and prices. Confirm what the selected edition includes before purchasing. If you own only an add-on, season pass, or upgrade, the base game may still need to be purchased separately. Compare the edition label on the receipt with the label on the library tile.
Subscription access can change

PS4 and PS5 listings are not interchangeable in every case
A search result can include a PS4 version, a PS5 version, or a cross-generation product. Read the platform label on the product page and select the version your console and account are entitled to use.
