Before you start: check your membership and console
The Game Catalog is part of PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium. Essential does not include Game Catalog access. Premium includes the Game Catalog as well as the Classics Catalog and benefits such as Game Trials and streaming for many catalog games. - Use the console that supports the game. A PS5 game can only be downloaded to a PS5; a PS4 cannot download it.
- Check the listing before you start: catalog availability can vary by region and titles can leave the service.
These checks help separate a membership issue from a compatibility issue. If you have Essential, the Game Catalog is not part of your plan; if you have Extra or Premium but a game is missing, the title may be unavailable in your region, no longer in the catalog, or not listed for your console. For Premium streaming, a missing Download option does not by itself mean the title is unavailable: check whether its listing offers a stream option instead.
These instructions reflect Sony’s US support pages. The menu labels may differ by console software version or region, and the US catalog does not establish that the same games are available worldwide. Sony’s live US catalog page and the PlayStation Store listing show current availability; use your local PlayStation site or Store if your account is registered elsewhere.
Find and download a game on PS5
- From Games home, open PlayStation Plus.
- Go to the Benefits tab.
- Select Game Catalog.
- Browse or select a game, then check its listing for current availability and the supported console.
- Select Download and follow any on-screen prompts.
The sequence begins in the PlayStation Plus area of Games home, not in the PS4 function-screen menu. Once you reach Game Catalog, use the catalog’s current entries to browse for a title. Before starting the download, open the selected game’s listing and confirm that it is still available through your membership and that the listing supports your console. This matters especially when a game has both PS4 and PS5 versions or when you are following a game list that may have been published earlier.
Sony’s US support page gives this PS5 route and notes that PlayStation Plus games can also be found in the Game Library: Game Catalog access and download instructions. If you leave the catalog screen after starting a download, open Game Library to locate the game or check its download status. Sony’s own support wording is: “Your PlayStation Plus games can also be found in your Game Library.”
If you do not see a title you expected, check the individual Store listing as well as the catalog. A listing for a different platform or a different regional catalog may not match the version available to your account. Also make sure you are looking at Game Catalog rather than the separate Monthly Games offer; a game’s presence in one benefit does not guarantee it is in the other.
Find and download a game on PS4
- From the PS4 function screen, open PlayStation Plus.
- Scroll to Game Catalog.
- Choose a game and confirm that its listing is available for your membership and console.
- Select Download and follow the on-screen prompts.

On PS4, use the catalog listing to verify that the version you selected supports PS4. The fact that a title is included in the broader PlayStation Plus catalog does not mean every version can be installed on every console. In particular, a PS5 game can only be downloaded to PS5. If a title is available for PS4, select its listing and choose Download; if the listing is for PS5 only, you will need a PS5 to download it.
Once started, the game is also accessible through the console’s Library, so you do not have to return to the catalog to find it. If the expected title or Download action is absent, check its current regional listing and your membership tier rather than relying on an older list of catalog additions.
How to confirm that a game is included
Do not rely on a search result, an old game list, or the fact that a title appeared in the catalog previously. Catalog entries and removal dates change. Open the game’s current listing from the catalog or PlayStation Store while signed in to the account with the membership, then look for the available PlayStation Plus access option. Confirm all of the following before downloading:
- Membership tier: the title must be available through a tier you currently have. Game Catalog access requires Extra or Premium.
- Current availability: a title may have an end date and be removed from the service. Access through the catalog is not the same as buying or permanently owning the game.
- Platform: check whether the listing is for PS4, PS5, or both. A PS5 game requires a PS5 for download.
- Region: availability may differ by country or region. Check the catalog shown for your PlayStation account, not a list for another market.
- Access method: the listing may offer download, streaming, or both, depending on the title and your device and membership.
Think of these as separate checks rather than one general “included” label. Your tier answers whether you have the relevant benefit; the current listing answers whether this specific title is available now. The platform details tell you whether you can install the version on your console, while the available action tells you whether you can download or stream it. Passing one check does not automatically satisfy the others.
Catalog membership access is not permanent ownership. If Sony gives a game an end date and removes it, catalog access ends; downloading it while it is available does not turn the catalog benefit into a purchase. Do not assume that a game will remain playable through the catalog indefinitely or that a listing seen in a previous month is still valid. Check the live catalog or Store page before you plan a download, especially when the timing matters.

Regional listings deserve the same attention as dates. Sony’s US pages explain the US catalog and benefits, but they do not establish that the same titles are offered in every country. If you are using an account registered in another market, consult that market’s PlayStation site or Store instead of treating a US title list as universal. This is also why a friend’s catalog or a social post may not match the options on your own console.
Game Catalog titles are not the same as Monthly Games
PlayStation Plus has separate game benefits that are easy to mix up. Monthly Games are offered monthly and can be added to a member’s library while the membership is active. The Game Catalog is a rotating library available to Extra and Premium members. Finding a title in one benefit does not prove that it is included in the other, and claiming a Monthly Game is not the same action as downloading a rotating catalog title.
For a Monthly Game, use the monthly-games offer and add the game to your library while it is available. For a Game Catalog title, find it in the catalog and check that it is still listed for your tier, region, and console before downloading. The practical difference is what you are looking for and how you verify it. If you are trying to access a monthly offering, check the current Monthly Games offer and add it to your library during its availability period. If you are browsing the larger rotating Game Catalog, check that the game is still listed at the time you want to play it. A title may be advertised as a Monthly Game and also appear elsewhere, but do not assume that the two benefits have identical terms or availability; follow the listing for the specific offer.
When searching the console, use the benefit name that matches your goal. Looking for a Monthly Game in the Game Catalog can make it seem as though it is missing, while finding a rotating catalog game does not mean you have claimed a monthly offer. Keeping those two paths distinct makes it easier to understand why one title may appear in your library while another still needs to be found in the current catalog.
Download or stream: which option should you use?
Downloading installs the game on a compatible console. Streaming plays a supported game over a network connection instead of downloading it. Premium members can stream many Game Catalog and Classics Catalog titles, but streaming is not offered for every game, and not every listing necessarily presents both options. Check the individual game listing for the available action.

- The Game Catalog is not visible: check that you are signed into the account with the membership and that it has Extra or Premium. Confirm the console menu path: PS5 uses Games home → PlayStation Plus → Benefits → Game Catalog; PS4 uses the function screen → PlayStation Plus → Game Catalog.
- The game does not appear: search the live catalog or Store listing for your region. It may not be available in your country, may have left the service, or may not be included with your tier.
- There is no Download button: verify the game’s platform and your console. A PS5 game cannot be downloaded to PS4. If you are a Premium member, the listing may offer streaming for a supported game, but streaming is not available for every title.
- You expected a Monthly Game: check the Monthly Games offer rather than the rotating Game Catalog. The two benefits have different availability and access steps.
- You downloaded it but cannot locate it: check Game Library on your console. Sony states that PlayStation Plus games can also be found there.
Work through the checks in order. First confirm the account has an active Extra or Premium membership. Next confirm you opened the correct catalog for the console you are using. Then look up the game in the current listing for your region and verify its platform and offered action. This sequence helps distinguish a missing catalog benefit from a title that has rotated out, a regional difference, or an incompatible version.
If a game appears but Download is unavailable, do not assume the listing is broken. The game may be a PS5-only title on a PS4, may no longer be available through the catalog, or may offer streaming rather than download for an eligible Premium member. Conversely, having Premium does not guarantee streaming for every title. Let the current individual listing determine which option applies.
If the game’s listing or membership status still seems inconsistent, use Sony’s catalog support instructions and the PlayStation Store for your account region; a list from another region or an earlier date may no longer match what your console offers.
