Find Gastly in Wild Zone 4 or the south Lumiose Sewers. At level 25, it evolves into Haunter. To evolve Haunter into Gengar, trade it with another player; a guide also lists Gengar as obtainable during the main story.
Where to find Gastly
Nintendo Life lists Gastly in two locations:
- Wild Zone 4
- The south Lumiose Sewers
The same Pokédex table lists Haunter in the south Lumiose Sewers, so you can look for the evolved form there instead of starting with Gastly. Nintendo Life’s Pokémon locations guide appears to misspell Gastly as “Ghastly” in its table; the entry is Pokédex number 65, between Abra and Haunter.
How to evolve Gastly into Haunter
Raise Gastly to level 25. It evolves into Haunter when it reaches that level. Game8’s evolution guide gives level 25 as the requirement.
How to evolve Haunter into Gengar
Trade Haunter with another player to evolve it into Gengar. Pokémon HOME connectivity is not established as a way to trigger this evolution, so use an in-game trade rather than relying on HOME as an alternative.

Nintendo Life also lists Gengar as obtainable during the main story. Its location table does not name the mission or specify when the encounter becomes available, so there is no supported mission detail to give here. Trading Haunter remains the documented evolution method.
