On PS5, open Games > Game Library > Your Collection, select the purchased game, then choose Download. On PS4, go to Library > Purchased, select the game and choose Download. Both consoles install the game automatically. If it is missing, locked or stuck downloading, check the account and purchase first, then follow the troubleshooting steps below.
Find and download a purchased game on PS5
- From the PS5 home screen, open Games > Game Library > Your Collection.
- Select the game you bought.
- Choose Download. The game installs automatically; for some titles, you may be able to start playing after a portion has copied, while the rest continues installing.
Sony documents these console steps on its PlayStation Store game and add-on download page. Menu labels may differ slightly by region or system software version.
Find and download a purchased game on PS4
- Open Library > Purchased.
- Select the game.
- Choose Download. The game installs automatically.
The same Sony support page documents the PS4 steps; localized labels can vary.
Download a game remotely from a browser or phone
For a browser, sign in to PlayStation, select your avatar, open Game Library > Purchased, choose the game and select Download. In the PlayStation App, open Game Library > Purchased, select the title and choose Download to Console.

Remote downloads depend on the console being linked or signed in as Sony specifies and automatic downloads being configured. Sony says a PS4 must be activated as the primary PS4 for remote downloading. If automatic downloads are off, the download may start the next time the console is turned on. Download an add-on instead of the base game
- PS5: Open Game Library > Your Collection, select the game, then open its Add-ons section.
- PS4: Open Library > Purchased, select the game, then go to PlayStation Store > Your Add-ons and select the arrow beside the add-on.
Some digital extras, such as season passes or in-game currency, may be applied to your account without appearing as a game download. Check your account’s service list if you cannot find that type of content.

If the purchased game is missing from your library
Confirm the purchasing account and transaction
Purchases appear in the Game Library for the account that made them. Make sure the console is signed in to that account, then check the transaction history to confirm the purchase completed. Sony’s history guide gives these paths:
- PS5: Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Transaction History.
- PS4: Settings > Account Management > Account Information > Wallet > Transaction History.
Only the family manager can view family members’ transaction histories. For digital content applied to an account rather than downloaded to a console, including some season passes or in-game currency, check the service list. See Sony’s transaction history and service list instructions.

Check whether the game is hidden
A hidden game is hidden from the libraries on all consoles. Check your hidden games setting if the purchase does not appear; Sony includes this check in its download troubleshooting guide.
Check console sharing if another account bought it
If another person who uses the console owns the game, the game does not become owned by your account. Access may be available through the owner’s console-sharing activation: Console Sharing and Offline Play on PS5, or activation as the primary PS4. Confirm the owner’s setting before troubleshooting your own purchase.

If a purchased game shows a padlock
A padlock can indicate a license or network-access problem. Work through the checks in this order:
- Sign in to the account that bought the game and confirm the transaction in its history.
- If access comes from PlayStation Plus, confirm the membership is active and that the game remains available in the catalog.
- If another account owns the game, confirm the relevant sharing activation on this console.
- Check PlayStation service status and install any available system software update.
- Restore licenses: on PS5, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses; on PS4, open Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses.

What console sharing does—and does not do
On PS5, find the setting at Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play. Only one PS5 can have it enabled for an account at a time. Other users on that console can play games and media purchased and downloaded by the account, including while offline. It does not transfer ownership to those users. The corresponding PS4 access method is activating one PS4 as the primary console. Sony also limits which PlayStation Plus benefits can be shared; see PS5 Console Sharing and Offline Play and PlayStation Plus sharing details.
If the download will not start or gets stuck
Pause and resume, then retry from the library
- PS5: Open Downloads/Uploads in Control Center, then pause and resume the download.
- PS4: Open Notifications > Downloads from the function screen, then pause and resume.
- If it still fails, cancel and delete the queue item, return to the game in your library and start the download again.
Check service, software, storage and connection
- Check for a PlayStation service alert.
- Install the latest available system software update.
- Confirm the console has enough free storage. Sony’s troubleshooting guide explains how to check the game’s required space and the console’s available storage.
- Check the network connection if the download fails or stalls.
Sony lists these steps, as well as rebuilding the database in Safe Mode among later troubleshooting options, in its game download troubleshooting guide.
Contact PlayStation Support if the problem continues
When contacting support, provide any error code, a clear description and the steps that reproduce the problem, the date and time you tried to access the game, and a screenshot or video if possible.
Purchased games and PlayStation Plus access are different
A one-time Store purchase is tied to the account that bought it. A PlayStation Plus game or catalog title may instead depend on an active membership and continued catalog availability. If a title is accessible through someone else’s account, the console-sharing or primary-PS4 setting may also matter.
