Find Dapperwing in the Scarlet Forest, starting at the Area 17 Great Lake Shore pop-up camp. Search the ruins and branches toward Area 14, then check Area 15 near the waterfall if necessary. Set the region to daytime and Plenty to make the bird’s plumage easier to see, catch it with the Capture Net, and return to Samin at the Windward Plains Base Camp.
Best Dapperwing location: Scarlet Forest Area 17
The most reliable way to find a Dapperwing in Monster Hunter Wilds is to travel to the Great Lake Shore pop-up camp in Area 17 of the Scarlet Forest. Search the ruins and nearby branches, then follow the route toward Area 14. Dapperwings can perch on branches, shrubs, and ruined structures along this path.

If you do not find one there, check Area 15 near the waterfall, especially the exposed rocks, pillars, and lake edge. Other reported possibilities include Areas 3, 10, and 12, but endemic-life spawns are not guaranteed in any one area.

Set the Scarlet Forest to daytime and Plenty
Dapperwings can appear under different conditions, but daytime during the Plenty environmental state makes them much easier to spot. Their plumage is more vivid in Plenty. During Fallow, their green coloration can blend into the surrounding vegetation.

To change the conditions, interact with a tent and choose Rest. Select daytime and Plenty when those options are available. The exact cost or progression requirements for resting can vary by game state, so do not rely on a fixed price.
Dapperwing locations and the fastest search route
1. Area 17: Great Lake Shore camp to Area 14
- Fast travel to the Great Lake Shore pop-up camp in Area 17.
- Look around the ruined structures opposite and near the camp.
- Inspect elevated branches, shrubs, and nearby perches.
- Follow the connecting route toward Area 14, checking the branches and ruins as you go.
The route linking the Area 13 and Area 17 sides of the forest is particularly useful because several Dapperwings may be perched along the path rather than standing on the ground.
2. Area 15: waterfall and lake
Area 15 is the best alternative when the Area 17 route is empty. Search around the waterfall and lake, concentrating on exposed rocks, small pillars, and other elevated surfaces where the Dapperwing can perch.

- Gear up to hunt, hunt to gear up – Create your character, then gather materials from each hunt and build an array of armor and weapons.
Other possible areas
Additional location tables and sightings place Dapperwings in Areas 3, 10, and 12. Treat these as possible spawn zones, not fixed locations. The different area lists reflect the fact that endemic life can appear in multiple places and may change between visits.
How to catch a Dapperwing
- Go to the Scarlet Forest. The bird is found there, even though the related research request is given at a base camp in the Windward Plains.
- Rest at a tent and set the environment to daytime and Plenty if possible.
- Equip the Capture Net from the item bar.
- Approach slowly. Dapperwings are generally docile, so the Ghillie Mantle is usually unnecessary. Try to approach from an angle with a clear view of the perch.
- Aim at the bird until the targeting reticle is correctly positioned and the Dapperwing is within range.
- Fire the Capture Net. A successful capture completes the immediate objective.
A missed shot can cause the Dapperwing to fly away. If that happens, check nearby branches and ruins before leaving the area, or continue to the next recommended search point. The Capture Net is the essential tool; a real-world substitute will not help with this capture.
How to complete Samin’s Research Report
After capturing the Dapperwing, return to Samin at the Windward Plains Base Camp. Speaking with Samin advances or completes Samin’s Research Report.

The report is an early endemic-life side mission connected to the earlier Dareel’s Research Report progression. It becomes available during early progression after that preceding research mission, although the exact unlock wording or chapter placement may vary by version or guide. The important sequence is:
- Progress through the early research-report missions.
- Receive Samin’s request.
- Capture a Dapperwing in the Scarlet Forest.
- Return to Samin at the Windward Plains Base Camp.
Reported rewards for the completed report are 10 Blue Mushrooms, 5 Honey, and 50 Guild Points.
Why you cannot find a Dapperwing
- You are searching the wrong region: The capture location is the Scarlet Forest, not the Windward Plains base camp where Samin is located.
- You are checking only one perch: Spawns are not guaranteed. Search the Area 17-to-14 route, then rotate to Area 15.
- The bird blends into the foliage: Rest until daytime and Plenty to make its colors more visible.
- You are looking on the ground: Check branches, ruins, shrubs, rocks, and small pillars.
- You missed the net: The Dapperwing may fly away. Search nearby perches before changing areas.
- You forgot the required tool: Equip the Capture Net before approaching the bird.

Is Dapperwing in the Windward Plains?
No. Samin is located at the Windward Plains Base Camp, but the Dapperwing itself is found in the Scarlet Forest. Capture it there, then return to Samin.

Do I need the Ghillie Mantle to catch Dapperwing?
Usually not. Dapperwings are generally docile and can often be approached without the Ghillie Mantle. The Capture Net is required; a failed throw may make the bird fly away.
