Find a low-population public server

Open the Roblox experience page in the app or on the website.

Choose the Servers section.

Browse the public servers and check their displayed player counts. If the list currently offers sorting and an Exclude Full Servers filter, use them to find listed servers that are not full and compare their occupancy.

Select a server with room and join it if Roblox allows you to.

The controls can vary by account, experience, and current interface. In a September 29, 2025 announcement, Roblox described ascending and descending sorting and an Exclude Full Servers filter, while also noting tests of browsing limits, logged-in-only API access, and additional sort and filter options. Those announced controls are not a guarantee that every player will see the same interface today. Roblox’s server-list update announcement
Why Play may not send you to an empty server
The ordinary Play flow uses matchmaking; it does not let you pick a specific low-population server. Roblox Creator Hub explains that matchmaking filters out servers that are full, private, reserved, or about to shut down, scores eligible servers, and sends the player to the highest-scoring one. To compare listed server occupancy yourself, use the experience’s Servers section instead. Roblox Creator Hub: Matchmaking

Manual browsing versus automatic matchmaking

When a private server is the better fit
A private server is a separate, access-controlled session, not an empty public server. Roblox Support says the experience’s Servers section can show private-server options when its creator has enabled them. The creator sets whether a private server is free or paid and determines its cost and capacity; who can enter depends on permissions and account privacy settings. A server fills before you join: Player counts and open slots are live conditions, and Roblox does not guarantee a reservation of the space shown in a listing.

A control is missing: Roblox has described testing changes to server browsing and additional controls. Use the options actually available in your account and the experience rather than assuming every list has the same filters. Roblox’s update announcement

You are troubleshooting a private server: Check the owner’s allowed players and your account’s private-server settings. These permissions affect private-server access, not your ability to browse public servers. Roblox Support
Some experiences may build their own server browser. Roblox Creator Hub’s Real-Time Server Browser example uses cross-server messaging, updates every minute, and displays a maximum of 20 servers. Those figures describe that developer implementation—not Roblox’s regular player-facing server list—and it is not a universal tool for searching every Roblox experience.
