You cannot catch these fragments directly. In Fisch, catch Lava Clams in Scoria Reach to obtain pearls, then give the matching pearl to a Crag Crab in the Scoria Mines. After roughly five minutes, the crab produces a random mining reward with an increased chance of the associated fragment.
Fragment locations and matching pearls
| Fragment | Matching pearl |
|---|---|
| Sulfur Fragment | Sulfur Pearl |
| Obsidian Fragment | Obsidian Pearl |
| Infernal Fragment | Igneous Pearl |
The fragment names and pearl names are not identical in every case: the pearl for the Infernal Fragment is called an Igneous Pearl, not an “Infernal Pearl.” Matching a pearl improves the chance of the corresponding fragment, but it does not guarantee the result. Crag Crab rewards are random. See the Scoria Mines reference and fragment guide.

Use the elevator near Ashbrook Town to enter the Scoria Mines. The elevator area is approximately X: -4972, Y: 145, Z: -1577. Other coordinate guides place the interaction point near X: -4982, Y: 146, Z: -1580, so use the elevator as the visual landmark rather than treating one coordinate as exact.
The mines have an extreme-heat hazard. Current Scoria Mines guidance lists Scoria Armor as necessary protection, although your heat bar may still rise while wearing it. Check the Scoria Mines reference for the area’s requirements.

3. Give the pearl to a Crag Crab
- Find a Crag Crab inside the mines.
- Equip the pearl you want to use.
- Interact with the crab and choose the on-screen option to give it the pearl.
- Wait approximately five minutes while the crab mines.
- Return to the same crab and interact with it again to collect the reward.
There is no console command, typed command, or separate quest-menu route. The entire process uses the in-world interaction prompt. The pearl affects the odds of a matching fragment, but the outcome remains chance-based. For example, an Igneous Pearl increases your chance of an Infernal Fragment; it does not guarantee one.
4. Take each fragment to its pedestal
After a successful mining run, return to Scoria Reach and place the fragment at its corresponding pedestal. Coordinates can vary by a few studs between guides, so confirm the location by its surroundings and the pedestal itself.

What the fragments are used for
The three fragments are part of the Igneous Rupturer progression. The wider progression also requires placing 11 pearls at the Igneous Altar, but those pearls are a separate requirement. You do not need to complete the 11-pearl altar requirement before obtaining fragments through Crag Crab mining. The fragment progression is documented in the Scoria Guard reference.

Common mistakes
- Fishing for fragments: fragments are Crag Crab mining rewards, not normal fishable items.
- Looking for “Infernal Pearl”: the correct item is Igneous Pearl.
- Expecting a guaranteed drop: matching pearls improve the odds but do not guarantee their fragments.
- Leaving immediately: wait for the crab’s roughly five-minute mining cycle, then collect the reward from that same crab.
- Searching for “Crab Miners”: the in-game creature is called a Crag Crab.
- Assuming the altar comes first: the 11 altar pearls and the fragment-farming process are separate parts of the progression.
Scoria Reach was introduced in Fisch version 1.71.0. Because coordinates and game content can change, use the named landmarks and the in-world prompts as the final confirmation.
