The current release is BlueStacks 5.22.250, released on July 17, 2026. You need Windows 11, an Intel or AMD processor, at least 4 GB of RAM, 5 GB of free storage, administrator access, and up-to-date graphics drivers. Hardware virtualization is recommended and is required for most newer Android instances.
Use the steps below to install BlueStacks, sign in to Google Play, install games and APKs, create different Android versions, configure performance, and fix the most common launch problems.

Check your Windows 11 PC first
- Windows 11
- Intel or AMD processor
- At least 4 GB of RAM
- At least 5 GB of free disk space
- Administrator access
- Current Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, or manufacturer-provided graphics drivers
BlueStacks recommends hardware virtualization. Without it, BlueStacks can run only a Nougat 32-bit instance, and performance may be reduced. Nougat 64-bit, Pie 64-bit, Android 11, and newer instance types require virtualization. See the official requirements.

Hyper-V on Windows 11: do not follow old advice blindly
BlueStacks 5.20 and later can run with Hyper-V enabled or disabled. The current 5.22 release therefore does not normally require you to disable Hyper-V, Virtual Machine Platform, Windows Hypervisor Platform, Windows Sandbox, or Windows Subsystem for Linux.
If Hyper-V is enabled, the official installer installs the Hyper-V-compatible version automatically. Disabling these Windows features can interfere with WSL, Docker, Windows Sandbox, virtual machines, and other virtualization software.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesOn some Hyper-V systems, your Windows account may need membership in the Hyper-V Administrators group. From an elevated Command Prompt, run:
net localgroup "Hyper-V Administrators" <username> /add
Replace <username> with your Windows account name, then restart Windows. Use BlueStacks’ Hyper-V requirements page if the installer reports a compatibility problem.

Google may send a “new sign-in” notification because BlueStacks presents itself as a virtual Android device. That alert can be normal after a successful login; it does not automatically mean the sign-in failed. See BlueStacks’ explanation of new-device alerts.
Install Android games and apps
From the BlueStacks Store
- Open BlueStacks 5.
- Select BlueStacks Store.
- Search for the game or app.
- Select its tile, then choose Install.
A local game installs into the current BlueStacks instance. A cloud game may open in a browser instead.
From Google Play Store
- Open System apps.
- Select Play Store.
- Search for the app or game.
- Select Install.
The app icon appears on the BlueStacks home screen after installation.
Install an APK or XAPK
- Launch BlueStacks 5.
- Select Install APK on the side toolbar.
- Find the
.apkor.xapkfile in Windows Explorer. - Select the file and choose Open.
You can also drag an APK or XAPK from Windows Explorer onto the BlueStacks home screen. Download APK files only from sources you trust. Installation can fail if the file requires a different Android version, processor architecture, device profile, or graphics environment.
Use a different Android version
Some apps and games require a specific Android release. BlueStacks lets you create separate instances, each with its own Android environment and app data.
- Open BlueStacks 5.
- Select the Multi-instance Manager icon on the side toolbar.
- Select Instance → Fresh instance.
- Choose an available Android version, such as Nougat 32-bit, Nougat 64-bit, Pie 64-bit, Android 11, or Android 13 (Beta).
- Select Next.
- Configure CPU cores, memory, resolution, ABI, performance mode, DPI, and instance count.
- Select Download if additional files are required.
- When the instance is ready, select Start.
Availability of Android 13 Beta and other instance types can vary by BlueStacks release and system compatibility. If Google Play reports “device incompatible” or an APK will not install, try Pie 64-bit or Android 11 first. The Multi-instance Manager guide explains the available options.

Fix common BlueStacks problems
BlueStacks will not open
Common causes include disabled virtualization, insufficient RAM or CPU allocation, outdated graphics drivers, antivirus interference, pending Windows updates, unmet minimum requirements, or corrupt Windows files.
- Restart Windows.
- Check that virtualization is enabled.
- Confirm at least 4 GB of RAM and 5 GB of free storage are available.
- If the PC has spare resources, review BlueStacks CPU and memory allocation.
- Update the graphics driver.
- Install pending Windows updates.
- Investigate whether antivirus software is blocking BlueStacks.
- If BlueStacks displays Repair now, use it.
- If the problem continues, submit a problem report with log files.
These steps apply to startup failures and codes such as -1101, -2001, and -2004. See the official startup troubleshooting guide.
Hyper-V launch errors
On some systems, Hyper-V may be partially enabled or BlueStacks may need administrator privileges. BlueStacks 5.14 and later may display a diagnostic prompt with Run tool, Run as Admin, or Apply on every launch. Use that diagnostic tool instead of immediately disabling Hyper-V.
Older guides sometimes recommend this command:
dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:VirtualMachinePlatform /all
That is a legacy troubleshooting procedure. Update current BlueStacks 5.22 before applying older Hyper-V instructions.
Graphics-driver or Windows-file errors
Update the Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA driver through the vendor utility or your computer manufacturer’s support software. If Windows system files may be damaged, open Command Prompt → Run as administrator and run:
sfc/scannow
BlueStacks lists outdated graphics drivers and corrupt Windows files among possible installation and startup causes.
Google Play says “Device incompatible”
- Open Settings → Phone.
- Change the device profile.
- Restart BlueStacks.
- If necessary, clear Google Play storage and cache.
- Try the app in a Pie 64-bit or Android 11 instance.
Some apps support only particular device profiles or Android versions. More options are listed in the device-incompatibility guide.
An APK will not install
Create another instance through Multi-instance Manager → Instance → Fresh instance, then try Nougat 64-bit, Pie 64-bit, Android 11, or Android 13 Beta where available. The APK may require a different Android release or architecture.
Recommended Free Tools
Google sign-in shows a black or white screen
Possible causes include antivirus interference, Google-side issues, incorrect graphics settings, disabled virtualization, proxy or DNS problems, or corrupted Google data. Clear Google cache, restart BlueStacks, verify virtualization, check that antivirus software is not blocking secure Google connections, reset proxy/DNS settings to their defaults, and try another graphics renderer or engine mode.
For detailed steps, use BlueStacks’ Google Play login troubleshooting guide.
Quick Recap
What the old BlueStacks advice gets wrong
- “You must disable Hyper-V.” Not for current BlueStacks 5.20 and later; BlueStacks 5.22 supports Hyper-V enabled or disabled.
- “BlueStacks needs 4 GB of disk space.” The published minimum is 4 GB of RAM and 5 GB of free disk space.
- “Virtualization is required in every configuration.” Nougat 32-bit can run without it, although performance may be limited. Newer instance types require it.
- “You are stuck with one Android version.” Multi-instance Manager supports separate Nougat, Pie, Android 11, and, where available, Android 13 Beta instances.
- “A Google new-device alert means login failed.” Google can identify BlueStacks as a new virtual Android device after a successful sign-in.
