In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s “Contract: Woodland Beast,” follow the humanoid footprints southeast from the latest transport attack site. The trail vanishes at the ford, then reappears on the opposite bank; follow it up the grassy rise to reach the Scoia’tael camp.

Head southwest from Grubb to the latest transport attack site, near the ford leading toward the Inn at the Crossroads. Alghouls attack when you arrive, so defeat them before examining the scene.

Use Witcher Senses to inspect the evidence and find the humanoid footprints. The evidence points away from a monster attack: the wounds on the bodies are described as post-mortem, and the trail leads to a human group.

Follow the tracks across the ford
Follow the footprints southeast, across the road and through the grass toward the water. They disappear at the ford. On the far bank, look southeast to pick them up again, then continue up the grassy rise. The Scoia’tael archer who stops Geralt marks the approach to the hideout. Prima Games’ “Guerrillas In The Midst” walkthrough also describes the trail disappearing at the water and resuming on the opposite bank.
Choose how to deal with the Scoia’tael
The “woodland beast” is a false lead: following the attack evidence brings Geralt to the Scoia’tael. Decide how you want to handle the encounter before approaching the camp.

On returning to Grubb, reporting the camp’s location earns a Letter of Safe Conduct. Saying you found nothing earns no reward. |

Attack the Scoia’tael |
The encounter becomes a fight. |
GameBanshee advises looting at least one squirrel tail and presenting it to Grubb for 30 crowns and a Letter of Safe Conduct. |
The negotiation route lets you avoid fighting, while attacking changes both the encounter and the reward steps. The captain’s reward also depends on what Geralt reports after leaving the camp. GameBanshee’s contract walkthrough covers these outcomes.
