- Confirm that the image was made in Java Edition rather than Bedrock Edition.
- Check that you actually used F2 or the remapped screenshot binding, not Windows + G or another capture shortcut.
- Take one new screenshot, then refresh the folder and sort by modified date.
- If the image appears in Game Bar’s Gallery, it belongs to the Game Bar capture location rather than Java’s folder.
Do not assume an empty Java folder means the game cannot save screenshots. It often means the capture was made by a different edition or tool, or that no Java screenshot has been taken in that installation yet.
Where are Java screenshots saved on macOS?
On macOS, Java Edition uses ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/screenshots. The tilde represents your macOS home folder.

How do I find screenshots made in Bedrock Edition?
Bedrock’s built-in screenshots are managed through the game’s Screenshot gallery, not the Java folder. In documented Bedrock versions, a screenshot control is available from the game menu and F2 is the default in-game key during gameplay, although controls and menus can vary by version and platform.
- Open Minecraft Bedrock and enter the world or menu where the image was created.
- Open the game’s Screenshot gallery.
- Locate the image there and use the gallery’s available view or share action.
- If you need the underlying files, look under the platform’s

<XUID> is the account-specific directory name used by Bedrock’s documented storage layout. The practical rule is to search the phone’s photo library, not a Java or Bedrock PC path. How do I export camera photos from Minecraft Education?
Minecraft Education camera photos use a portfolio workflow. They appear in the portfolio in chronological order rather than being exposed as ordinary Java screenshots.

- Find the camera photo by its position in the chronological list.
- Choose the portfolio’s export function.
- Select a destination directory when prompted.

The export destination is chosen during the export process, so there is no single fixed Education screenshot folder to search. If you are looking for a photo taken with Education’s camera, check the portfolio first and then the directory where you saved the ZIP.

Once you have located the correct library, use the platform’s ordinary file or sharing tools. Java PNGs can be copied from the screenshots folder into an archive or attached directly to a message. Bedrock gallery images should be shared from the gallery when possible, because the gallery understands its image and metadata relationship. Console and mobile images are normally shared from the device’s capture or photo app, and Education images are shared after unzipping the exported portfolio archive.
For an orderly archive, preserve the original file extension and date-time filename, and group files by edition or capture method. Keeping Java PNGs, Bedrock image-and-metadata sets, Game Bar captures, and Education export folders separate makes it easier to identify the source later.
Can the same Minecraft session create files in more than one place?
Yes. Running Minecraft does not force every capture method into one directory. A Java F2 screenshot can be in .minecraft/screenshots while a Game Bar image from the same moment is in VideosCaptures; on consoles and phones, the operating system similarly owns the capture library. Identify the button or menu used for each image before deciding where it should be.

Which location is the reliable first place to search?
For Java, use the operating-system-specific .minecraft/screenshots path. For Bedrock, open the Screenshot gallery before searching its com.mojang data. For every other platform, start with the platform’s own Captures, Album, Photos, Gallery, or Education Portfolio, because those interfaces remain the supported way to view and manage the image.
