To finish The Fifth Commandment in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, complete the main quest Into the Underworld, accept Katherine’s case at the Hangman’s Halter in Kuttenberg, investigate Alice’s murder and the earlier victims, then follow the evidence to young von Grolle’s room. The route below follows the walkthroughs’ reported sequence; speech checks and completed objectives can change which steps you still need to do.
Start the quest at the Hangman’s Halter
After completing the main quest Into the Underworld, return to Katherine at the Hangman’s Halter tavern in Kuttenberg and agree to help with her murder investigation. PowerPyx classifies this as a side quest and reports a reward of 150 Groschen and a Kuttenberg Knight shield for finding the real murderer; treat those rewards as guide-reported.

Examine Alice’s body and speak to the first witnesses
- Go to the cemetery in northern Kuttenberg and examine Alice’s body in the morgue. Use all available examination options.
- Speak with gravedigger Frantishek. The walkthroughs report that a speech check is needed to get useful information; PowerPyx describes easier persuasion options.
- Speak with Alice’s grieving friend near the body.
- Find Lumir nearby and ask about the case. Gamer Guides reports that he may be drunk during the day: return later, or use a Hair o’ the Dog potion. A speech check opens his account of the earlier victims.
If Lumir gives you enough information, the crime-scene objective may complete automatically. If it remains active, visit the crime scene. Check your current objective list rather than assuming every playthrough needs the same next step; dialogue checks and progress can affect what updates.

Some conversations may involve speech checks or payment, so the order and cost can vary with your choices. Treat these people as a guide-derived route through the investigation, not a mandatory dialogue sequence that every objective log will reproduce exactly.
Search young von Grolle’s room
Follow the active objective to examine young von Grolle’s room. PowerPyx describes infiltrating the house as optional and reports that a locked chest beside the bed contains “Trophies from victims.” Finding this evidence advances the plan to catch the murderer. Use the objective marker and the room search to confirm whether this step is still outstanding in your save.

PowerPyx reports that Hendl’s mother and the servant Thaddeus are carrying out the murders. Henry must fight Thaddeus while others deal with the mother. The guide then has you return to Katherine and question Mandelina. You can choose to deal with Mandelina immediately or send her to the bailiff; the available sources do not establish hidden consequences for either option. Finish by speaking with Lumir about what happened.

If an objective appears stuck
PLAION Support’s Hotfix 1.5.2 notes say: “Fixed Gotzlin sometimes levitating or teleporting while he’s supposed to lie still.” The notes also mention a Legacy of the Forge activity that could be unavailable during certain stages of The Fifth Commandment. These are specific quest-related fixes, not evidence that every stalled objective has the same cause.
