If Sims 4 mods are not showing up, first check that you are playing on PC or Mac, then enable mods in Game Options > Other. Extract any ZIP or RAR download, put the extracted mod files in the Sims 4 user-data Mods folder, and restart the game. If the issue began after a game update, check the creator’s compatibility notes before turning mods back on.
1. Check that your platform supports mods
The Sims 4 supports mods on PC and Mac, but not on PlayStation or Xbox. If you are playing on console, changing folders or game settings will not make PC/Mac mods appear. See EA’s mod and game-update guidance and its console edition information.

2. Turn mods back on in Game Options
- Launch The Sims 4.
- Open Game Options > Other.
- Check Enable Custom Content and Mods. If you use script mods, also check the script-mod option if it appears.
- Apply the change and restart the game.
Game updates can turn mods off, so this is a key check if they disappeared after a patch. EA’s mod update instructions explain the setting and recommend checking compatibility before using mods again.
3. Extract the download before installing it
A ZIP or RAR file is an archive, not usually the mod file the game loads. Extract it first, then move the resulting files into the Mods folder. An EA Forums community installation guide also discusses 7z archives and identifies common mod files as .package and .ts4script; follow the creator’s own installation directions if they specify a different arrangement.

4. Put files in the Sims 4 user-data Mods folder
The usual location is Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods. EA’s installation instructions say to open the Electronic Arts folder, then The Sims 4, and place extracted files in Mods. If that folder is missing, create it there—not inside the game’s installation directory. See EA’s Sims 4 mod installation instructions and the EA Forums community guide.
Check the folder depth for script mods
According to the EA Forums community guide, a .ts4script file must be no more than one folder deep inside Mods. If it is nested several folders down, move it closer to the Mods root. This depth rule is community installation guidance; a creator’s current instructions should take precedence if they differ.

5. If mods vanished after an update, check safely
- Leave mods disabled and launch the game to check whether it runs normally without them.
- Exit the game without saving.
- Check each mod creator’s notes for compatibility with your current game version, and install an updated version if one is available.
- Re-enable mods in Game Options > Other, then restart the game.
EA warns that saving and exiting while custom content and mods are disabled may remove that content from the save. Its recommended update-check sequence is to test with mods disabled, exit without saving, check mod compatibility, and then re-enable them. EA also notes that it does not screen, endorse, or support individual mods, and that a mod that worked before an update can cause problems afterward.
6. If they still do not appear
- Confirm the downloaded file was extracted. The game cannot load a mod left only inside a ZIP or RAR archive.
- Recheck the exact folder. Make sure the files are in the user-data
Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Modsfolder, rather than another Sims 4 folder. - Restart after changing settings or files. The game needs to relaunch to load enabled mods.
- Check creator instructions and update notes. Mods can become incompatible after patches, and the exact fix depends on that mod and your game version.
Use trusted creators and current versions. EA does not pre-screen or provide support for specific mods, so compatibility and installation details should be confirmed with the mod’s creator.
