If Ale & Tale Tavern crashes on startup or during play, start with reversible checks: restart Steam and your PC, verify the game’s installed files, compare your PC with the game’s posted requirements, then test with overlays and background utilities closed. Scienart Games has recommended these steps in response to one reported startup crash, but that player said they did not fix that particular case—so treat them as troubleshooting, not guaranteed cures.
1. Restart, update, and verify the game files
- Restart your PC, then open Steam and allow any pending Ale & Tale Tavern update to finish.
- In Steam, open your Library, right-click Ale & Tale Tavern, select Properties, then Installed Files and Verify integrity of game files. Wait for Steam to complete the check before launching the game again.
File verification is a general Steam diagnostic step; it was not identified as a confirmed fix in the developer’s cited response. Avoid deleting save data as a troubleshooting shortcut.

2. Compare your PC with the posted requirements
Steam’s listing states the following requirements. Confirm the current listing before relying on them, since requirements can change.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10 64-bit |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-4440 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200 | Intel Core i5-12400 or AMD Ryzen 5 5600 |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | Nvidia GTX 1060 or equivalent | Nvidia RTX 3050 or equivalent |
| DirectX | Version 11 | Version 11 |
| Network | Broadband internet connection | Broadband internet connection |
| Storage | 7 GB available space | 7 GB available space |
Being below a listed minimum is a compatibility concern, not proof that it caused a crash. Check your actual CPU, GPU, RAM, Windows version, DirectX support, and free disk space before considering hardware changes; do not buy a component without identifying a likely bottleneck. If your graphics driver is out of date, install an update from your GPU maker’s official channel and restart. No particular driver version is established as a fix.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Windows and Android.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
- Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.

3. Test for overlay or background-software conflicts
Scienart Games suggested disabling overlays and closing background utilities while testing. These programs are not established as universally incompatible with the game; the point is to see whether one affects your setup.
Turn off overlays and close utilities for one test
- Disable overlays from Steam, Discord, GeForce Experience, MSI Afterburner, and RivaTuner.
- Close utilities including RTSS, Overwolf, OBS, Nahimic, Sonic Studio, Armoury Crate, ReShade, and Special K.
Launch the game and check whether the same crash occurs. If it does, restore the settings you changed. If the game works, re-enable the programs in small groups and test again to narrow down a possible conflict.

Use system integrity checks only if appropriate
The developer also suggested Windows integrity checks. If you choose to try them, open Command Prompt as administrator and run these commands separately, waiting for each to finish:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →sfc /scannowDISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
These check or repair Windows system files and the Windows image; they are not game-specific repairs and may not address the cause. In the cited discussion, the player reported that these commands and the other suggestions did not resolve their crash. Do not leave antivirus or other security software disabled; if you test it temporarily, do so cautiously and turn it back on immediately.

What one reported crash does—and does not—show
A Steam Community thread from June 14–15 describes one Windows 11 player with a GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER and 16 GB RAM who encountered a UnityPlayer.dll breakpoint exception. The developer offered troubleshooting advice, and the player later said it had not fixed that instance. One report does not establish a widespread defect or show that Windows 11, that GPU, or any named utility causes the crash.
