0x800700 is not a complete diagnostic code. The hexadecimal suffix, the exact message, the editor you were using, and the operation that failed are needed before a code-specific repair is safe. If this happened in Microsoft Clipchamp, start by preserving your original media, then reload the project, verify your connection and available resources, and test browser extensions before clearing cache or site data. Export failures need a different branch of fixes than a project that will not open. The steps below cover Clipchamp recovery first and explain what to do if you were using the older Photos Video Editor, Microsoft Store, or another program.
What does the 0x800700 error mean?
The visible string 0x800700 is only a prefix. Windows error codes normally include additional hexadecimal characters, and different suffixes can describe unrelated failures. Treating the prefix as a diagnosis can lead you to delete files or reset an app unnecessarily.

Before changing anything, copy the complete code exactly as shown, including every character after 0x800700. Also record the full sentence around the code, the application name and whether it appeared while opening a project, loading media, saving, exporting or downloading a video. A Clipchamp project that will not load requires a different recovery path from an export that stops near the end.
Make a quick incident record
- Complete hexadecimal code, not just the prefix.
- Exact error wording and any button or link offered.
- Editor name: Clipchamp, Photos Video Editor, Microsoft Store or another application.
- Stage of failure: project opening, media import, editing, saving, export or download.
- Whether the project is personal, work or school, and whether OneDrive or SharePoint is involved.
Which video editor are you trying to restore?
The recovery instructions in this guide are primarily for Microsoft Clipchamp. Clipchamp stores project information and source-file references differently from the legacy Photos Video Editor and from unrelated desktop editors. Confirming the app prevents you from applying a Clipchamp cache procedure to the wrong program.

Clipchamp in a browser or Windows app
Use the Clipchamp branches below if the editor opened in a browser or the current Windows Clipchamp app and the project, media, save operation or export failed.
Legacy Photos Video Editor or another application
If the title bar identifies Photos Video Editor, a Store installation, or another editor, keep the complete code and consult that product’s support instructions. The preservation steps in this article still apply: do not delete source media, and make a copy before clearing local data. Do not assume that a Clipchamp project can be restored by importing it into a different editor.

How should I protect a project before trying a repair?
Protect the inputs first. Cache clearing, account changes and storage migration can remove local working files or force a project to relink every source. A separate copy of the original media gives you a way back if the editor loses its references.
- Create a separate folder on an internal drive or external storage with enough free space for every original video, audio and image file.
- Copy the original files into that folder. Do not move, rename or delete the originals while troubleshooting.
- If you use personal Clipchamp, note where each source file currently lives so you can relink it later if prompted.
- For work or school Clipchamp, preserve the project’s OneDrive or SharePoint Assets folder. It contains the project media and should not be emptied during cleanup.
- Write down the project name, account used to sign in and the OneDrive or SharePoint location. This information helps distinguish a missing project from a project that is present but inaccessible.
Clearing a browser cache or site data does not necessarily delete your copied originals, but it can remove local editing and processing files. Preserve the files before taking that higher-risk step.
How do I fix a Clipchamp project that will not load?
Start with low-impact actions. Reloading and reconnecting can restore a project without touching its local data.

- Use the browser’s reload button or press Ctrl+F5 for a full reload.
- Return to the Clipchamp project overview instead of repeatedly refreshing the editor canvas. Reload the overview page, then open the project again.
- Confirm that Wi-Fi or another active internet connection is working. Clipchamp needs connectivity to synchronize project changes and retrieve cloud-backed information.
- Close other browser tabs and demanding applications. This releases RAM and reduces competition for graphics and disk resources.
- Check free space on the internal drive that holds browser or app data. A nearly full drive can prevent temporary processing files from being created.
- Test browser extensions one at a time. Temporarily disable an extension, reload Clipchamp and retry the project; restore extensions after identifying the one that interferes.
- Keep the project in a normal browser window while testing. Do not use private or incognito mode for an export or recovery attempt.
If the project opens after one of these steps, save a copy of the project and leave the original media in its protected location. Do not immediately clear site data just because the first load was slow.
When should I clear browser cache or Clipchamp site data?
Cache clearing is a second-line measure, after you have preserved original media and tried a reload. It can remove temporary editing and processing files, so a project may ask you to relink sources afterward.
Clear cached images and files in Chrome or Edge
- Sign out of Clipchamp if the account page is behaving incorrectly.
- Open the browser’s privacy or browsing-data settings.
- Select only Cached images and files, set the time range to All time, and clear the data. Avoid selecting saved passwords or other categories unless you intentionally want to remove them.
- Close and restart the browser.
- Sign in to Clipchamp, open the project overview and retry the project.
Use the advanced site-data reset only when necessary
In Chrome or Edge, open Developer Tools, choose Application, select Storage, and use Clear site data for the Clipchamp site. Microsoft warns that this purges local editing and processing files. Use it only when your original media or Clipchamp Content Backup is available, because you may need to relink or restore those files afterward.
After a site-data reset, reopen the project from the overview rather than an old tab. If media thumbnails are missing, use the relink prompt and point to the unchanged copies you made before cleanup.
Can I restore edits that disappeared after Clipchamp reset or an offline session?
Clipchamp saves editing progress every two seconds while you are connected. That frequent saving does not guarantee recovery of changes that existed only in a local cache during a connection loss.

If connectivity dropped, reconnect before closing the browser or app. Changes may remain only in local cache, and Microsoft says they can be lost if that cache is overwritten or emptied. An older version that opens after a reset may therefore be the newest recoverable copy; do not keep clearing storage while hoping a later version will appear.
Recovery order for missing edits
- Reconnect to the account and verify that you are using the same sign-in identity that created the project.
- Open the project overview and look for the existing project rather than creating a new project with the same name.
- Check whether the project’s source files are still in their original locations or in the protected backup folder.
- If the project remains older or incomplete, stop changing cache and site data. Contact Clipchamp support with the project name, account type, time of the failure and the complete error code.
For future sessions, keep the connection active until changes have synchronized, and do not empty browser storage while a project still contains unsaved local work.
How do I fix a Clipchamp export that freezes or fails?
Export failures require a different sequence from loading failures. Keep the editor in the foreground, reduce competing workloads and then isolate the media or project section that causes the failure.
- Close other tabs and applications, keep Clipchamp in the foreground and retry the export in a normal browser window.
- Clear the browser cache and restart the browser if the first retry fails. Preserve originals before clearing data as described above.
- Watch whether the export fails at the same point each time. A repeatable stopping point often indicates a particular clip, image, audio file or effect near that position.
- Make a copy of the project. In the copy, remove or replace media near the failure point and export again. Keep the original project untouched for comparison.
- Convert a large or unusual source file to MP4, then replace the copy in the test project. Keep the original file as your archive.
- For a long project, split it into shorter sections and export each section. Assemble the successful sections in a new project only after the individual exports work.
- If a failure occurs near the end, verify free disk space and try a lower output size such as 720p or 1080p.
- Update the browser, the Clipchamp app if you use it, Windows and the graphics driver, then retry the copied project.
Do not delete the source clip merely because replacing it makes an export succeed. The replacement identifies a likely trigger; retaining the original lets you test conversion or a different copy later.
How do I recover a project during OneDrive migration?
OneDrive-backed Clipchamp projects can fail because the storage entitlement is inactive or the migration setup did not complete. The remedy depends on whether the account is personal or managed by work or school.

Personal OneDrive
- Sign in to OneDrive with the account associated with the Clipchamp project. An inactive entitlement may need to be reactivated before the project can be opened.
- Reload Clipchamp after signing in and retry the project.
- If migration still fails, open Settings → OneDrive in Clipchamp and choose Retry setup or Choose folder.
- If necessary, download the project locally and upload it to OneDrive manually, keeping the original media and the downloaded project together.
Work or school OneDrive or SharePoint
Keep the project’s SharePoint or OneDrive Assets folder intact and use the same organizational account that owns it. Access can fail when the account, folder location or permissions change; an administrator may need to restore access before Clipchamp can load the project.
What computer and browser conditions does Clipchamp need?
Performance guidance is a support threshold, not a guarantee that every project will work. Microsoft lists at least 8 GB of RAM on a 64-bit system, with 16 GB or more preferred. Large media, many browser tabs, graphics processing and limited disk space can still cause loading or export problems on a machine that meets that minimum.
- Use a current, supported browser or the current Clipchamp Windows app.
- Leave sufficient internal disk space for temporary files and the final export.
- Close memory-heavy programs while editing or exporting.
- Keep the graphics driver and operating system updated.
- Use a stable connection for projects that synchronize with an account or OneDrive.
If the editor works with a short test project but not the damaged project, the project media, length or a specific asset is more likely to be involved than a global Windows failure.

What should I avoid while trying to restore the video?
- Do not apply a fix to a different hexadecimal suffix just because both codes begin with
0x800700. - Do not delete or move source media before making a backup; the project may depend on those exact paths.
- Do not clear site data before confirming that originals or Content Backup are available.
- Do not keep working in a private window when testing recovery or export.
- Do not overwrite the only copy of a project while testing a replacement clip or converted file.
- Do not treat the 8 GB RAM figure as a performance guarantee; it is Microsoft support guidance, while project size and media complexity vary.
How can I prevent another 0x800700 recovery incident?
Keep a separate archive of source media and periodically export completed sections rather than relying on one long, unsaved timeline. Leave enough disk space for temporary processing files, keep the browser and graphics driver current, and maintain the same account and OneDrive folder for a project throughout its life.
When a failure first appears, capture the complete code and context before restarting repeatedly. That record tells support whether the problem occurred during loading, synchronization, media processing or export, and it prevents a generic prefix from sending you down the wrong repair path.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I recover a Clipchamp project if I no longer have the original media?
Recovery is limited when the project references files that were deleted or moved and no backup or Content Backup copy exists. A project file can preserve the edit structure without containing every source video, audio track or image, so restoring those inputs is usually necessary for a clean reopen or export.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Does reinstalling Clipchamp restore an older project version?
Reinstallation is not a version-history feature. It can change local app data without recreating edits that existed only in an emptied cache, so capture the account, project name and complete error first and use support when an older version is the only one visible.
Why does the same project open on one computer but not another?
The computers can differ in browser extensions, available RAM, disk space, graphics drivers or access to the account’s OneDrive or SharePoint files. Compare those conditions before changing the project itself, and test a copied project so the working copy remains intact.
Can I keep editing while an export is failing?
Use a duplicate of the project for experiments such as removing a suspect clip or splitting the timeline. Keeping the original untouched preserves the last known arrangement and makes it easier to identify which change allowed the test export to complete.
What information should I send Clipchamp support?
Include the full hexadecimal code, exact message, account type, project name, failure stage, browser or app used, whether OneDrive or SharePoint is involved and the steps that already succeeded or failed. This is more actionable than reporting only the shortened 0x800700 prefix.
